    In today's episode, Jason talks with Claudia Pineda Tibbs and Jonny González of Latino Outdoors. Claudia is a member of the Advisory Board who works at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California leading sustainability efforts and helping make ocean conservation more culturally relevant and inclusive. Jonny serves as a volunteer for the Latino Outdoors chapter in Salt Lake City and shares his passion for entomology, herpetology, and outdoor recreation with others through his work at a natural history museum. Claudia and Jonny speak to the need for diversity and inclusion in conservation, how we can increase participation in outdoor recreation, and how the hunting community can make the outdoors a more welcoming space.

  • Ep 74: Urban Conservation and GPS Tracking Research

    In today's episode, Jason talks with Spatial Researcher, Michel Kohl. Michel is an Assistant Professor of Wildlife Management & Wildlife Extension Specialist for the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at UGA. After receiving his B.S. and M.S in Wildlife Biology from the University of Montana, he examined the behavioral response of elk to wolf and cougar predation in Yellowstone as part of his Ph. D. in Ecology at Utah State.

    Jason and Michel talk about his research which includes urban wildlife in the Atlanta metro area, GPS tracking of wildlife, and a new study that focuses on GPS tracking of black bears, hounds, and people during hound-black bear hunting season in northern Georgia.

D in Environmental Studies, and has a background in environmental research, social, and biological management. Jason and Paul discuss the differences and similarities of Wildlife Welfare and Animal Rights. Topics also discussed include hunting ethics, marketing campaigns and messaging, how differing goals in conservation can find common ground, and how hunters should listen to their internal thoughts.

    This is a deep dive into the complexities of conservation, hunting, and animal rights. It can be a divisive and controversial topic, but it is one that isn't all black and white.

He is passionate about wildlife conservation, climate change, forests, animal behavior, and indigenous people and many other topics. Jeremy lets us in on some of the big challenges facing conservation on an international level, why less charismatic animals are at a greater concern, and what it's like traveling to cover these stories.

  • Ep 70: Working with the Mile High Youth Corps

    In today's episode, Jason talks with Hailey Tresch. After running the traditional route of college and starting a career in marketing and communication, Hailey decided to take a leap into a new field: conservation. To get her start in the conservation industry, she joined the Mile High Youth Corps. The MHYC is a continuation of the original CCC developed in the 1930's that works to help youth make a difference in themselves and their community through meaningful service opportunities and educational experiences. Hailey fills us in on her daily tasks which included elimination of invasive species and implementation of fire mitigation strategies.
