There is a silver lining to the cloud of conservative midterm losses. Pro-life people will be less tempted to believe that returning to a political party of elected representatives can save us from systemic injustices like abortion. Social change has always come through the people’s insistence that government protect all people equally, without qualification. It is no different today when it comes to protecting both the born and the preborn equally. But the passion needed to rehumanize society will require a return to God who made us in His image and who alone is the source of human dignity.

While it is true that CompassCare and other pro-life organizations and people are being denied equal justice under the law and freedom of speech, we should not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among us. Jesus did say we would be persecuted and delivered up to the courts and governments. This battle is not about us. This is about the ability of pro-life Christians to continue being publicly Christian, loving one’s neighbor by protecting the weakest and most vulnerable of society.

This is the most important cultural moment in 150 years and abortion is the flashpoint.

Abortion is the flashpoint because it gets at the heart of the national divide about what is means to be human. We believe that all people are made in the image of God and deserving of blessing and protection, from the womb to the tomb, without partiality. This belief is the only basis for human dignity, equality, and liberty.

Perhaps because once that belief seeps into the hearts and minds of the citizens, dehumanizing other classes of persons including preborn boys and girls will become impossible. What pro-abortion politicians seem to understand all too well is that abortion means sacrificing your neighbor for yourself. And sacrificing others for one’s own interests is absolute power.

On August 23, Yelp published a notice explaining a new consumer warning placed on all pro-life pregnancy centers. After pressure from federal legislators and NY Attorney General Letitia James, Google followed suit. In addition, around September 2nd, Google deployed a two-pronged approach, removing pro-life pregnancy groups from Google maps while elevating abortion giant Planned Parenthood to the first result in all unplanned pregnancy-related organic search results. Google’s move brazenly gives millions of dollars in free advertising to Planned Parenthood’s abortion business while eliminating their only competitors, pro-life pregnancy centers.

On Tuesday, June 7 at 2:30am, cowardly pro-abortion terrorists broke the windows and firebombed CompassCare’s Buffalo medical office. The group calling themselves Jane’s Revenge claimed responsibility, vowing further and more severe violence if we do not stop serving women. But Christians are called to fear God alone and serve people sacrificially. So, while the building was severely damaged, CompassCare continued serving patients that same day (see story here), and was back up and running in an alternate location the very next day. Beyond that, the rebuilding of the medical office began immediately with an aggressive Nehemiah-like goal to reopen services at the firebombed location 52 days later on July 29.
