For many teenagers, just mentioning “spiritual habits” makes them fall asleep. But the truth is, certain practices are a must when it comes to growing an authentic faith. And when we make them a part of our lives, it becomes less about what we’re doing and more about the faith we’re growing. In this series, we want students to know that the best thing for their faith is to make investments by regularly doing a few tangible things.

One of the hardest things to face in life is to forgive someone who has wronged or hurt you deeply. Whether it’s a parent, close friend, sibling, coach, teacher, or anyone at all, when someone hurts you, it can be hard to let it go and move on. In fact, it can feel sweet to stay bitter. But when we don’t forgive, it actually ends up hurting us even more. Forgiveness reminds us of God’s love and mercy for us. We’re not perfect in any way, and even though forgiveness can take time for us to extend to others, God has forgiven us completely for all of our sins. When we know God and experience true forgiveness ourselves, we’re more willing to forgive others.

We can all agree that the topic of authority can be challenging for high schoolers. They are coming into a new awareness and desire for autonomy, but they still live in the reality of having to follow the rules of several authority figures in their lives. In fact, in this season as they desire more and more autonomy they may be learning the reality that there will always be an authority to submit to. This can be even trickier for students who are following Jesus. Because as followers of Jesus, we’re supposed to submit to God’s authority and follow Jesus’ example of responding to authority. In this series, worship can be a powerful tool to remind students that they can trust God, both with their lives and the people in authority over them. As you prepare to lead students this week, spend time reflecting on what it looks like to trust God more and more to be in charge of your life, and pray that your students would encounter a God who they want to trust and follow.

Whether they’re fighting about politics, arguing about sports, debating over homework, having it out over friendship drama, or just dealing with daily family feuds, your students are constantly finding themselves in the position to argue. And, between cable news, social media battles and Infowars, our culture has nearly made arguing a sport or a pastime. More than ever, as students watch arguments play out around them, the message seems to be “win at all costs.” That’s why this week we’re diving into the question, “How do I win an argument?” As we do, we’ll discover that because Jesus is at the center of our relationships, there is a better way to disagree, a different way to approach conflict that will leave your students winning more than just arguments. They’ll be winners with relationships instead.

People talk about “loving God” all the time, but there’s one problem that nobody seems to mention: you can’t see Him. Weird, right? How do you connect to someone who never seems to audibly respond? In this series, we’ll be talking about the faith habits that make it possible to connect with an invisible God. And while there’s no formula for knowing everything about God, there are key habits that will change the way we see Him at work all around you.
