  • “Choices: Esther”
Do you ever wonder how the web of choices large and small can lead us to a momentous moment? Throughout the story of Esther, we see how a series of small but faithful decisions builds into the pathway forward for the Jewish people and ultimately God's plan for our salvation. Ester is a beautiful example of how to faithfully execute choices all along the way.

  • “From Fear for Faith”

  • “From Complacency for Contentment”
Does contentment equal complacency? No. In our modern culture, we use them interchangeably but Payton argues that complacency is results-focused, whereas contentment is your attitude in the journey. Furthermore, when we allow our contentment to be about goals, we put limitations on our own contentment. You'll say you'll be content when you reach that goal, but what happens? As soon as you make that goal, you move the goalpost. So how do we find contentment in a results-driven world?
Paul, in all circumstances, is constantly seeking out God's purpose for him. God has a purpose for us in each and every moment of our lives. It's not about results as a destination. It's about the journey—seeing in the moments, God's purpose. To find contentment, we must open our eyes to the joy and happiness that God has surrounded us with at each step in the journey.

  • "From Comparison for Confidence"
We are to be in the world but not of this world. That means understanding our role in this world as God's hands and feet but also transformed by the renewing of our minds. We have free will but sometimes we get so caught up in our freedom that we forget that God has a will for our lives. Our will is defined by pleasure—and often leads to temporary gratification. God's will, however, might require sacrifice. But, God is always working things out in our lives for our good. All too often we place our will above God's will. We think that our faith is something that we have done, attained, and achieved. But Faith is always a gift from God allowing us to no longer adopt our will as the determinate for our lives but depending on God's will as enough. Yielding to God's will with the understanding that it is good, perfect, and pleasing changes the entire framework of understanding for those who believe.
