In the last 28 years of law enforcement, I have had the privilege of serving in various roles throughout my career including the DWI task force, Tactical Response Unit (TRU), Street Crimes Assistance Team (SCAT), Field Training Officer. This experience, lead me to the development/ founding officer of the San Antonio Police Department Mental Health Unit in 2008.
Ernie and I have a great conversation about the state of law enforcement and how we can take care of ourselves better.

We all want pretty much the same thing. To be happy. Now that looks different among people, but happiness is happiness. The first step is to accept the reality you are in. There is no growth in living in the past. Sure your past is a part of you, but YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY YOUR PAST. The future you have always wanted awaits you. Live in the moment. Accept where you are right now and take steps to improve your life. Stop blaming others for where you are at right now. Take responsibility and if you need help remember you are not alone. You are never alone.

Kurt Dabb is a retired law enforcement professional with over two decades of experience. In 2021 Kurt was forced into a medical retirement and was told he was no longer qualified to be a cop anymore. Kurt suffered from PTSD and Addiction Challenges. Like most of us who face challenges, Kurt was devastated. Kurt went through dark times, but eventually came out after receiving treatment for his challenges. The key to this is that Kurt came forward. Something most of us are unwilling to do.
Kurt is still trying to figure it out but he knows he is not alone and his recovery is paramount in his life.
Kurt is a big advocate of first responder health and wellness and alternate forms of therapy. A great discussion with survivor.

It's not often I get to interview a current law enforcement professional and I was very excited to have Jason Louis on the show. Jason is an active-duty police sergeant with over 23 years of experience in a variety of assignments including custody, patrol, investigations and training. Prior to returning to patrol he was assigned as the In-Service Training Supervisor for his agency's regional training center and he is a sitting member of his agency's use of force review board. Feeling the need to continue to arm law enforcement professionals with the best training possible, Jason created The Briefing Room. Raise your internal thermostat. Raise it to 100 degrees. I am not talking about body temp I am talking about mind temp. When you raise that temp your life will begin to change for the better. In fact you won't want to spend too much time with people with a low mind temp. They are not bad people they just wont be on the same frequency and body temp as you. You are destined for great things. You can change your life. Nothing is set in stone. However, it starts with raising your mind temp. You can do it. You are unique. You are loved.

So excited to have my next guest on, Dan Spencer. Dan is a Marine Corps Veteran and a Veteran Law Enforcement Officer of 20 years. Dan served honorably in both of his roles and wore many hats. I am so excited to have my friend Dr. Tina Jaeckle on the show. Tina Jaeckle, Ph. D. is a licensed clinical social worker in Florida, and Georgia and has over two decades of mental health experience. Dr. Jaeckle has presented nationally on issues of crisis/trauma/stress/critical incidents, officer involved shootings resiliency, and suicide (law enforcement). She serves as the mental health/training coordinator for several CISM/Peer Support and hostage/crisis negotiation teams. Dr. Jaeckle is also a current EAP counselor for police/corrections for the Jacksonville (Florida) Sheriff’s Office. Dr. Jaeckle has extensive experience in the development, coordination, and training of law enforcement and fire rescue CISM programs.
