The Mets will begin the second half of their season tomorrow night versus the Los Angeles Dodgers with Justin Verlander set to take the hill. The club was not however expecting to be staring down an 18.5 deficit in the NL East nor being 7 games behind the final wild card spot, but here they are at 42-48.

We dive into some of the keys entering the second half, identify some areas of improvement as well as players who have to step up if the club plans to contend.

The odd 2023 New York Mets season continued this past week as the boys returned home from their poor road trip and excited us all by sweeping the Phillies then drained us all by getting swept by the Blue Jays. The offense has gone MIA unless your name is Starling Marte and Mark Canha...weird times. We can only hope they can get more consistent and right the ship - the Braves, Pirates and Yankees are looming...#LGM.

Starting pitching is improving but the club may be dealing with a Tylor Megill issue now as he's managed to accumulate just 7.2 IP over his last two starts combined; discuss what's plaguing Big Drip. We discuss the aforementioned poor play as well as talk and give opinions on what was a memorable and hopefully season-altering series win for the club vs Tampa. We'll additionally chop it up about the dominance we saw on display from Kodai Senga, the impact the "Baby Mets" are having on the squad as well as how each of us would construct the current lineup given the new additions to the active roster (which now also includes Gary Sanchez). Recorded May 9th (Pre-Scherzer Scratch)

At 17-18, the Mets have lost 11 of their last 14 and are entering a three game set beginning tonight in Cincinnati. Max Scherzer who was scheduled to pitch tonight was scratched due to neck spasms hours after recording, David Peterson filled in horribly. The rotation in general is in shambles ranking 27th in the bigs as their starters are averaging 4.1 IP per start, a collective 5.34 ERA (24th) while allowing the third most home runs in baseball with 28. In addition to the rotation, we discuss the impact the lack of length provided by the starters is having on the bullpen as well as discussing the current state of confidence we have in what has been an inconsistent offense thus far.

We touch upon the few bright spots in Brett Baty & Francisco Alvarez as well as Bid Adieu to Mets Legend Matt Harvey who announced his retirement over the weekend.
