Floor 9 and we're oh so fine! Cheesy, I know! This week I'm talking about my experience in negotiating and talking money in the workplace. How can we break that glass ceiling if we don't even bring an icepick? You can't be young, black, and getting "It", if you don't at least ask for "it".

To be young, Black, and gettin it. That’s the dream isn’t it? So why is it so odd when your the first in your crew to make some real change? Why do we play coy about gettin this paper? On the 8th floor I get into money and down playing success.

To be twentysomething in Corporate America. What a time. You're there to provide fresh new perspectives and ridiculed for your lack of Sally Jessy Raphael trivia. I guess its just a coming of age process but it can "grind your gears"

"You catch more flies with sugar than with vinegar". Well, I don't know about you but I'm not in the business of catching flies. I'm here to make money. Massaging egos and placating people at work is not my strong suit and I don't love having to deal. This week I discuss the veiled approach to the angry black woman trope and the tiring part of wanting to get shit done as a black woman with authority in corporate America. 

Do you have co-workers who like to connect with you on a personal level by coming to you as a self-proclaimed "ally"? This floor is all about "allies" who play the victim when the time suits them and can't see the stereotypes that they influence in the workplace. As the good sis Amanda Seales puts it "There are White people and people who happen to be white". 

Welcome to The Fourth Floor. This week we're still managing with the burden of being black during a crisis. As the Protest, riots, and looting occur in this nation black women in the workplace are burdened with two extremes: Pretending nothing is happening and mouth-piece for the black plight. 

Tired is an understatement. Carrying the weight of your race into the office place and being the representative on all things black is tiring. And after this past week, I'm beyond tired. And on the third floor, I'm just venting about it.

In the almighty words of Solange, "Don't Touch My Hair." And by golly you sure as hell shouldn't touch mine. I'm talking hair in the workplace this week and the anxiety black women have with a new do.
