  • What Did We Say?

Only his mother and Micky D., call Lol, Laurence
Budgie posits, Micky D., polished the shoes on the tour bus
Were the banshees upset when Robert left the Banshees?
What would have happened - had that not happened?

    Strangeness in the Studio
Robert there, but not there - nothing was said there.
Bobby Keys only for Hyaena - It was a long album.
    Bob’s position was untenable.

Ideal of the band was primo important to Lol
    Post Pornography Chemistry Dysfunction (PPCD)
Lol went to Cadaques with a French girl
    They had a cat on a lead – Dali-esque.

Hyaena and The Top, released simultaneously!
The Top was restful - Japanese Whispers – was a fitting title
Budgie visited the filming of The Walk video and most Cure videos
Did Severin want Robert to remain a Banshee?

Lisa from Newcastle carved the Fish guitar .
Budgie spots the Cure constant – (?)
Pornography was the pinnacle of the 3-piece Cure
Budgie recalls Robert and sister Janet sitting side-by-side
Recording the harpsichord for Dear Prudence

Songs built from Jams - until they’re not.
    Did the Banshees change Robert
    or did Robert just change?
Where The Banshees always a 3-piece at heart?

    “What did we say Budgie?”
“I dunno’ what did we say Lol?”
“We said, what we said, is what we said.”
    “’Nuff said then…”

  • Graham Elliot: Master Chef Extraordinaire

    Pulling Back the Curtain:

    Spicy…
Lollapalooza and President Obama, all Presidents want to be chefs,
All chefs want to be rock stars, do all Presidents want to be rock stars?
Why is going to shows no Fun anymore?
We stand at the turning point, no longer second guessing.
Lol reveals the live ‘Holy Hour’ bell is the sound from the record

    Sweet….
The Art of Cooking as a Creative force,
Do chefs perform their big culinary hits like, ‘Sea-Urchin Ice Cream?’
How do we balance the set list?
    We are just a conduit – it’s a 50/50 thing!

    Salty…
We don’t have a menu, you eat what we like,
our set-lists as menu full of question marks.
Bring your friends for the gateway drug!

    Savoury…
The Banshees were the only Brits on the First Lollapalooza
Graham wasn’t running the catering then, but The Banshees had bread and butter backstage,
The Butthole Surfers had only beer!
Is it the place or the food Ingredients that make the Experience?
Is it the sunshine and stuff?

    Sizzling…
Graham feeds 500,000 for Obamas 49th birthday party,
That’s 495,000 more than Jesus had to cater for!
The Secret (Silver) Service, tasted everything,
Obama took a Selfie with all the catering crew!

    Sugary...
To make beautiful pictures, learn the rules, then throw them all away
Today’s chefs are a little less crazy - a small restaurant with simple food,
Fine dining or a head-like-a-hole-in-the-wall pasta place?
The show is everything, simple but satisfying.

    Smoking…
Lol and Budgie threw away all the usual ingredients to make something unique and exciting.
We gave each other the permission to throw the baby out with the bath water – Haha!
Only a few blue angels and one astronaut have the know-how!
The hardest thing to do, is to make or do the best one can,
that says, this is who I am. (Thank you, Graham.)

Raise your Forks to: La Grande Bouffe (1973) Directed by Marco Ferreri - Music: Philip Sarde.
“Decadent, Self-Loathing, Cynical and Frequently Obscene” – in short perfect!

  • Justin Pearson Pt. 2: Straight Edge Foodies

    Landscape redefined by skateboarder Mason,
Silva planned routines to Budgies drums
It’s the space outside of the sound we’re chasin’
Cinematic for the Banshees and their chums

    Images influenced the sounds created
    Alfred Hitchock - Suburban Relapse
The shower scene in Psycho, a shrine, gold-plated
    Herrmann’s score hitting every synapse.

(Pause – aka: dead airtime – but not this time!)

Charlie Mingus stressed the import of the notes un-played,
PJ Harvey finds inspiration in a place un-stayed.
Justin always hears sweet music in the rattle of his car
Familiar London Studios became unfamiliar from afar.

The Creatures flew to Hawaii, to record their debut,
the jungle fed the music, and the conch shell blew.
Victor Boullet played Metallica to get The Creatures mad,
Ross Robinson and Simon came close to something very bad!

“No Hi-hat!” ordered Siouxsie, “No Hairspray in my mix!”
Budgie moved the hi-hat out but played with magic sticks,
Creating things from nothing was our drumming bird’s propensity,
His Drumming in the Dreamhouse throbbed with LSD intensity

Justin and DMT experiment, Lol and Budgie too,
Budgie, Lol and Justin want healthy things to chew.
Post-abuse bodies may have survived, but some Brain tissue did not
Justin’s Pre-show ritual is a strong expresso shot!

On Reflections, Simon said to Lol, “Lol you’re very Zen.”
Lol reflected soberly, “How weird it is to ken.”
Proficiency is priority, you have to love yourself,
The secret door out of the maze - is the one that’s marked ‘Good Health!’

Q: Was this the longest recording for Curious Creatures?
A: You bet your sweet bippy it was!

The pause is cool and beautiful and weird.
And we may have a dinner date in San Diego!

In Awe of: ‘Psycho’ (1960) Directed by Alfred Hitchcock - Music: Bernard Herrmann.

  • Justin Pearson: The Decline of Western Civilization?

He’s a reasonable Philatelist, Not an Apathetic Nihilist
He’s a Dead Cross massive influence for The Locust,
He’s a Wild scene Iguana, No Tequila in Tijuana!
He just picked up the monitor and tore off his thumb

4 pm is an angry time for NIN to be on stage
The Opposite of Love Is Apathy, Not Nihilism or Rage
When Lol saw the same back in 76 and 77
He went down to his local pub to meet people already in Heaven.
Love on one hand and Hate on the other, Apathy doesn’t fit
Punk to Drunk, Humanity can’t govern, What else to do with it?
The Decline of Western civilization, Bill Grundy, and the Bromley Contingent
Second World War imagery, Notting Hill Gate carnival, Reaction for Attention.

Weird Energy, No guitar solos, Wire 12XU delivery!
Goth and double kicks, Robotic drumming and Gypsy Eyes thievery!
    Succinct at 17, Eye-catching at 18, Noticed at 19, Twisted at 20.
Self-imposed boundaries, strange beats and Tones
We made sound into pop songs, We embraced our limitations

    What were your influences?
Skateboarding culture and Siouxsie Sioux, as a pioneer of gender equality for Justin.
Lol had Sylvia Plath to inform his thinking as a young man discovering how to play.
Female singers, and female musicians helped Budgie’s evolution.

How does it make you feel?
Boys Don’t Cry was a strange thing for Justin as a child.
Important to deal with toxic masculinity.

Be ahead of yourself, say what’s wrong, do what’s right,
Female musicians still have to fight.
We remain Grateful for what happened on the planet
Just after Sergeant Pepper taught the band to play…

Remembering: ‘Gypsy Eyes’ Recorded: May – August 1968 by, The Jimi Hendrix Experience
