Chapter 15 of 1st Corinthians is a text book in itself; covering the promised Gospel message to mankind – from the beginning to the culmination of the end of the Age, the revealing of the Kingdom of God – the New Heavens and Earth – the New Jerusalem – the never-ending kingdom. All this we can know, as faith readies our hearts and minds for the Truth.

The Apostles give specific instruction to the assembly in Corinth regarding the use of the spiritual gifts of tongues and prophesy. The Corinthian church needed direction on these topics and many churches today fail to understand or practice the teaching.

1. In the law (Hebrew Scripture) it hath been written:

Was the “Spiritual Gifts teaching in 1 Cor 13 inserted so that preachers and ministers are able to quote bible verses for weddings, funerals and other social gatherings as some believe? Or is the intended purpose to show that love (agape) is the source of spiritual gifts and without agape-love the possessor of these gifts are useless in their own wellbeing?

Paul teaches of these Spiritual Gifts in the Assembly with analogies that give us word pictures so we may understand and not lack in knowledge.

1. Illustration of healthy body-As it functions as One Body – 1 Cor 12:14-27

A. God has set “the members” as he pleases in perfect order Verse -25

2 Again God’s order His purpose - 1 Cor 12: 28-31, Eph 4:11 (same?)

A. Desire “earnestly” the better gifts – to edify the brethren.

We must consider these Spiritual Gifts in the Assembly, they came from Heaven and may be removed by the same authority they came from. Not our will but His!

1. An analogy –the Assembly is One Body with many members – 1 Cor 12:12-13

A. God has set the members as he pleases!
