  • Being Present As A Mom And A High-Achieving Direct Sales Leader

Welcome to Episode 98. Being Present As A Mom And A High Achieving Direct Sales Leader.

I am Tammy Meyer and I’m so grateful you’re here.

First things first, let’s talk about mom status.

Maybe you have grown kids. You may have young kiddos like me. My boys at the time of this recording, are 6 years old and 17 months.

You may have tweens, teens, or young adults that really really still need you just in different ways than they did when they were younger.

Maybe you’ve made the choice to not have kiddos.

And it’s not lost on me for one second, not for one breath,  that you may not be a mom and you may desperately want to be a mom. I have been there. Or maybe you are a mom but so badly want to grow your family.

Will you stay here with me please and keep listening?

And if you’re overcome with emotion right now I get that. I have also been there. Oh, have I been there. I just want to say you’re in a safe space here. And I hope you’ll stay with me and keep listening. I’ll explain why in a few seconds.

Either way, you can find the full transcript at crazybigdreams.biz/98.

Whatever your situation may be, I guarantee you have team members who are moms with kids ranging in all ages. And you even have team members that aren’t moms, have decided not to be moms, or desperately want to be moms. And this episode today will help you as their leader. I hope it will help you personally, as well.

This topic today came about from my last episode number 97. The 18-minute Power Hour For Savvy Direct Sales Leaders.

In episode 97 I talked about multi-tasking and life and work and kids and anxiety. If you haven’t listened yet you can find the episode at crazybigdreams.biz/97.

Today I want to take that conversation a bit further.

Many leaders work to help their emerging leaders do their business in the pockets of the day.

This can mean different things to different people. What one leader defines as a pocket of opportunity during her day and what another defines as a pocket of opportunity can look very different.

What I’ve found with all the savvy, successful, high-achieving women that I’ve worked with are two common threads.

One, anxiety is a thing. It’s totally a thing. It’s there. It’s common. It’s experienced by so so many. You may even navigate it yourself. I guarantee you have women and moms on your team who are navigating anxiety.

The second theme I’ve noticed is this. Working in the pockets of the day, especially for those with kids is creating scenarios of ineffective multitasking and it’s not helping those navigating anxiety.

    Is this everyone? Certainly not.

    Is it many? Yes.

As a savvy leader, you can be armed with great information and strategies to help your leaders this does apply to.

  • The 18-Minute Power Hour For Savvy Direct Sales Leaders

Hey  leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. We are here for episode 97. I am so excited!

Today is all about the 18-minute power hour you should be doing! Ha. Seriously. This is backed by science and research and you’ll find it in the Harvard Business Review.

Or you could keep listening here for my success strategy on this.

You can find the full transcript of this episode with all the clickable links at crazybigdreams.biz/97.

Do you feel like you’re a great multi-tasker? It’s a bit of a tricky question.

The thing is we don’t really multitask. We switch tasks. We don’t typically do multiple things at once. And if we’re trying to, we don’t typically do them very well.

For example, it can take on average 15 minutes to get back to an original task after being interrupted, like with an email.

Our efficiency can drop by up to 40%.

Our creativity suffers. Our long-term memory suffers.

Again, we don’t truly multi-task with any level of high performance. If you are talking on the phone while working on the computer you literally hear less of the conversation. Your brain is always choosing which information to process.

Do you tend to feel like you’re good at multitasking? I used to. At least before I had kids. Some people say “How do you do it?” when we’re in conversation about life and kids and work. I am quick to say. I don’t! I can’t.

Literally, my brain won’t allow me to do anything else when I’m with my kiddos. It really just produces a lot of anxiety for me when I try to do anything that requires what I call brainwork. When I need to use my brain and give something my full attention, I can’t do anything else. It’s just how I go about life and work while navigating anxiety.

I heard a saying recently that went something like “Parenting a child today is easy. Doing anything else while parenting is difficult.” Can you relate?!

I know some of you are thinking, I do my best multitasking when my kids are around. I have to. Or no one would have clean clothes and no one would eat. I know. I get that. I’m really talking about work. And it feels like there is a separate podcast episode here.

It’s no surprise that we’ve gotten conditioned in a world full of technology that makes us feel like we’re good at multitasking.

The watches that vibrate or chime to push the info from our phones directly to our wrists. This is not helping matters. The distraction alone! Right?! I know I’m distracted when someone else is prompted to look at their wrist while we’re in conversation.

So what’s a leader to do?

An 18-minute power hour. Do you feel like 60-minute power hours are just difficult? Do you have good intentions but can’t seem to push through for the whole hour?

Well, cut yourself some slack. Re-think these 60-minute power hours. Why 18 minutes?

Because our attention starts to fade after 18 minutes. Tadah! The 18-minute power hour. My success strategy for you is to break your power hour up into three twenty-minute sessions. You’ll have 2 to 5 minutes between sessions to refresh your coffee, go to the restroom, and step outside.

If your attention is going to start to fade in about 18 minutes anyway, schedule it so. Keep your focus on one thing for 18 minutes. Have a different task or topic for each 18-minute session.

  • Your Intrinsic Value As A Direct Sales Leader

Hey savvy leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. Welcome to episode 96! I’m so happy you’re here.

Today we’re talking about your internal value, the value you feel within yourself as a direct sales leader.

You can find the full transcript of this episode with all the clickable links at crazybigdreams.biz/96.

Look, there are so many measurable external variables in this business that leaders can often get lost in them. They can overshadow the internal values you have. This can lead to a whole host of challenges as a leader.

External measurable variables like your sales, your business volume, the size of your team, the number of new leaders you’ve helped reach rank, your social media stats and the list goes on.

These are all important. And with a daily, weekly, quarterly, and year-over-year focus on them, it’s easy to have them overshadow the internal values you have.

So let’s talk about this impact. The big gift in this is when internal values rise above the external variables, you have a sustainable focus for your confidence as a leader.

When your internal values are clear and in focus three things happen:

One: You’re less reliant on external circumstances for satisfaction. When business volume and sales fluctuate, and these can have some big swings, it can take us up and down along with it.

But clarity on your internal values helps you feel solid and stable in your leadership because these values are constant. They’re not changing like volume and sales are.

When you’re going about your work, the time you spend with your team and clients, you can feel satisfied and encouraged regardless of where those numbers are because your satisfaction comes from within, not solely on hitting numbers.

The second thing that happens when your internal values are clear and in focus that you’re less reliant on external circumstances for validation. This is a big one! Disconnecting your value and worth, deep down, from the results, the volume, and sales of your business, the followers is essential.

This external value attachment may not be visible to others, or your team, but deep down, it can be there for you.

When you’re internal values are front and center this value attachment to the external circumstances evaporates. It’s just not there. It’s an incredible feeling. To have internal validation as a leader is everything. In my professional opinion, it’s arguably the most important.

The third thing that happens when your internal values are clear and in focus is that you’re less reliant on external circumstances for fulfillment.

Yes, of course, there’s a good feeling, a celebration, and a boost when the external circumstances are big sales and record-breaking business volume. It’s important to celebrate these! And recognition is key!

However unwavering fulfillment in your leadership role comes from your internal values. So when the big sales aren’t so big and business volume is scary low, you still feel fulfilled! Yes, it’s possible.

These internal values are what sustain you. They keep your focus, perspective, and forward momentum. It’s what’s more important than the numbers. It’s what keeps you excited for what’s to come. Especially when those external circumstances are not in your favor.

For the rest of this message and my one powerful question for you on internal value go to crazybigdreams.biz/96.

  • Who Is Your Higher Self As A High-Achieving Direct Sales Leader?

Hey high-achieving leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. This is episode 95! I am so happy you’re here. Look, last week, in episode 94 we talked about the problem with all the personal development books out there.

I’ll give you a brief recap here but if you want to listen to that 7-minute episode you can find it at crazybigdreams.biz/94.

In episode 94 I shared that the big problem is time and time again in these books we’re asked to consider what our higher self would do.

The issue is, if we don’t yet know our higher self, we don’t know what our higher self would do, what she would think, how she would feel, what she would say.

You’re in the majority if you don’t yet know who your higher self is.

These books are great reads. Don’t get me wrong. My bookshelf is stacked. I fear there’s never going to be enough time to read all the great books out there. Do you feel the same?!

I also talked about, in episode 94, about the opposite of our higher self, our lower self.

This is when we have self-limiting beliefs. We might be feeling down and discouraged.

We have self-doubt. We’re critical of ourselves.

Maybe negative, even if just in our own thoughts.

Our ego gets in the way.

We’ve maybe become attached to the physical, the material things, and there’s maybe a strong hold on money or rank.

These are important. Don’t get me wrong. I’m simply pointing out that if you do want to know your higher self you’ll want to move beyond these.

You’ll need to identify what you need to let go of.

    What is it for you?

    Self-criticism. Self-limiting beliefs. Negativity?

To help you in a very personal way shift your mindset on all of this, the negativity, the self-criticism, and the self-limiting beliefs take a listen to episode 83 Powerful & Personalized Mantras. You can find it at crazybigdreams.biz/83.

By shifting your mindset you’ll become open to getting to know your higher self. You’ll be laying a solid foundation to work from to discover your higher self.

So what does that mean? What does that look like? Who is our higher self?

You can find the full transcript of this episode and all the clickable links at crazybigdreams.biz/95.

In my experience, most leaders kind-of, sort-of have an idea what “higher-self” is referring to and what they think it might mean.

If we’re going to continue on the personal development path it would benefit us greatly to know who our higher-self is and be able to connect.

First, it’s a journey to discover. It’s not an event.

Your higher self is best described as internal guidance, inner knowing, a wisdom.

It’s when you’re connected with the inner you. Deep down, when you’re still and quiet. It’s your very personal best self.

When you’re connected to your higher self you not only benefit but anyone who crosses your path also benefits.

    It’s transcending. It’s freedom. It’s like a free-floating indifference.

  • The Big Problem With All Those Personal Development Books For Direct Sales Leaders

Hey savvy leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. We are here for episode 94! Welcome.

You can find the full transcript of this episode and all the clickable links at crazybigdreams.biz/94.

Personal development is the common denominator when it comes to savvy direct sales leaders. It’s the one thing every successful leader has in common.

It’s virtually impossible to do this business, do it well, and not develop as an individual and business leader. It comes with the territory.

It’s part of the journey. And thankfully right?!

I haven’t worked with a leader yet who doesn’t have personal development at the top of her list of things she is grateful for as a result of her success.

So, we’re all lifelong learners. Personal development is in our blood. We can’t stop. Even if we tried.

We read all the books! Am I right? Whether it’s in a book club with our uplines, sidelines, downlines, or mastermind groups or maybe on our own. We read the books.

So, what’s the big problem with all the personal development books?

So many of these books ask readers to consider “What would your highest self do?”

“What would your highest self do?”

The problem is, if we don’t know our highest self, we don’t know what our highest self would do, what she would think, how she would feel, what she would say.

It’s difficult to fully implement and benefit from the teachings. To really apply what we’re reading. Sure it can be a good read. We can have great discussions. We can “get a lot out of it”.

But are we fully implementing the teachings and benefiting if we don’t know our highest self? Or is it just time spent with ‘a good read’?

    Who is your highest self?

In my experience, most leaders kind-of, sort-of have an idea what “higher-self” is referring to and what they think it might mean.

But truly. You are among the majority if you might be scratching your head on this a bit. If you can’t really articulate who your highest self is. You would be like most if not all.

If we’re to embrace and implement the teachings of these powerful lessons and books we need to know who our highest-self is. If we’re going to continue on the personal development path we need to know who our highest-self is.

If we’re going to know what our highest self would do or say or think or feel we first need to know who our highest self is.

And also what it’s not. Which is easier to start with, I believe.

The opposite of higher self is lower self.

Let me share what lower self is about.

It’s when we have self-limiting beliefs. We might be feeling down and discouraged. “I can’t do this!”

We have self-doubt. We’re critical of ourselves.

    There’s negativity.

Our ego is in the way.

    It’s dark.

We’ve maybe become attached to the physical, the material things, there’s maybe a monetary tie and the status of our rank.

Now, I’m not saying these things are bad. I can see how this would lead one to believe this is bad. Not at all.

We’re simply getting a handle on what higher-self and lower-self mean. And if we’re stuck on these things we have a difficult time, almost impossible, connecting with our highest self. They can’t co-exist.

  • The Leader You Want To Be For Your Direct Sales Team

Hey friends. It’s Tammy Meyer. Today is episode 93! All about the Direct Sales Leader you want to be.

You can find the full transcript of this episode and all the clickable links at crazybigdreams.biz/93.

You’ve likely already become leaps and bounds the leader you maybe never even thought you would become.

You’ve built an impressive organization. Worked super hard. Sacrificed. You didn’t quit. Right.

And yet you still have crazy big dreams and goals and things you still want to accomplish personally and professionally.

Today I want to get you thinking about the leader you want to be for your team.

The leader that embodies everything you want, and then some.

The leader that grows not just as an individual, but alongside her team as well.

The leader that can dig deep and find that drive again but for a new future.

Are you ready? Because you know I’m going to have some big-thinker questions for you. Crazy big dreamers get big questions and in turn, get to think big.

When you think about the leader that embodies everything you want, and then some, typically most women will think about the areas where they feel they fall short. I hear things like…

If I could just be more organized.

If I did more of the work I did when I first grew my business.

If I was more spontaneous and had more fun with my team.

If I were more serious and consistent for my team.

You get the idea. Those traits that kind of weigh on you. That pull your attention for a bit, but in fleeting moments when it doesn’t feel like you can do much about it at the time. Yet it keeps nagging at you. One day, one day you’ll tackle it once and for all.

What about the leader that grows not just as an individual, but alongside her team, as well? This is about having an awareness of the pulse of your organization and the culture that’s been created with and by the people who make up your team.

It’s a delicate balance, I believe, when you work independently for a company, have built a solid, successful organization that YOU lead, and you have volunteers, essentially.

They aren’t employees. They are also independent. Right. So it can be a delicate environment but one you still very much want to know about the culture and the pulse of your organization.

How do you do that? Simply ask. And listen. Put out a poll. Do a Google form. However you work best. Simply ask and listen. But the best way is to get a feel for how activity, choices, and ideas are generated over time. Simply pay attention to these things and notice.

So here are three big thinker questions. Questions you can ponder or use as journal entries or a topic for your next mastermind group or book club.

Yes, book club. If you haven’t yet listened to episode 22, take a listen for my strategy on the “No book-book club”. You can use these big thinker questions as topics to implement when you listen to episode 22.

Crazy Big Dreamer Question Number One: The leader you want to be, how would she be spending her time differently? In big and small ways?

Crazy Big Dreamer Question Number Two: This leader you want to be…

What 3 traits does she have?

Crazy Big Dreamer Question Number Three: What has she overcome to be the leader she wants to be?

  • What Dream Destination Will You Travel To Next?

Hi leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. Thanks for being here for episode 92.

You can find the full transcript of this episode and all the clickable links at crazybigdreams.biz/92.

I just got back from a week of vacation! Ah! It’s so great to unplug. To get a change of scenery. To have a slower pace and just enjoy my family. And let’s be real, not do any laundry!

If I’m not traveling I’m not living. I love to travel!

We are blessed beyond measure to live in Hawaii. It is a magical place. Really. My happy place is the beach, without question.

Living in Hawaii is amazing. It is. But it’s not like we’re on vacation every day. It’s still real life.

We still have school and work and obligations and groceries and laundry and the rhythm of the days and nights that are real life.

Living in Hawaii isn’t a vacation every day is what I guess I’m trying to say.

We just get to do life in a place that has breathtaking beauty everywhere filled with the spirit of aloha.

So, we live in Hawaii and we recently traveled to one of the other islands for vacation.

It was much needed and a really fun time. We spent time on the beach making sand castles. We had lots of pool time, ate at fun restaurants, we had shave ice, read stories, saw waterfalls, explored a cave, drank coconut water from coconuts, and simply enjoyed each other.

If I’m not traveling I’m not living. I love experiencing new and different places.

I caught myself so many times thinking about the women I’ve worked with who also love travel.

High-Achieving Direct Sales Women Love To Travel!

When I talk to high-achieving direct sales leaders about their personal goals the conversation almost always includes travel.

    You all love to travel!

This desire for travel is much more than the incentive trips you’ve been on and worked so hard for. It’s about much more than the incentive trips you’re maybe currently working to earn right now or the ones coming up.

Those are always in your business goals. And there’s nothing like the energy and experience you have on those trips. I know. I’ve felt it too. You come back so energized with a fresh new perspective and excitement for what you do.

Direct Sales Leaders Personal Goals To Travel More

Yet when I talk with leaders about their personal goals these goals almost always include travel and travel with your family. Showing your kids the world. Having them experience places and people and create lifelong memories together.

I believe this is something in common with women who are ambitious, need a creative outlet, have a spirit of adventure, love to have fun, are driven, and enjoy working hard to earn these experiences.

Direct Sales Leaders Love To Travel More

The fact that you can fund all or some of these personal trips as a result of your business success is a big part of the desire to travel. It’s rewarding and fulfilling in just a different way. Bravo!

And so I share just a little bit about my recent travels to spark that daydream destination of yours into a reality.

Many of the leaders I work with would love to travel more.

  • My #1 Strategy If You've Ever Worked With Another Direct Sales Company

Hey savvy leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. We’re here for episode 91!

Have you ever switched direct sales companies? Or has there ever been another direct sales company in your past? Ever? Different from the one you’re with now?

    It’s so common. Right.

You’re listening to the right episode if you’ve ever tried, attempted, worked it but didn’t succeed, worked it and did succeed, and then stopped, and either a short amount of time passed, or a long amount of time has passed,

and now you’re with another company, any which way you’ve been involved in the business aspect of another direct sales company, and now you’re with a different company, you’re in the right episode.

I have one important strategy for you. Have you done this yet? Keep listening! And you can find the full transcript of this episode and all the clickable links at crazybigdreams.biz/91.

I this is not you, please tag or forward this to someone you know who’s had another company in their past.

Let me clarify the past involvement I’m really speaking to here. Because a lot of Direct Sales individuals support other direct sales individuals by making purchases. They have a great product and great service so we maybe purchase from one another. Yes.

That’s not what I’m talking about. Not those companies.

I’m talking about the companies that you had any level of interest in pursuing the business opportunity, and you’re no longer with that company.

A lot of people tell me “Well I never really did the business though.” Still, even in those situations, it doesn’t matter how or if you acted or followed through on the desire to pursue and build that business, it matters that you once had a glimmer of a thought or desire to build that business.

It also doesn’t matter if the experience with that former company was successful or not. Maybe you were wildly successful with a former company. Maybe you even made it to the highest rank! Maybe you didn’t make it to the highest possible rank, but you made it to the leadership level. You had a team.

Ok. Regardless of the success you did or did not have, I still want you to check in with this strategy I have for you. The strategy I have is still relevant and beneficial for you.

The strategy I have for you is to get rid of everything that represents that company. Yes. You heard me right. Get rid of everything that represents that company. Everything. Everything that has the logo on it. Every coffee mug, beach towel, hoodie, t-shirt, bag, and here’s the big one. Product.

When I say get rid of I trust you to do the sustainable thing and recycle, donate, gift, and maybe sell?? Mind your p’s and q’s on that – they may have some rules about selling, but those gifts you earned, the notepads and pens, even the incentive gifts you earned even if they don’t have the company logo on, all of those.

Scour your email, your hard drive, your iCloud, your camera roll, your car, and every room of your house. Be intentional about looking for and finding everything you can.

Every once in a while well into the future, you’ll come across that rogue pen or gift or little nick-nack thing that you overlooked or forgot about. No big deal.

But do one good intentional sweep through all of your belongings. You may be surprised at how much you have.

Hey leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. Welcome to episode 90!

Today we’re talking about building your unstoppable direct sales team. I love this. Because every leader who’s reached the level of success like you have can identify when that shift happened in her business.

When you go from ‘this is not about me and my business anymore’ to ‘this is about my team and the women who want more, can have more, and want to do the work’. It’s about so much more than it has been up until this turning point.

Going forward, it’s all about helping these women and more women to see, believe, and experience for themselves what is truly possible.

It drives you now. I know.

Building your unstoppable team, however, is never-ending work. It’s always always a focus. It’s about transferring your belief to her. How do you do that?!

Well, you’re in the right place! Let’s talk about it.

When You Guess If You’re An Effective Direct Sales Leader

Okay, let’s get into success step 2 Building Your Unstoppable Team. First, know that all leaders take guesses at how they are leading their team.

“Am I giving them what they want? Do they get from me what they need? If they could only be more consistent and understand that those that succeed at this are the ones that simply don’t quit.”

I know. I hear it all the time. You are not alone.

Today’s episode is all about step 1 of 4 in this success process: Growing Your Confidence.

I know one of the things you love most about your business is to help other women to dream big and earn life-changing prosperity.

But this can also be frustrating. Many don’t see what’s possible.

They aren’t consistent — or worse — they give up and quit.

This can cause many leaders to question their leadership.

Every leader questions what she’s doing at some point on their success journey. Actually many times. It’s part of what brings successful leaders more success.

Yes, it sounds a little backward. Why would confident leaders question their leadership skills?

Don’t get me wrong. You are confident. It’s not your confidence we’re talking about it’s confidence in your leadership skills.

These are two different things. Confidence in yourself as a leader and confidence in your skills are two different things.

Both can grow and develop. But confidence in yourself as a leader can have a  bit more ambiguous traits to focus on.

I deep dive into this with my clients. There is more to this because knowing your specific top leadership strengths and also the traits that fall in at the bottom is incredibly important.

Leadership skills as I describe them are a bit more tangible. There are specific things you can identify and do more of or less of or more efficiently when we talk about skills.

These can both be discovered through knowing your leadership strengths. I take my clients through a leadership strengths assessment and we use the results together for a high-touch, high-value experience. Today, for this episode topic, I’m referring to leadership skills.

The second reason confident leaders may question their leadership skills is that successful leaders are on a journey to continue to grow in their leadership abilities and skills.

Successful savvy leaders just like you can both be confident in what they’ve done to get where they are and also tell me “I really just need more confidence in my leadership skills. Skills like transferring resilience to my team,  dissolving their doubts, and instilling an unshakeable drive.”

These are the specific things I hear, accomplished, savvy, high-achieving leaders ask me about.

And here is what I have to say. Check your boundaries.

    Yes, your boundaries.

What could I mean by this?! Go to crazybigdreams.biz/89 to find out!
