Whether you’re a solo entrepreneur just beginning to scale your business or a manager at a large company, you should be thinking about how you’re shaping and building your leadership team.

In “Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business,” Gino Wickman emphasizes that your leadership team must be on the same page. You should have a united front. Think of your business as a family. When both parents (the leadership team) are on the same page, the family thrives.

I’m applying this principle as I build my own leadership team at my agency.

Mike encourages you to shift your perspective. Most businesses focus on their worst customers by catering to them. However, birds of a feather flock together. If you’re serving bad clients, you’re likely to attract more.

Instead, identify your best clients who:

Pay you the most.

You enjoy working with.

Once you know who your best clients are, find out where they congregate. Start showing up there and win them.

Are your operational systems holding your business back?

My agency is hitting its first glass ceiling. This is exciting because it means the growth we’ve been experiencing over the last two years is as strong and steady as it feels.

However, with this growth has come more and more moments where I have become the bottleneck on certain projects because of our systems and processes. Consequently, several friends of mine recommended I read “Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business” by Gino Wickman.

Procrastination leads to failure.

In “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, he cites a study where 25,000 people who avoided making decisions and procrastinated, failed.

Sometimes, we don’t make decisions or take action because we are afraid of failing. It’s scary, right? However, this study shows that failure is more imminent for those who never decide, than those who make a decision.

Moral of the story? Act. Do. Make mistakes. Just please, don’t procrastinate!
