Giveaways are great at quickly building a big list. But the list quality will not be too high, if you're not careful with the actual prizes you are giving away.

Just because someone gives you an email in return for something free, doesn't mean they're the best prospect for your business.

For Giveaways to work, you have to give away something of really high perceived value. Simply giving away ebooks and reports and online courses are not going to cut it.

A typical landing page where the only goal is to get an email signup, is called a squeeze page. I guess the idea is that you're trying to squeeze the email id out of a visitor.

Instead, what if you switched it around? Create a landing page, which offers some value right away. Like, the first part of a multi-part video series where they can learn something right away, before committing to even something as simple as giving you an email id.

I prefer 3 types of magnets over a webinar, every single time.

NOT because webinars are bad, or because most webinars suck, but because webinars are really not the best for the top of the funnel - as in, cold traffic, which means people who don't know/like/trust you just yet.

Podcasts have gotten huge, because people can listen to them on their own time, because they don't have to sit in front of a computer to do it, they can pause and rewind and fast-forward and even skip entire episodes if they want to. A webinar is a lead magnet - you give them value, they give you their email id. Video is great at building rapport, and much more fun than a boring PDF report.

So that's really what your webinar should be: Packed with great value, VERY little fluff, then you make an offer at the end. Doesn't HAVE to be an obnoxious sales pitch, but there absolutely needs to be a call-to-action.
