Although the children of Israel will not be entering the promised land for 40 years, it is still important to the Lord for the people to be reminded about God's standard. So, in Numbers 15, we get to revisit certain laws that the Lord had given His people.

Because Jesus is real, we are a family of faith, fully engaged, transforming our community and our world. That is God's vision for us as a church. We are on a mission by simply responding to Jesus. As we continue on with the account of the return of the twelve spies from scoping out the Promised Land, we find that the people refuse to follow God and enter the new land. This decision, like all acts of rebellion, has dire consequences for the unfaithful children of Israel.

God, delivered the children of Israel from Egypt to give them the Promised Land. Before the children of Israel were to take the land, twelve spies (one from each of the tribes of Israel) were sent in. Will they follow God by faith? Or will they choose to walk by sight and suffer dire consequences?

Sometimes life doesn't go the way we planned it. It can even go off the rails and we end up in a place we never thought we would be. Jonah ended up alive in the belly of a special fish that God prepared just for him. And Jonah, like many of us, came back home to God in the midst of life's difficult circumstances. Looking at how Jonah got there and how he prays to God from the depths of his despair, you just might learn a thing or two about what to do when life seems too hard to handle!

When we cry out to God, God answers us in profound ways. We see this clearly in the second half of Numbers 11 and Numbers 12. Moses needed help, and God placed His Spirit on 70 elders. The people wanted meat, and God sent quail (although as judgment). And after Miriam and Aaron rebelled against Moses’ leaders, God still healed!

Everyone's heard the story of Jonah. Like James Dean or William Wallace, when you think of Jonah you think Rebel. Someone who heard what God wanted him to do, but ran the opposite direction. At least that's what it looks like on the surface. The reality is the biggest rebel in the book of Jonah is actually God Himself.
