  • Winning the Battle against Breast Cancer After Losing the Love of My Life with Evelyn Thompson

Currently, more than 3.8 million women in the United States have been diagnosed with breast cancer and it is a potentially fatal disease that accounts for one-third of all cancer-related deaths in women.

The term “survivor” can mean different things for each one of us. But being a survivor means so much more - it manifests itself in a variety of ways. Whether physically, mentally, or emotionally, being a survivor truly brings hope and inspiration.

As we celebrate and close out breast cancer awareness month, I am joined by Evelyn Thompson, a female veteran, a breast cancer survivor, and my Soror who shares her story of how she conquered cancer during the pandemic. What she went through is truly inspiring as to how she handled herself with grace through the entire process of battling cancer.

There are so many incredible people that are put into the ring with this fight. Just like Evelyn, it takes courage and strong faith to stay positive amidst the struggles she faced, yet she’s here with us advocating for breast cancer awareness and sharing with us her tips and learnings from her experience.

Listen to this episode to find encouragement to soldier on through your own battlefields, stay positive, and be encouraged. As cancer survivors would say: keep your eye on ringing your own bell - whatever that may represent in your own lives.

    In this conversation, we discuss:

    • Breast Cancer Awareness Month
    • How she coped during her husband’s death
    • The struggles as a female veteran
    • Phases of her cancer journey
    • Having the most aggressive form of breast cancer in the middle of a pandemic
    • Chronicling her cancer journey on Facebook
    • Importance of family and a support system
    • Tips to have a positive mindset

  • Awakening the Goddess Within You with Co-Authors of the Unchained Goddess

Hey, Goddesses! Ready for Part 2?

Today’s episode is a continuation of Episode 68, and this time we will talk about what it means to be a goddess and how this resembles your own purpose in life as a black woman.

But first of all, how often do we greet each other with the term goddess? I know it’s a word that we usually shy away from because it’s often used to describe someone with high virtues, power, and divinity.

However, the definition of a goddess represents a purpose, a meaning, and a symbol that brings out its divine power. With that said, finding your own purpose by allowing your true self to be unchained from society's stigma can unleash the divine goddess within you.

Our connection with the term goddess may in some ways be foreign to us as black women due to the role that religion plays in our culture.  Often this stifles our personal growth and hinders us from discovering a deeper relationship with God for ourselves not through the lens of man-made religion. Stepping into our goddess self does not in any way contradict, disrupt or blur your belief in God. In fact, fulfilling our true purpose is the reason that created each of us.

A “goddess” is not limited to man-made definitions.   She is free to create and define herself for herself. So have the freedom to find your own meaning of the term “goddess” and be comfortable calling yourself one!

Listen to Episode 69 as I continue to share the stage with these successful black female leaders, entrepreneurs, and goddesses who co-authored the The Unchained Goddess with me. We talk about our own definitions of a goddess and how unfamiliar this is to the black community. Also, learn what is the meaning of goddess power and how you can wield it to your purpose in life.

Be inspired to awaken the goddess within you to live your most opulent life!

  • True Essence of Becoming Unchained As a Black Woman to Live Your Most Authentic Life with Co-Authors of the Unchained Goddess

Saying that black women have become victims of negative stereotyping for centuries is a huge understatement. And these titles that have been used to label us, which is sadly the reflection of  how society thinks of us and expects from us.

This has kept us chained, making it harder to live our purpose and our most opulent life!

Because of that, we find ourselves trying to carry on in life with these chains continuously weighing us down, preventing us from discovering our true capacity, passion and purpose.

Make yourself a priority and unchain yourself from all of these expectations, stereotypes, and pressure. Release the inner goddess in yourself and start living an authentic life to get the divine essence of who you truly are!

The journey of being an unchained goddess starts with yourself.  One way you can start on this journey is listening to today’s episode as I speak with powerful female black female thought leaders and successful entrepreneurs who co-authored the The Unchained Goddess with me.

Andrea “Infiniti” Jones is an artist and intuitive voice coach. Shameka Jones is the owner of the 360 Health Movement. Jena Robinson is a teacher and energy healing practitioner. Dawn Kristin Ellison is a life mastery coach and spiritual mentor in the Evolve Life Mastery. Tierra Womack is a confidence and wealth coach, and  Paula Nichole Goode is a transformation coach and a registered nurse.

It’s my true joy and honor to share the spotlight with these amazing women!

We talk about our different journeys in birthing the idea of the “Unchained Goddess” and writing our own chapters in this book. We spoke of both the joys and pains which led us to discovering our inner goddesses. In this duality of life, we’ve come to appreciate how breaking free from all these different chains have liberated us to live our most authentic and powerful lives. And we all believe it is only right that we pass this on to generations of goddesses ahead of us.

Listen and be enlightened about the true essence and meaning of becoming unchained goddess.

  • The Power of Podcasting: Year One of My Journey in Crowned Opulence

Having a podcast, like anything in life, comes with both milestones to celebrate and challenges to overcome.  The Crowned Opulence podcast has been such a meaningful part of my personal and professional journey and has become integral in my daily life. Although I’ve dealt with some challenges,  it has made me wiser and stronger, and yes, even a better podcaster.

For most people who started a podcast recently, their show provided therapy during the time of the pandemic. However, most podcasters are unaware of the impact it can have with creating relevant content that helps establish a person’s brand and business.

That’s what created a podcast has done for me: it has provided me a platform to establish myself as a marketing and business strategist while also allowing me to tackle issues that most people often don’t talk about. Through the show, I’ve provided my gusts and myself a venue to discuss, learn, be inspired, and yes, even heal.

We experience different kinds of problems yet go through a similar experience.  So why not care to share your experience with the intention of inspiring and educating each other?

This podcast was made and continues to be a safe space to discover a new perspective and have an opportunity to get those questions answered without being judged. Every personal story shared and will continue to be shared is a chance to make someone feel a deeper sense of purpose and less alone in this world that can often disappoint you and make you feel lost.

Additionally, this show has now become a platform for me to empower black women to silence their self-doubts, own their opulence, and market their value so that they can create their tables in life and business.

I dedicate this episode to the show’s one-year anniversary! As a treat, I will share with you things I have learned about this journey - from inception to execution, and now having this wonderful platform for action, affirmation, activation and advocacy.

Get ready to listen and learn more from this episode!

  • Of Money, Wealth and Living Your Most Opulent Yet Authentic Life

If there’s one thing I will never stop advocating for, it’s about being unapologetically opulent and shedding a more positive light on what it means to be bougie.

The reason why I’m so adamant about this advocacy is because for me, it is an issue that runs so deep and is intertwined with race and equality.

If you’re an avid listener of the show (and thank you for that!), I always open each episode by throwing off this question that to me means so much more than an intriguing question. It’s actually my challenge to how society views not just women but black women specifically.

What is it about a woman being unapologetic about her dreams and her drive, operating excellence, and having high standards that people find so intimidating?

We can always write people off based on our superficial first impressions, that a woman wearing a Chanel perfume or carrying a Louis Vuitton bag is “materialistic” or shallow and only think about fashion or shopping. That is not only an incomplete observation - it is downright insulting.

Women know the value of hard work and attaining their dreams. We have the capacity to not just aspire but actually achieve. And enjoying the finer things in life and living our most opulent selves is the result of all our hard work and sacrifices. It’s just right that we enjoy it!

I hope you enjoy these six lessons I live by when it comes to money, building and managing wealth, and being our most opulent and authentic selves:

    • #1 - Educate yourself and have a deeper awareness if you want to really grow your wealth. (From Episode 6 - Beyond Your 401K)
    • #2 - Remove the guilt from having money, and let it flow to you freely! (From Episode 37 - What’s Your Relationship With Money?)
    • #3 - Stinge vs. Splurge: Find the right balance towards abundance and opulence. (From Episode 45 - Money Mindset – The Secret to Living a Financially Fulfilling Life)
    • #4 - Whatever you appreciate - just like money - appreciates! (From Episode 21 - 9 Opulent Steps)
    • #5 - Don't be ashamed about aspiring to be rich! Rich depends on how you define it. (From Episode 14 - Redefining Bougie)
    • #6 - Be unapologetic about your quest to be rich and live abundantly. (From Episode 36 - Be Unapologetically Opulent)

  • How to Stop Neglecting Your Overall Health

Why is it that when we want to take care of our health, it’s always too late?

This kind of flawed mindset is founded on the human desire to live forever - or at least for a long time. And we think that just because we desire it, it will happen. But that is never the case. In fact, even with the advent of scientific and technological advancements, we have stunted our ability to preserve our health simply because we are not careful about our lifestyle. We tend to abuse and overwork our minds and bodies, almost always to our detriment.

This week, I highlight some of the best lessons I’ve learned when it comes to my health and wellbeing. From respecting your body to knowing the purpose of your pain, having a deeper understanding of how your body works and how your lifestyle and mentality fit into the picture are such important aspects to learn.

Also, I am giving away an autographed copy of the soon-to-be-released book The Unchained Goddess that I co-authored.

You can enter multiple times and ways between now and September 17th.

    Good luck🥂

These are six things you need to take to heart in order to avoid neglecting your health:

    • #1 - Don't get buried under all those hats you're wearing - at the risk of overwhelming and overextending yourself! (From Episode 19 - I’m Not Your Superwoman)
    • #2 - Stop normalizing trauma and start talking about its impact - no matter how small or big it may be (From Episode 39 - Trauma from Black Mamas)
    • #3 - Quit trying to control everything and let your body take its natural course. (From Episode 7 - What Your Mama Never Told You About Menopause)
    • #4 - The journey to motherhood is just that a journey and everyone looks different. (From Episode 16 - Infertility Chose Me, But IVF Helped Me To Become A Mommy Part II)
    • #5 - Advocate for yourself.  No matter how many letters the doctor has after their name no one knows you better than you. (From Episode 8 - My Doctor Didn’t Help Me When Cancer Tried to Take Me Out Part I)
    • #6 - Recognize that your pain has a purpose and your story needs to be told so others too can survive. (From Episode 9 - My Doctor Didn’t Help Me When Cancer Tried to Take Me Out Part II)

  • Whys and Hows of Loving Yourself

If there’s one vital thing that the pandemic has shed light on, it’s the value of loving yourself and prioritizing your wellbeing. We have heard story after story of people outside or even within our circle - friends and loved ones - who were not able to deal with the impact of health scares, job loss, relational conflicts, and even loss of income.

In this episode, I want to emphasize self-love even more. People tend to discredit its value, often referring to it as a flimsy excuse to be selfish or self-absorbed. But when neglect of oneself turns to self-pity, and self-pity turns to chronic depression, this can even result in the grimmest of all eventualities: someone taking his or her own life.

We don’t even want to think about that worst-case scenario, however, it is a tragic possibility. This is why we need to remember these three whys and for hows when it comes to loving ourselves:

    The Whys: Love yourself because...

    • Your lifestyle is equally as important to your health as your genetics - so it still falls under choice! (From Episode 17 - From Thick to Fit)
    • Your flaws and imperfections are a part of who you are - it allows you to evolve and be better. (From Episode 3 - Get an Understanding of Yourself!)
    • You are perfect.  You are who you are because that's how God designed you. - or maybe this should be first? (From Episode 24 - Your Are Perfect!)

    The Hows: Love yourself by...

    • Staying in a high vibe through coming from a place of gratitude. (From Episode 31 - Mornings, Movement, and Mindfulness)
    • Using your judgment to protect yourself from something damaging. (From Episode 26 - Thriving After Narcissistic Abuse)
    • Creating self-care routines that don't have to break the bank. (From Episode 23 - Bringing Self-Care Into Your Everyday)
    • Practicing meditation to silence repetitive thoughts, restore balance, and stimulate healing. (From Episode 22 - Self-Love Is A Requirement)

  • How You Can Benefit from Hiring a Coach

    How important is mindset?

You’d be surprised that it is the difference-maker between maintaining your status - which is alright if you’ve got something good going for you - and taking what you have to the next level.

That’s what coaching can do for you. Contrary to popular misconception and belief, coaching isn’t about instantly changing your situation or bettering your circumstances - it doesn’t work like a magic potion. It simply doesn’t work that way.

Proper business, career, and life coaching are about growth. It’s about the process. It’s about a journey. Coaching helps build habits that lead to success and encourages you to take action that leads to personal and professional development.

Check out six ways you can benefit from hiring either a career or life - or both:

    • Benefit #1: Know your "why" and live out your truth. (From  Episode 38 - Identity Check)
    • Benefit #2: Learn from the real-life experience of your coach to help you sharpen your own gifts and talents and brace yourself for what lies ahead. (From Episode 50 - Grow Through the Fire)
    • Benefit #3: See a different perspective by taking stock of your past so you can enhance your path to the future. (From Episode 43 - How Your Experiences Growing Up Influences Who You Become)
    • Benefit #4: Set healthy boundaries for yourself and know your capacity - how much you can actually take on without burning out. (From Episode 47 - Do You Have The Capacity For That)
    • Benefit #5: Have the courage to plan and maintain that confidence even when things change. (From Episode 20 - Courage to Change)
    • Benefit: Map out your path to achieving your dreams - and actually pushing through with it! (From Episode 25 - Pursuing Your Dream)
