We’re putting a pause on our Poison Control series to celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday. The message will be simple; God wants us to be like Him. Our goal is to imitate our God and make Him proud. Jesus taught this numerous times. Here’s one example.

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matt 5:43-48 (ESV).

We not only want to be like God to make Him proud, but for us dads, we are better Fathers when we’re like our heavenly Father. Let’s come together this Sunday morning to celebrate our earthly Fathers and remember our amazing heavenly Father. We are richly blessed by God when we look and see it.

We are surrounded by poisonous substances. We have to make sure we’re careful when we’re around chemicals and other sources of poison to make sure we don’t become poisoned. Spiritually speaking we equally have things that are poisonous to our spirits and could harm us or even bring death. We need to have an attitude of determined to avoid things that are harmful to us.

"I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will make music. I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil. Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.” Psalm 101:1-5 (ESV).

Let’s unite together this Sunday morning to consider how we can avoid harmful spiritual poisons and live healthy spiritual lives in Christ.

How many of you love to garden? Some of you love your flowerbeds. Others love their vegetable garden. Growing things is a lot of work, but is extremely rewarding. We see the analogy of growing things throughout the Bible. Paul uses this analogy to the Christians in Corinth.

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, "He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-10 (ESV)

This Sunday we will come together to study God’s Word and learn how we can become even greater gardeners and gatherers.

We have had some very difficult things as a country happen to us recently. There has been a great many evil things happening. The most common questions have been “Why?” and “What are we going to do?” In response to this there has been much debate, discussion, and complete disagreement at times on the answers to those questions. Paul tells us some things to do.

“Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be conceited. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:16-21 (ESV).

Let’s come together and get into God’s word on how to deal with the evil around us in our lives today.

Well, this Sunday morning is our Senior Sunday where we honor our High School graduates and give them a Bible from our church family here at Creekside. For our lesson we will consider how we all are working to grow up and graduate from this life to the next. What are the things we must do as followers of Christ in order to begin that new chapter of our life and go on to live with our God in heaven? Paul says this about himself in his letter to the Philippian Christians.

“For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith — that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.” Phil 3:8b-11 (ESV).

Let’s join together and encourage our High School graduates as we all grow up to graduation.

Have you ever been held against your will or been trapped in some way? Most of us have never been a literal slave with a human master but many of us know what it’s like to deal with something more powerful than we are. Have you ever had a bad habit that was difficult to overcome? Well, we all have had to deal with our slavery to sin. Praise God that through Jesus we become His children and heirs with Christ.

In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:3-7 (ESV).

Let’s come together this Sunday morning and remember the terrible life of slavery to sin we used to live and help others find the freedom in Christ we enjoy.

“’M’ is for the many things she gave me, ‘O’ means only that she’s growing old...” I learned that song in elementary school. (I even made a third grade-level attempt to write similar lyrics for “FATHER”; hopefully, those will never surface.) As that song reveals, throughout the ages the importance of our mothers has been recognized by nearly everyone. But we have to admit that being a mother is among the hardest jobs there is. Lots of effort, and the rewards aren’t always immediate in coming. (For some reason, most toddlers think the world revolves around themselves.) The value of mothers is almost immeasurable. 

This morning, we’ll explore that value and hopefully provide some insight on how we as parents can make our homes everything that God wants it to be. There will also be encouragement for all of us who are part of the larger Christian family to be a godly influence in the lives of children.

This Sunday we will continue our series on Evangelism and the good news. This lesson will focus on the good news we find in the promise of the resurrection. Is the coming resurrection important to you? Why is the resurrection important to us? Paul tells us about an eternal change that’s coming at the last trumpet call of God.

"I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.” 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 (ESV).

We talked about the importance of Christ’s death and burial. Now we will join together this Sunday to study scripture concerning the coming resurrection and the great promises waiting for us at that time.

This Sunday we will continue our series on Evangelism. This lesson will focus on the good news found in Jesus’ burial. So what’s the significance of Jesus being dead and buried for 3 days? Wouldn’t it have made a bigger impact if Jesus had been dead and immediately raised back to life? Why did God choose to leave Jesus’ dead body in the tomb for those 3 days.

"After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body. Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight. So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.” John 19:38-42 (ESV).

We typically think of Jesus death on the cross and His resurrection but give little consideration to His burial. The Gospel is Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Let’s join together and get into God’s Word.

This Sunday we will continue our series on Evangelism; the good news of Jesus. This lesson will focus on the good news found in death. We have good news in the literal death of Jesus on the cross. We also will consider the figurative death scripture tells us about in ourselves and in baptism.

"What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life." Romans 6:1-4 (ESV). 

Death is usually something we want to avoid. In this lesson we will consider all the ways we should embrace death and how good news can be found in death.
