Good evening my fellow creepsters! On todays episode, Bryan Jason & I will be investigating, as the title suggests, the mysterious death of the Master of Macabre! Edgar Allen Poe! Most people recognize Poe by his famous poem, "The Raven". Others may have read one of his more popular dark and creepy tales like, "The Fall of the House of Usher" or "The Tell-tale Heart". Poe wrote quite a few gothic stories about murder, revenge, torture, the plague, being buried alive, and insanity. Many modern books and movies have "borrowed" ideas from Poe. Some of Poe's stories were not well accepted in his day because people were just not ready for them- they were too scary. The mystery surrounding Poe's death has led to many myths and urban legends. The reality is that no one knows for sure what happened during the last few days of his life. Did Poe die from alcoholism? Was he mugged? Did he have rabies? A more detailed exploration of Poe's death will be discussed in todays episode! The full version of this episode can be enjoyed on the Cosmic Peach Patreon! Do you know what a Shinigami is? Neither did I, until I was persuaded to watch the anime, Death Note. Shinigami are the death gods of Japanese folklore. My interest piqued while watching Death Note and I decided to put together a fun Japanese folklore episode! Recently I’ve been working on watching a few anime series and decoding the messages within them. Anime does a great job revealing a little bit of truth in a creative & mystical way. I’m currently watching Attack on Titan (listener request) and man are there some clues about the giants and bloodlines in there!! (But I’m not ready to reveal my findings on this one just yet)! But the anime I will spending some time on today is Death Note. There are a lot of inverted characters and ideals in this anime. The symbolism of the red apple 🍎 (much like in the Witcher) is very prominent in Death Note. Harkening back to the knowledge of good and evil, the first sin, and the corruption of innocence. Today we will be talking about all that and more! The full version of the episode can be enjoyed on Patreon, and you can sign up by clicking the link below.
