For the first time since DMP's episodes numbered in single-digits, we present a genre show because sometimes music is too weird and wonderful to be confined to just one artist. Kevin is back to guide Jonny and you, our dear listener, through the mesmerizing world of Minimalism. This modern off-shoot of classical music is beautiful, controversial, hypnotic, annoying... depends who you ask. We think it's pretty cool and definitely worth exploring on a show called Discover Music Project! You'll even hear a funny little composition by your host. Here's the setlist:
1. John Adams - Loops and Verses (Shaker Loops)
2. John Adams - News Has a Kind of Mystery (Nixon in China)
3. John Adams - The Chairman Dances (I Am Love - Soundtrack)
4. Steve Reich - Come Out (Early Works)
5. Jonathan Metts - Aria of Sorrow Voice Jam
6. Philip Glass - Definitions (Naqoyqatsi - Soundtrack)
7. Philip Glass - Company: Second Movement (Company)
8. Philip Glass - Dr. Van Helsing and Dracula (Dracula - Soundtrack)
9. Philip Glass - Spaceship (Einstein on the Beach)
Encore:
Aphex Twin - Bucephalus Bouncing Ball (Come to Daddy)

It's time to celebrate the 40th episode of DMP with a new guest co-host, Kevin Sylves, and a featured musician sure to be a revelation to many of our listeners. This episode is all about Edgar Meyer, recognized as one of the most talented double bassists in the world. Meyer's musical interests are quite diverse, and these selections give equal measure to both classical and bluegrass, with touches of country and jazz to spice things up. Edgar Meyer is also big on collaborations (a good quality in any bass player, as Kevin points out), so you'll also hear from luminaries such as Bela Fleck, Yo-Yo Ma, Jerry Douglass, and Chris Thile. Here's the setlist:
1. Why Don't You Go Back to the Woods (Skip, Hop and Wobble)
2. Pickles (Appalachia Waltz)
3. Zigeunerweisen (Uncommon Ritual)
4. Duet for Cello and Bass (Appalachian Journey)
5. Cello Suite 1, Gigue (Bach: Unaccompanied Cello Suites Performed on Double Bass)
6. Concerto in D, Mvt 3 (Meyer and Bottesini Concertos)
7. Solar (Music for Two)
8. Prelude No 2, BWV 847 (Music for Two)
9. Eccles Sonata, Largo (Music for Two)
10. Eccles Sonata, Allegro Vivace (Music for Two)
11. Please Don't Feed the Bear (Edgar Meyer)
12. G-22 (Edgar Meyer and Chris Thile)
13. Quarter Chicken Dark (The Goat Rodeo Sessions)
Encore:
Yo-Yo Ma & Bobby McFerrin - "Flight Of The Bumblebee" (Hush)

Can you believe it's Episode 5 already?
This week on The Frozen North Dinnercast, our favorite Alaskans decided to keep things light. After all, nothing sours an appetite like bad news. So kick back, grab an ice cold beer, a sandwich and perhaps a loved one if you're so inclined and pull up a chair. It's time to feast.
And when you're done, make sure you leave us a review on iTunes. Crosstawk can only grow with your help and that's the best way to show your appreciation. You can also contact us via email ([email protected]), Twtter (@crosstawk) and in the comments section on the site.
See you later in the week for a new Discover Music Project and the return of Rough Draught: The Beer Appreciation Show!
Hello and welcome to a brand new episode of Box Office Poison, the podcast all about movies and movie things! This time, Jonny and Mike had to step out to take care of some business (skiing and boyfriend duties, respectively), so it's just Jon, Stan and myself on this episode. And since we hadn't seen anything of particular note in this deadzone of movie releases, we went ahead and skipped straight to Trailer Trash.
But what a Trailer Trash it was! We discussed The Amazing Spider-Man, The Bourne Legacy, The Three Stooges (unfortunately) and wrapped things up with The Hunger Games.
What did you think of these trailers? Let us know via email ([email protected], Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the site. And when you're done there, head on over to iTunes and leave us a review.
See you guys later in the week for a brand new Frozen North Dinnercast, Discover Music Project and the long-overdue return of Rough Draught!
Publishing on time in 2012, it's a new episode of Crosstawk Comics! One of our favorite titles out of the New 52 from DC has been Anima Man by Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman, so Gus and I decided to talk about the most critically acclaimed run on the character ever - Grant Morrison's 27-issue streak from 1988 through 1990. Notable for its spirited stance on environmentalism, animal rights, existentialism and even the nature of fiction, it's arguably one of Morrison's most treasured works. Did Gus and I think it held up, though? You'll have to listen in to find out!
When you get a chance, please head on over to iTunes and leave us a rating and a review. Crosstawk only grows through word of mouth, and the best way for new listeners to find the show is through a positive review on iTunes. Every single one counts, so rest assured that we appreciate it.
Thanks for listening, guys! We'll be back later this week with a fresh episode of Box Office Poison!
It's finally time to fulfill one of the longest-standing DMP requests, and this one is for The Beach Boys. FND is back, and it's a big of a special episode this time. Instead of the usual informal discussion, Zach decided to take a page out of NWR Connectivity's book and dedicated a full episode to general knowledge trivia. Do you know more than our favorite bunch of Alaskans? (Note: You may!)
In any case, when you're through listening, what you really ought to do is go on over to iTunes and show your appreciation by leaving a review. This is the best way to get the word out about Crosstawk and general, and I know I speak for all of the people who contribute to this little corner of the internet when I say that we'd all be in your debt. So please do so. Please. Jon Rind is inconsolable. Mike Sklens can't sleep at night. Jonny can't even bring himself to listen to Phish. Only you can prevent forest fires (and our depression).
That aside, we'll see you this Friday for a new Discover Music Project!
Ahoy there! It's time for yet another episode of the podcast that's all about movies and movie things, Box Office Poison! This week, Jon unfortunately couldn't make it to the show, but we've got plenty else to discuss, from Chronicle to Take Shelter to even Rocky III and some odd documentary called Beer Tickers.
Then, in the second segment, we discuss our Movie of the Month, Paper Moon. Did we all enjoy this black-and-white take on Depression-era underage grifting? You'll have to listen in to find out. And for those of you who like to play along, our March Movie of the Month is going to be Woody Allen's second-highest grossing film of all time, Hannah and Her Sisters.
As per usual folks, you can contact us via email ([email protected]), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the website. And when you're done there, I'd surely appreciate you heading on over to iTunes and leaving us a kind review. It's the best way for us to grow our audience, and it's the best way for you to support the podcast.
Thanks for listening, guys! We'll see you next week for a new Frozen North Dinnercast and a fresh episode of Discover Music Project!
Jon Rind is back in the land of DMP to deliver a whopping dose of hip-hop to the podcast. We're listening to A Tribe Called Quest, the massively influential but still underground 90s crew out of New York City. Jonny and Jon march through the group's classic albums, exploring the music within the greater context of hip-hop, jazz, and more. It's okay if you don't usually like rap music, because you've probably never heard rapping quite like this, much less combined with such smooth, lush music packed with familiar samples and clever lyrics. Here's the set list:
1. Can I Kick It? (People's Instinctive Travels)
2. Bonita Applebaum (People's Instinctive Travels)
3. Excursions (The Low End Theory)
4. Jazz (The Low End Theory)
5. Scenario (The Low End Theory)
6. Butter (The Low End Theory)
7. Award Tour (Midnight Marauders)
8. The Chase, Pt. 2 (Midnight Marauders)
9. Electric Relaxation (Midnight Marauders)
10. Lyrics to Go (Midnight Marauders)
11. 1nce Again (Beats, Rhymes, and Life)
Encore:
De La Soul - "Buddy" (Native Tongue Decision)
