There was a huge launch recently by a big-name marketer, well, at least he was a big name in the past. The idea is basically, do a big launch, create fake scarcity by saying you are going to shut down sales of the product for the rest of the year.

Fake scarcity, extreme hype, barrage of emails, unethical offers - this type of overaggressive, overly-hyped, sleazy marketing probably worked in the early 2000's. But it just won't fly today.

Whether you're doing a YouTube video, podcast, writing a blog post, or a Kindle book, you need content ideas.

You can create how-to content based on that information, use it for an FAQ, as in, frequently asked questions, you can use it for your Instagram and Facebook live and non-live videos, use it in your webinars, have a User Questions section on your podcast, or do an "AMA", or Ask Me Anything episode, use it to create the TOC for your Kindle book, or online course.

People will stand in line for 3 days to get an iPhone. Stand in line for weeks to get concert tickets. Line up for days to get into the mall first on Black Friday. Spend thousands of dollars on stuff they don't really need. Maybe they want it, but don't need it. You don't need a new iPhone every year. Or even every 2 years.

So in the end, it all comes down to this...

What seems like just a few years ago, there were gatekeepers for media.

If you wanted to publish a book, you had to get accepted by a book publisher.

If you wanted to have your own radio show, you needed an actual radio station.

If you wanted your own TV show, you had to wait for a Cable TV network to sign you.

But now, the gatekeepers are gone. Diminished. Destroyed. Disappeared.

Authenticity is a word that's thrown around a little too casually these days on social media. There's a general misconception that authenticity means you express every thought, feeling, emotion and event in your life in an unfiltered way to your followers. Now, some of that is valid.
