Creative Encounter Podcast

Performance and social anxiety is a reality for many creatives. The pressures of being an artist and comparing ourselves to others can make us question our value. We must make sure not to operate in a space of deficiency, but rather, remember that we've been given our creativity for a reason, and should operate as such. In today's episode I interview singer-songwriter, Dennis Earl Foster II. Dennis shares his story of how fear and anxiety once stifled him as a creative, and how the Lord used situations to cause a shift in his mindset that allowed him to venture out into big opportunities. Dennis has gone from hesitantly singing in a small room, to confidently leading thousands in worship!

Today's guest is Vantenia Kelley. In today's episode Vantenia shares her story of how when she decided to commit herself to excellence, God opened tremendous doors. She reminds us that when God speaks a word over your life, He will bring it to pass - our only job is to trust Him at His word.

Vantenia Kelley is a Chicago native, who received her B.F.A. in dance from Northern Illinois University. She has worked with, trained, and taught various dance ministries, dance teams, and studios throughout the Chicagoland area and abroad. She has trained in various styles of dance such as modern, jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, and African. She is currently the lead dancer for Recording Christian Pop Artist Shuree Rivera. Vantenia is also a member of Dance Missions International and has traveled to Uganda, Africa to teach and minister through dance. Vantenia is passionate about her love for dance and aims to inspire others to always follow their dreams. She has just launched Hallowed Ground Dance Ensemble, African-inspired dance across multi-generations.

Creatives can find ourselves having many things on our plate and we can ask ourselves how to be consistent and juggle it all. But as a creative, and ultimately as a child of God, it is vital that our relationship with God be the most consistent thing in our lives. In today's episode I interview Mylene Raspado, a Latina Interior Designer who designs with Color, Culture, & Creativity. Mylene shares her story of how she initially played it "safe" in her pursuit of a teaching degree until God propelled her into her calling as a designer. The road has not always been easy as a mother of 3, but as she has found her consistency in God to be her main pursuit, everything related to her family, business, and ministry continues to fall in place.

In today's episode, I have the honor and privilege of interviewing guitarist and producer Steven L. Dukes. A number of years ago, I had the opportunity to work with Steve on some original music and recordings. Now, Steve is currently a lead guitarist and creative director for international gospel recording artist Todd Dulaney.

For the musical artist who desires to play at a level and caliber of excellence, Steve offers 3 practical tips to abide by. He also shares the difference between following your passions and following your gifts. Oftentimes we can find ourselves putting all of our energy into what we are passionate about because it's what we care about, where in actuality it's our gifts that make room for us. Tune in to episode 20 as Steve shares the doors that God has opened for him through his gifts, and how it has allowed his passions to come to fruition.

Our guest today is Anai, a singer-songwriter, producer and vocal coach. Anai shares her life-changing story and testimony on how God literally saved her from death into not only a new life, but a new name as well. For those of you who don't know, I was most recently casted on an Entrepreneurship Reality Show called "The Blox", created by MTV's The Challenge star, Wes Bergmann. "The Blox" is the greatest show on entrepreneurship! This phenomenal show is dedicated to equipping entrepreneurs with the tools needed for our businesses to thrive. Out of 10,000 applicants, I was casted for season 5, promoting my business Starving Artists Courses, alongside about 60 other businesses. In today's episode, I share my experience of what it was like being on reality TV and all of the takeaways I learned through education, competition, and meaningful relationships.

I also was able to connect with other spirit led believers on the show who also have Christ as the Cornerstone of their businesses. David Harvitz, Nicholas Hurd, and myself will be launching a mini podcast series entitled "The Cornerstone: Spirit Led Entrepreneurship" as we explore Biblical principles in business.

One of the joys of being a parent is gifting your child with something and then experiencing them offer it back like, "play with me with it!" - which inevitably deepens your relationship with your child. This is God's heart as it relates to our creative gifts. In today's episode, I interview a good friend of over 20 years - worshipper, musician, artist, Gabe Lopez. Gabe shares his unique perspective on what it means to truly use and share our gifts by inviting God in to play with us.

In today's episode, Just Steve joins me in the studio and shares his unique style of artistry. He shares how he has been on both ends of the spectrum of many great opportunities and opportunities that were not as accepting of his art form as he had hoped. In this episode, Just Steve and I breakdown how uniqueness will not always fit in every situation and you can’t fit each mold every time, but how the right perspective and a right motive changes the game!
