This coming Sunday morning we will continue our series on Living Life God’s Way and take a look at what scripture has to say about parenting God’s Way. God created the family. He chose to make a man and a woman come together as one flesh and bear children. When they bring a child into the world, a Husband and Wife instantly become a Dad and Mom. How can parents and grandparents know how to raise their kids and grand kids? Paul makes some interesting remarks about parenting to the Christians in Thessalonica.

"For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil: we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless was our conduct toward you believers. For you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.” 1 Thess 2:9-12 (ESV).

How can we encourage children to walk in a manner worthy of God? How can we labor and toil to bless our kids, grandkids, and any child we have in our lives? Let’s join together this Sunday and unite together as the family of God.

This Sunday morning we will focus on the Resurrection and Commission of Christ in Matthew 28. The Resurrection is essential to our faith and salvation. The Great Commission is essential to our faith and salvation. These two events are connected to each other in Matthew’s concluding chapter with a false Jewish rumor placed in between them in the text. Matthew is intentional with this placement: the Resurrection is part of the Good News to share! Christ’s sacrificial death is imperative for us as Christians, but we must remember that the Good News is that Jesus died and lived. The world will tell us that Christ only died, but we know the truth. Jesus commands his disciples after His Resurrection, and He commands us to tell the world about Him and that He lives. We preach that Christ is raised!

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV).

We all want to do what Jesus says, and we can do it by the Spirit He has given us! Let’s join together and worship our God this morning. Rejoice Church, because Christ lives!

This Sunday morning we will resume our series on Living Life God’s Way and take a look at what scripture has to say about Marriage. God established marriage and the intimate union where a man and woman become one. Marriage is one of the most rewarding and challenging relationships we have in this life. Paul gives wives and husbands some instructions concerning their relationship.

"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” Eph 5:22-27 (ESV).

We will not only talk about God’s marvelous creation of marriage but we will also talk about those living a single life. May God bless us all as we study His Word and live life His way.

This Sunday morning we will study what the scriptures say about Elders of the Church. We as a church family, under the guidance of our current Shepherds, are considering additional men to serve as Shepherds. This Sunday’s lesson will focus on what the scriptures say about the Overseers or Shepherds of the local church. Here’s what Paul told Timothy.

"The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil. 1 Tim 3:1-7 (ESV).

Please be in prayer to God that He will guide our congregation and Shepherds to elect men who can lead our church family.

We’re pausing our series on “Living Life God’s Way” for two weeks. We need some more Shepherds and our current Elders are beginning the process of us adding some additional Shepherds. Because of this we will focus on leadership in the Lord’s church this week and Shepherds specifically next week. Leadership is very important but faithful followers are equally important. The Hebrews author tells us...

"Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner.” Heb 13:17-19 (ESV).

Let’s join together this Sunday and study God’s Word concerning leaders, followers and doing the work of God.

We’re beginning a new sermon series this Sunday morning where we will consider what it means to live life God’s Way. There are many challenges we face trying to live life God’s Way, we struggle against the pressures of the world and it’s influences, we fight against our own flesh and temptation, and sometimes those closest to us affect us in negative ways. God wants us to live our lives as Christ lived His life. Consider the words of Peter in 1 Peter 4:1-6.

"Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. The time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you; but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does." 1 Peter 4:1-6 (ESV)

Sometimes we feel like we’re always on the defensive in our Christian life. Peter tells the church to “arm yourselves” with the way Jesus thought. Jesus was on the offensive doing things and causing things. Specifically Jesus was doing all those things that lined up with the Father’s purpose and mission for Him. Let’s join together this Sunday and consider ways we all can grow in living life God’s Way.

I don’t have to work very hard to convince you that God is Love and that Jesus’ ministry was all about love; Love for God and love for people. We all know that God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son. John 3:16. We also need to remember that God, and the Lord Jesus, want us to be like our heavenly Father. Our Lord wants us to love like He loves. Why? Because Jesus loves like the Father loves because God is love. John 4:8

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Matt 5:43-48 (ESV).

We should strive to be like our heavenly Father. And by His help and power we are changed to be more and more like Him. Let’s join together this Sunday and grow in our commitment and understanding of God’s Love and how we should love like Him. Let’s follow our Father.

Last Sunday was the 21st anniversary of 9/11. I preached a lesson last Sunday night about Learning to Love the Light in the Shadow of Darkness. We discussed the Light of Jesus in the face of darkness. This coming Sunday morning we will have a lesson concerning the struggle between light and darkness. And the immediate response by many after the attacks of 9/11. People served, sacrificed, and selflessly gave of themselves. I fear the darkness is growing again and the time has come and will come when we who are the light of Christ can shine His love. John says something interesting in 1 John 2:8 concerning darkness.

"Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes." 1 John 2:7-11 (ESV).

Let’s join together this Lord’s day and recognize the passing of darkness and embrace the light of Christ.

This Sunday Gary will preach a sermon about dealing with difficult situations in life. We all have problems and challenges in life. How should we deal with them? Does the Bible give us any instruction on how to deal with problems and uncertainty? How can we overcome those things that weaken us? Consider the words of Paul to the Christians in Philippians.

"I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concernfor me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Phil 4:10-13 (ESV).

This coming Monday is our national holiday; Labor Day. It’s a special day we celebrate our history of Labor in this country and how it was reformed. We as Christians should celebrate our Labor in the Lord. As followers of Jesus we work in this life a labor of love. This is what Paul said to the church in Thessalonica.

"We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thess 1:2-3 (ESV).

Let’s join together this Sunday and celebrate the Labor of Love that we share in Christ.
