In this episode, Ron and I examine the arguments for a late date (AD 90s) for Revelation and articulate why this is built upon weak evidence and also conflicts with the internal evidence of the book.
Apocalyptic talk is all the rage today, even more than it normally is.
"Who could be the antichrist?"
"Is World War III around the corner?"
The mainstream of American Christianity is apocalyptic. That has been true our entire lifetimes. It remains true today, though things seem to be changing.
As people question the End Times obsessiveness, and historical alternatives begin to have purchase, the question always comes up, "what about the Book of Revelation? What is that about?"
Ron Dodson and I have begun to explore this book and plan to do so over the next several months.
In the first episode we start to set the groundwork of what this book is, how biblical exegesis has continued to develop over time, and how in order to approach this book you have to have an extremely well-developed understanding of the entire Bible before you can begin to make sense of anything in it.
Earlier this month CJay wrote a long post on the topic of race, ethnicity, and American identity.

Cheers.
Every so often, something pops off in online discourse that lays bare faultlines that were already always there.
This week was dominated by discussion of a young man with an online branding business who announced to the world that his wife had been a former online performer, and after her conversion, she is now "more pure than most virgins."
AD and I will discuss this phenomenon and what is actually going on here.
We will also talk about the horrific Noelia Castillo Ramos case.
A conversation with C.Jay Engel and Glenn Arbery on the Southern critics, what they opposed, what they defended, and how their arguments challenge the modern American order.
This episode looks at how the rise of the United States helped unravel the Westphalian system built after the Peace of Westphalia. While the system began to weaken after World War I and World War II, it was the U.S. that reshaped it.
