This week Pastor Doug preaches through one of the most famous passages, Acts 20:1-12, where Eutychus falls asleep during a lengthy sermon from the Apostle Paul, which prompts the Apostle to raise him from the dead and continue in his preaching until daybreak. However, we often overlook the simple fact of the necessity of Spirit-empowered encouragement the Church needs to receive to keep pressing toward the goal of sharing the greatest news the world will know and making more disciples of Jesus Christ.

One characteristic of the Gospel is that it is divisive. It divides the holy from the unholy. It confronts our idol worship, and the sins we cling so religiously to. In Acts 19, we'll see how the Gospel disrupts cultural norms and empowers followers of Jesus to confront idolatry, which transforms the lives of people, cities and nations. Jesus is the light of the world, and he can transform people and cities from dwellings of darkness to beacons of light to the world. If he can transform cities then, He can do it again.

In Acts 18:24-19:10, we see the importance of continuous strong discipleship - where we spend our lives learning and growing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Strong discipleship is essential to a thriving church that will withstand persecution and earthly sorrow.

In Acts 17:16-34, the Apostle Paul gives us a masterclass on effective evangelism that is as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago. In Acts 17:1-15, Paul and his companions get two very different reactions to the preaching of the Kingdom of Heaven. For some, the news of the Kingdom of Heaven is good news, to others it is very bad news. Jesus is the only King who, and His Kingdom is the only Kingdom that, will last forever. If you align with His Kingdom over any other kingdom, you will be gloriously guilty by association, and you must be prepared to endure what ever suffering comes your way.

In Acts 16, the Apostle Paul embarks on his second missionary journey and we see how the Lord guided him into situations where the Lord will add to the Kingdom of Heaven those who were being saved. We ultimately see there is nothing that can restrain the power of Jesus to seek and save the lost.

In Acts 15:36-41, we see how conflict can occur amongst even the most devoted of disciples of Jesus. Yet, conflict doesn't need to lead to division, and instead be an opportunity to put on display the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastor Doug leads in the preaching of the Word, and provides some helpful tips for conflict resolution in the body of Christ.

In Acts 15 the Gospel of grace is put on trial. While this was a heated argument that could have split the Church, the leaders defended Grace from Scripture and extended grace to the new believers who God was calling from among the nations. The Gospel of grace reminds us that we can rest on the finished work of Christ at the cross.

We need to know that the Gospel may get us into trouble, a good kind of trouble when we stand for the Gospel in a world that opposes the Gospel. We must live unapologetically under the authority of Jesus, no matter what that brings into our path. Pastor Nolan preaches through Acts 14, and we see how the persecution we face for contending for the Gospel is a gift because it affirms in us our devotion to Jesus and strengthens our faith to endure.
