Will and George take some time off from crime to take in a night of boxing. It turns out to be a combination reunion and busman's holiday. On the fighter's is an old school friend of Will's. His opponent? He's dead. But how? He was in full view of a room full of people. When Will's friend's trainer also dies under mysterious circumstances, Will knows he has to figure out all of the Ws before the friend is the next victim.

When is a murder not a murder? When it's a carefully staged plot to blackmail an innocent victim. Will and Frances do the right thing and bring it to George and the LAPD's hottest shot, a Bunco cop named Paul Halloran. But was it the right thing? Will's brother, Lieutenant George Ruby of the Los Angeles Police Department Homicide Division, is very stressed. He's the chairman of the LAPD's annual fundraiser for underprivileged youth. The event, a costume ball with a star-studded guest list, has to be a success for the Commissioner. The last thing George needs is a murder in the middle of the event, but he gets one - and the victim is the Commissioner's wife. Why? Who? How? Will and Frankie jump in to assist, but the answers are more complicated than George can imagine.

It turns out to be very good luck for the winery owners that the Ruby brothers and Frankie got there first.
