The cure for imposter syndrome exhaustion is doing one “something” every day. The heartbeat of plot is the scene. There’s a character in a situation, a conflict or problem arises, then whatever it is gets handled. Each problem, once handled, whether solved or shifted, results in a new situation with a new problem making a new scene. String a bunch together - Problem —problem handled —problem—Problem handled - and you’ve got the two-cylinder engine of plot. Now, if you want the tension to build, instead of handling each problem in a sequence, pack it into another bigger problem that has to be resolved first. Then another and another until you’ve got a series of problems stacked like Russian matrioskka dolls.
