We’re continuing our study of the book of Acts. This Sunday morning Gary Pendergrass, one of our Shepherds, will preach a lesson from Acts chapter 3. In this chapter Peter and John were going to the Temple to pray and came across a lame man wanting money. Peter gives him healing through the power of Christ, enabling him to walk. No matter how you or I are broken, Christ is able to heal us.

"In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Proverbs 3:6-8 (ESV).

Gary will bring us a lesson this Sunday morning on how we can find healing and hope in Christ. May God bless us as we unite together in fellowship and worship.

We looked last week at the beginning of Acts with the resurrected Lord Jesus and the giving of the Holy Spirit. This week we will explore those last few verses of chapter two where we see the life of the church begin. What were they doing? What was their purpose? What do we see in them that we should have in us as the church today?

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. Acts 2:42-47 (ESV).

Jesus was devoted to doing His Father’s will. The 1st Century church was devoted to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayer. May we unite together in devotion to our God and all these things we see in His Word.

We’re beginning a new textual sermon series looking at the book of Acts. It’s important to know the Gospel accounts and the story of Jesus’ ministry. The book of Acts begins with the resurrected Lord giving some final instructions.

So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. Acts 1:6-9 (ESV).

The glory and power of God almighty shines in His Church. We, as the Church, have been called to shine the glory of God. Let’s unite together and discover the glory of God in His Church.

This new year presents us with another opportunity to begin a new. There’s a natural desire to improve yourself and your life with a new year. There’re many ways we can all grow and change to improve ourselves. One of the best ways would be to gain wisdom in the new year. Paul gave some interesting insight into his perspective of life as a Christian considering his past in light of him obtaining the resurrection from the dead.

"Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:12-14 (ESV). 

Let’s join together this Sunday to consider how we can grow in our faith and in wisdom as we live our lives for God.

The Prophet Isaiah and the Apostle John both shared amazing insights into who Jesus was and what He was going to do. Isaiah prophesied about 500 years before Christ. Did Isaiah really see Jesus?

Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said, “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.” Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him. John 12:37-41 (ESV).

Scripture tells us Isaiah saw Jesus' glory. Let's join together this Sunday and discover what John and Isaiah have to say about Jesus. Can we experience the glory of Christ in our lives today?

The prophet Isaiah foretold of Jesus being great, that He would be called the son of God, and that He would reign on David’s throne. Jesus was born a king at His birth.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.” Isaiah 9:6-7 (ESV).

If Jesus is a King, what does that mean to us? If He’s a King, where is His kingdom. Jesus is more than just our Savior, He’s our Lord and King. Is Jesus your King? Let’s join together this Sunday and worship our Christ and King.

The prophet Isaiah saw a glimpse into the future of what the Messiah would be. God would send Jesus, God in the flesh, into the world. The Christ was to suffer and to be crushed by the Lord. Why? To bring salvation from sins. To help us overcome the weakness of the flesh and be brought into eternal relationship with God. Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would;

"He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Isa 53:7-10 (ESV).

What a tremendous and mysterious gift we have in Christ. Jesus’ death brought life and we live our lives in the flesh so we can learn how to die like Jesus did.

This Sunday we will continue our new series considering the amazing prophecies of Isaiah and the providence of God through Jesus. Isaiah gave numerous prophecies about the coming Messiah. This lesson fill focus on Jesus bringing light into a world of darkness.

"But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined. Isaiah 9:1-2 (ESV).

Jesus is the great light that overcomes darkness. Let’s join together to study what scripture has to say about this and how we can be a conduit to shine the light of our Lord.

This Sunday we begin a new series considering the amazing prophecies and providence of God for our salvation from sin and eternal punishment. Isaiah gave numerous prophecies about a coming Messiah; Immanuel, which means God with us. We’re about to enter a whole month where many in our country and around the world will be thinking about Jesus, God’s one and only Son, coming into the world. Mary asked the angel how this miracle would happen.

"And the angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy— the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God." And Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:35-38 (ESV).

We will join together this Lord’s Day to remember one of the greatest moments of all time; the birth of God in the flesh. Jesus our Lord and Savior.

This Sunday we will consider God’s calling to us through His Word to be thankful. We have so many reasons to be full of gratitude and thanksgiving to God and others in our lives. Paul wrote to the Thessalonian church telling them to give thanks in ALL circumstances. This is God’s will for us that we are always thankful people.

"We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” 1 Thess 5:12-22 (ESV).

Let’s unite together this Sunday morning and evening to express our gratitude and thankfulness to God and our church family.
