Contagion Effect

Bryan Roof, a Marine Corp Veteran joined us this week and we had the pleasure to hear about his journey in the Marines.  He joined shortly before the 9/11 attacks and shared how things changed drastically after.  We learned about his time in Basic Training to his time in Iraq.  Bryan told us about his PTSD and injuries from  the service didn't show themselves till a little later in life.  He became 100% disabled in VA terms and unable to work.  Bryan wanted to tell his stories and hold on to them so that his kids could hear them.  Hence where Every Day's a Saturday came from.  This is his YouTube Show where he talks to other veterans about what they have gone through.

Check out his show here:  @Everydaysasaturday365

Thank you for joining us Bryan and thank you for your service.

Wow, the stories...

We had the pleasure of having Thomas (Tom) Lee join us. Tom is an Air Force Veteran who lives in our local area Modesto/Turlock, Ca.  Tom was an MP and dog handler in the Air Force.  He shared some stories when he was deployed out of country, and some while in country.  We don't want to give his stories away, he tells them the best.  We will say, learning how things work with the military dogs was pretty cool!  After leaving the military and bouncing around a bit, Tom started Dog Training as a side hustle.  Well, he did such a great job it has turned in to a booming business ran by he and his wife Gigi.  A+. Dog Training came to life.   They are often so busy, they have a waiting list.  Tom also spoke to giving back to the Military Working Dog Team Support Association.  This group rises funds to send supplies to both military dogs and their handlers.  Tom gives back a portion of all his training fees.

Scott Fredenburg a Retired US Army and Reserve veteran shared his road to the military and his deployments to Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan.  During his time in the reserves, he worked in the Department of Corrections and also as a Personal Trainer.  We were able to hear why Scott started Ruck-It up 4Warriors a 501(c)(3) that works to fight Veteran suicide.  They have planned events like Ruck marches to Comedy Shows to raise money.  They will also be part of Herostock 2023 in September of this year, where they will completing a Ruck march that ends at the Herostock event.

Had a great time talking with Britton and Pat from Blue Line.

We started by learning about Britton and his time in the US Army, and why he decided to join. Shared that he went in wanting to be an MP and did exactly that.  Shared some pictures and stories of his time out of country.  When he decided to leave the military he did take about a year and a half off to "party" before using his GI bill to go in to the Police Academy.  From there he joined one of our local Police Departments and has now moved on to a Private Sector Job.

As for Pat, while he is not a veteran he is a retired Fire Fighter and Law Enforcement.  Pat shared his becoming a Fire Fighter and travels all over the country and through places like Nashville.  He spoke to us about driving the Tour Bus for a music artist out there.  (you have to listen to know who).

We moved on to their group Blue Line who plays all over Northern California, but spends most of their time here in the Central Valley of California.  We were able to learn how the group got started on accident.  Bunch of Law Enforcement guys all talking to each other and learning who played what instrument and deciding to get together one night and play.  May not have been the best songs to suit them at that point, but they decided they wanted to see where this could go.  So they played for one of their fellow LEO's Birthdays and it was a hit.  Two buses, a bad ass name and logo, and 9 years later they are still having fun performing for crowds.  They are a cover band who just wants the audience to have the best time ever.  Go check them out!

In this Episode we enjoyed speaking to Donald Dunn, one half of the Two Drunk Dudes in a Gun Room Podcast.  Donald is a US ARMY Veteran who served 20 years.  He shared about his time in the military and the transition back to civilian life.  Donald also shared that the transition wasn't necessarily easy, and there were some struggles. We learned more how the Two Drunk Dudes in a Gun Room Podcast got started and why they do the show.  You will have to watch/listen to get more on this.

Thank you Donald for your service and for joining us and sharing your story.

We had the honor of having Retired Marine Corp Veteran Tom Ettinger on the show again.  This time Tom is sharing some great things he has going on since we have seen him last.  He is getting ready to launch the SitRep 22 clothing line.  Which should be coming in a week or so.  He also shared he has launched a Podcast called Every Second Counts.  Tom will also be speaking with veterans and really focusing a lot on Mental Health and suicide prevention.  The clothing line is to help fund a technology that Tom is the brainchild for to fight the war on veteran suicide.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Jason Steiner a Marine Corp Veteran and Jesse Cunningham an Army Veteran.  We had the opportunity to learn about Jason and Jesse and their military careers and what led them to this point.  This point being Vetstock 2023.  Vetstock 2023 was the brainchild of Jason looking for a way to have a fun night for Veterans to get together and also have other veteran organizations there so they know the support that is out there for them.  planning the inaugural event worked with Jesse to help get it off the ground.  They are currently in the planning for this years event on September 9th, 2023.  Listen to hear more on what is coming.
Jesse also shared the story of the non profit he works for Wheels 4 Warriors and there are some great stories here.

We will plan on having the whole group helping to make this happen, closer to the event and look forward to that.

Join us as we speak to Taylor Ullom Director of Development with Guitars for Vets.  What an amazing story teller, and energy!  Taylor shared her early life as a Marine Corp brat traveling the world and her time in Okinawa as a teenager.  Where she first learned her love for the guitar.  We moved on to her time in the Air Force and some amazing stories that you have to watch/listen to hear.  Some pretty cool things she was part of during her time in the Air Force.  Wrapped it up with how she joined Guitars for Vets and what they do for veterans.  An amazing group of people giving their time and efforts to help our veterans.  They always need more chapters, so listen to that part on how you can be involved.  Visit their site below for more info.

We are excited to have Sheri Smith President and Founder, Navy Veteran of Warriors and Rodeo.  Sheri shared her journey in the Navy a bit for us, along with her husband who she met in the Navy.  How she became a sports agent for Rodeo Athletes and after awhile, learned that she had a calling to take her business a little bit different direction.  By working with Veterans and First Responders in the rodeo world, it felt right, so Warriors and Rodeo was born.  Sheri was able to share about some of the mazing events and teams involved in WAR.  To hear more about it, watch the show,

Sound Disclaimer, we made some changes to our studio and there was an issue with our sound, which was not visible from our side.  We will be working on resolving this and getting back to normal.  Luckily, Sheri came through loud and clear.
