One difference between science and religion is that science takes nothing on faith; science, we are taught, is the open-ended, self-critical pursuit of truth.  Meanwhile, religion relies upon revelation and faith to find truths that cannot be questioned because God delivered them.  Science questions; religion relies upon unquestionable answers.  But a few writers are now directing the turrets of critical examination against the theories of science, and finding that modern science, in too many ways, resembles not an enterprise devoted to finding truth, but a belief system.  In his best-selling book, Cosmosapiens: Human Evolution from the Origin of the Universe, this week’s guest, John Hands, sets out on an old-age quest to answer the big questions: who are we? and why are we here?  Along the way he discovers, through a rigorous and peer-reviewed analysis, that orthodox science has lost its way and can no longer be relied upon to deliver the unadulterated truth.  This is one of my best shows and I thank John Hands for not only writing the book, but for having what I hope the listener will find to be a mind-opening conversation.
