Controlled Interests Gamecast

On this week's podcast the guys are down one, but that gave Jerrad and Jordan plenty of time to wax poetic about Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and Pokemon Sword & Shield. They talk about everything they loved and mention the things that frustrated them from time to time. In the news sections of the podcast they discuss the leaked DualShock 5 controller for the PlayStation 5 as well as an announcement of a new studio from former Arkane Studios staff.

This week Xbox unleashed a bevy of reveals, updates, and announcements at their annual XO19 event, taking place this year in London. The crew discusses Rare unveiling their new IP, Phil Spencer talking Project xCloud, and much more. Also, Jerrad gives his thoughts after completing the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign and Dom talks about The Outer Worlds.

As the year hits November, Dom shares his ongoing experience with The Outer Worlds and praises it for what it does in a post-Fallout 76 landscape. In news the panel talks about the rumors floating around that Microsoft may acquire Yooka-Laylee developer Playtonic Games and they also cover the new hires at Microsoft's new AAAA studio, The Initiative. They end the show by discussing the announcement that the new Head of PlayStation's Worldwide Studios is Hermen Hulst, former head of Guerilla Games.

The next generation of gaming consoles are on the horizon and it seems publishers are trying to put their best foot forward when it comes to planning for it. The guys talk about EA's recent investor meeting where they broke down their plans for 2020 and beyond in terms of their AAA franchises. PlayStation 4 also recently became the 2nd best-selling console of all-time, so congratulations were in order. Also, with more time under their belts Dom and Jerrad give more details about their opinions on The Outer Worlds.

On this week's show Jerrad begins by breaking down his impressions on 3 new game releases. He starts by discussing how Yooka-Laylee: And The Impossible Lair mixes the best of Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie. Next, The Outer Worlds is mentioned and he goes into detail about what makes it similar and different to the beloved Fallout franchise. He closes out by giving his thoughts on his brief time with both the single-player and online matchmaking in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In news the guys discuss the delay of The Last of Us Part 2 and several AAA 2020 Ubisoft titles.

Jerrad dives into one of his most anticipated games of 2019, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and goes over his impressions with the game after numerous hours with it. He gives his pros and cons and explains why it may be his biggest video game disappointment yet. Jordan and Dom also give their opinions on the new Joker film. In news the guys cover the weird PlayStation 5 info dump and the unfortunate news regarding Doom: Eternal.

Seemingly out of nowhere PlayStation announced that Shawn Layden, Head of Worldwide Studios, would be leaving the company. With PlayStation 5 set to launch in under a year fans are left wondering why this move is happening now with no news of his replacement. On top of this shocking departure there are rumors circling that Sony Interactive Entertainment's current business restructuring is causing communication issues for developers in regards to the PS5. The guys discuss what this means for PlayStation and much more.

Jerrad and Dom begin the show by discussing their time with the Link's Awakening Remake on Nintendo Switch. Afterwards Jerrad briefly talks about MTG: Arena and Jordan gives some more Borderlands 3 impressions. PlayStation's State of Play for 9/24 wasn't too surprising in terms of announcements, but The Last of Us Part 2 trailer provided a release date and a shocking reveal the guys debate being included in the trailer.

As Dom is out on vacation, Jordan regales Jerrad with his early impressions of Borderlands 3. He talks about how it's a refined Borderlands experience in the best and worst of ways. In news they talk about Link's Awakening reviews, PlayStation's State of Play for September 24th, and a new Terminator game. They close by going over the new details surrounding Apex Legends Season 3: Meltdown and the game's newest legend, Crypto.

This week Jerrad tells the guys about his experiences with NBA 2K20 and why the community is upset with the state of the game. Dom shares his early impressions of Gears 5 and why he thinks it takes what he enjoyed about the previous entry and improves in every way. The guys end the show by discussing the NPD numbers for August 2019 and have a debate about PlayStation's "cross/x" button and where they stand on the matter.
