On this episode of Meanwhile, Chris, Kristina and Frank sit down to talk about animation and how it factors into the mosaic of fandom content. It gets nostalgic as we talk about our favourite animated series over the years. From X-Men, to Justice League, to Young Justice and many others. And we also explore the stigma around animation, where does it come from? and why does it apply to only western animation that isn't Pixar or Disney? It's weird right?

In the wake of the termination of Flash's Hartley Sawyer, we felt it necessary to get into the pod booth and finally have a real conversation about Cancel Culture. And if you listen to our show regularly, you know subjects like this have the potential to get a little animated. So, even before hitting record, this already had the potential to be a great episode! Join Kristina, Saba, and Frank as they discuss the termination of Hartley Sawyer, JK Rowling's latest alienation of her faithful readers, and the societal trend of Cancel Culture and it's impact on our social-political discourse, and most importantly.....our favourite fandoms. Don't miss this one! It's going to be one to remember. If you did a Google search for comic book movies that were never made. You would be blown away by not only the sheer number, but also by the fan favourite franchises, and characters that almost made it the silver screen. One of these never to be films, that really peaked our curiosity was a 1997 Daredevil film that was to be produced by Hollywood legend, Chris Columbus. Now this project never went beyond the brainstorm stage, however there was a treatment written by a well respected comic book scribe, Jean Marc Dematteis, who's name you should recognize from possibly one of the greatest Spiderman stories of all time, Kraven's Last Hunt. Columbus tasked Dematteis with writing the treatment, but sadly the project never made it past those pages. Luckily though, the treatment found its way online, and I have to say, we had great time reading it! It's a page turner! So come join us as we breakdown the 1997 film treatment by JM Dematteis "The Man Without Fear" act, by act.

Ok guys, well we meant to get this episode to you guys ages ago! The plan was to actually upload the night of Star Wars Day, but we had some tech difficulties, (where is an R2 unit when you need one?) and almost lost what was probably one of our funnest episodes to date. And just a small note. The sound quality isn't our best, but we had to share this with you guys. Come listen to four Star War fans shoot the shit, and reflect on all the things we love about the Galaxy, a long long time ago, far far away. You don't want to miss this.

Last week the foundations of fandom were shook with the history making announcement that in 2021, Zack Snyder's Justice League, after more than two years of billboards, planes, charitable initiatives, and millions of #releasethesnydercut hashtags, would FINALLY be released on HBOMAX. Well, like the fans, most of the Meanwhile crew was stoked to hear this amazing news! So, naturally we went into the pod booth to celebrate and discuss all the wonderful possibilities. But as much as we wanted to just bask in this announcement. We had questions that needed asking. What did this mean for the future of the DC film apparatus? Is Battfleck back? Is Ezra Miller still going to be the Flash?? And how much of the leaked SnyderCut plot will be in this HBOMAX release? Don't miss this one!--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meanwhile-pod/message

Buckle up and join us on a wild ride as we jump into our review of the DCAU film "Red Son", in which DC imagines a world where Superman landed in and was raised in Cold War Era Russia instead of the Land of the Free. How much of Superman's values are nature vs nurture? How would the U.S.S.R use their Red Son to their advantage? How would the course of history be impacted? Would the Red Son fall in love? We explore all this and more. Tune in to find out!

When this movie hit theatres 4 years ago, Co-host, Frank Maguire, was definitely among the many who couldn't get beyond the bus sized plot holes, lack of character development and what he thought at the time, was a fundamental failure to understand the true nature of these characters. But once Frank saw the EXTENDED cut of BvS: Dawn of Justice. He quickly became one of it's biggest champions, and now, he holds it dear as a true work of genius. Maybe you share his point of view, maybe you vehemently disagree. But I think the one thing we can all unequivocally agree on when it comes to this film. Is that it has this innate ability to spark conversation and debate when ever it comes up. In Part 1 of this Retrospective, Frank is joined by his friend Eran Dahan to take a look back at the EXTENDED cut of BvS. So join them as they examine what is probably the most debated and discussed DC Movie of all time. Is it an under appreciated masterpiece from a misunderstood genius? Or is it as bad as the naysayers say?

The Meanwhile crew finally jumps head first into the world of anime. Since this is the first venture into this colorful corner of fandom, we felt it was appropriate to discuss our early days of anime. The unforgettable classics, the long unstoppable mainstream juggernauts , the niche gems and the nostalgic gold mines. These are the anime that got us into anime and our recommendations for those who want to dip their toes into this rich pool of artistic storytelling.
