A Wairarapa hapū is hoping to crowd fund half-a-million dollars to buy back a piece of ancestral whenua. Ngāti Kahukuraawhitia has its eye on 182 hectares by the Waiohine river and ancestral maunga, Tararua. It's raised more than $30,000 on Give-a-Little already, but it is in a race against time to pull the rest together before tenders close on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier, Ngāti Kahukuraawhitia member Joel Ngatuere told me it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
