Tasha moved to the Goldfields from South Australia seven years ago, when her husband got a job in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
  
Initially, she worked in a quasi legal role, which she found isolating. However, after  moving to a Kalgoorlie-Boulder law firm, as a solicitor, life got better. 

Two years later, in 2022, Tasha took over the firm.

Tasha says regional practice offers an opportunity to build strong relationships with clients and to undertake a broad scope of work at an earlier stage of your career. 

Tasha hasn't been able to shake her support for her South Australian football team but she has taken up the local Kalgoorlie-Boulder hobby of prospecting...

David Markovich commutes from Perth to the South West each week and intends to move there in coming years.

For now, he engages with the local community as a board member of the Busselton Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and with a local community bank.

David says it's hard to recruit lawyers to the regions and, while there are obvious benefits to city life, working out of the big smoke has benefits - including the strong connections between local lawyers. 
 
 As a regional commuter, David regularly encounters one of the great driving hazards of Australia - kangaroos!

Sharna is a restricted practitioner based in Margaret River, where she enjoys an idyllic - if sometimes chaotic - lifestyle, as a working mother of twins.

Sharna studied her law degree online, while working with WA Police and in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where she gained valuable experience in procedures and processes.

Sharna loves the laidback lifestyle of the South West and has found a perfect work/life balance, while ensuring she remains connected to her city colleagues through CPD events and social media.

Yolanda moved to the Kimberley from Perth with no expectations but plenty of hope!

It took her a few months to find her feet but Yolanda loves her role as a Legal Aid WA lawyer in Kununurra - every few months she realises she's more settled than ever. 

Yolanda is learning about the local people and their personal stories. She enjoys taking part in the annual Argyle Swim and has even bought a boat!
 
And, yes, there are a few crocs around...

Michael is the Chair of the Law Society's Country Practitioners' Committee which represents, engages, supports and advocates for all members of the profession in rural, regional and remote areas.

Michael says it is essential that country practitioners reach out if they're feeling isolated or need assistance - the importance of good networks can't be over-emphasised, he says.

Integration within the community - be it via sport or volunteering - is also a must, to ensure relationship building with people who care.

Before studying law, Michael was a police officer. You'll never guess what he did before that...

Georgia Herford has been  living in the Great Southern for just under two years and practices mainly in criminal law.

She is aided greatly by the incredible work of the Aboriginal Legal Service's local Court Officer - a position unique to the ALS in Western Australia and providing a vital trust-building conduit between the community and lawyers.

Georgia would like to see more services in the Great Southern, including residential rehabilitation programmes for people suffering from drug and alcohol issues, who currently have to travel out of the area for treatment. 

Georgia's decision to take a quick dip at Middleton Beach during a quiet court day led to an interesting encounter with a woman who needed a lift home...
