The God-Pleasing Prayer of the Suffering Righteous - Psalm 141

How easy is it for believers to lose sight of pleasing God in times of suffering? Psalm 141, a psalm of David, was written during a time when he endured the wickedness of his enemies. Instead of responding in kind, he sought to offer God an acceptable prayer. In the midst of near-death suffering, David prayed that God would keep him from sinning and relied fully on God’s deliverance. His example reminds us that the righteous must still seek to please God in suffering by praying for purity and trusting in His deliverance.In Christ, the Righteous One, who never sinned against God, even to the point of death, and fully entrusted Himself to the Father, we find the perfect model of prayer in suffering. How, then, can we offer an acceptable prayer before God when trials come?

A True Christian Fellowship - 1 John 1

Pay Attention of What You have Heard - Hebrews 2:1-4

Why is it necessary to pay attention to the message of salvation? After the first chapter of Hebrews declared the supremacy of the Son over the angels, the author exhorted the believers not to drift away but to pay close attention to what they had already heard (v. 1). The passage warns that if every act of disobedience to the law, given through the angels received just retribution, how much more serious are the consequences of neglecting the message spoken through the Son (v. 2). This message of salvation was first spoken by the Lord, attested by those who heard Him, and validated by God, making it essential to give it our full attention (vv. 3-4).

How important is credibility for effective gospel ministry? Acts 20:17-38 contains Paul's farewell speech to the Ephesian Elders. His goal was to persuade them to be faithful in shepherding the churches in Ephesus. However, Paul relied on his proven track record of faithful ministry and integrity for the Ephesian Elders to take heed of his admonition. Therefore, if we are to be effective in calling others to live for the Gospel, we should have the credibility and integrity.

God Preserved Us - Psalm 124

Sometimes, we mindlessly think to ourselves that we have been preserved from all our troubles solely because of our own efforts. However, David, in Psalm 124, attributed his being preserved to the Lord, who made the heavens and earth. He humbly acknowledged that his troubles were stronger than him, so he humbly acknowledged that the Lord was the one who kept him. Thus, he boldly declared that the Lord was his all-powerful help. Boast Only in the Cross - Galatians 6:11-18

Why should we boast on the cross instead of the things of the world? Instead of simply giving his benediction, which he usually did in the last part of his letters, Paul took the time to summarize what he has been harping on in his entire letter to the Galatians. In Galatians 6:11-18, he somewhat explained that understanding the Gospel will make one understand that what matters is not having the world, and boasting on it, but being a new creation. And since through the cross alone and nothing else made him a new creation, he boasted only on it.

Believers, Do Good! - Galatians 6:6-10

Why is it important for believers to do good? In Galatians 6:6-10, Paul explained the necessity for believers to do good. He made it plain that God knows that His people who are bound to fully enjoy eternal life, will yield to the Spirit who leads them to do good to everyone, especially to those who are in the faith. Therefore, those who truly are in Christ should seize every opportunity to do good.

How to Love Our Weak and Sinning Brother - Galatians 6:1-5

Unfortunately, most church members end up criticizing a sinning brother instead of being willing to go through the pain of restoring him. After emphasizing that a believer should no longer work for his own righteousness but be free to love others through the Holy Spirit, Paul taught on how to apply such love to a sinning brother. In particular, he commanded that those who are spiritual should work on the restoration of the brother in gentleness and holiness. However, only when one truly loves his sinning brother can he truly bear his brother’s burden. By the manner with which Paul wanted believers to restore a sinning brother, we learn that it must be reflective of how Christ bore our sins.

How does Scripture declare the supremacy of the Son? Having established the person and work of Jesus as the fullness of God’s glory and the fulfillment of God’s promise, the writer of Hebrews further escalates the revelation of the Son. Hebrews 1:5-9 shows us the supremacy of the Son both in position and power. Using several passages from the Old Testament, it unfolds that Christ is the eternal Son of God who is worthy of worship and exaltation. We can see that all throughout Scripture, the supremacy of the Son is revealed.

Why did sin and death come through one man, and how can life and righteousness come through another? Romans 5:12–19 shows us how, because of Adam’s disobedience, sin entered the world, but also, through Jesus Christ’s absolute obedience, the entry of the undeserved grace of God was made possible, offering new life. "But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many." (Romans 5:15)
