Our party discovers that Ellywick's soul is now residing within the gauntlet Nikolas made to suppress the ice blight cursing her. Ben believed it was in everyone's best interest to keep Elly with her party in hopes she could be brought back, so Verity was entrusted with her friend's arcane tether. 

Once back in the ballroom, Atlas's midnight speech was interrupted by the assailant, a possessed Tomas! He brought forth a portal between the material plane and the Shadowfell so the party crashers could do just that. The battle that ensued was not without loss, as dozens upon dozens of lives were lost, including Atlas's fiance-to-be, Raffael. However, Ariana had other plans when she cast a new, unique spell to return and restore Raff's life force. But at what cost?

Taabi, a nomadic Tabaxi, who will do anything to survive, and seeks the secrets of the dead. Brilia, a former housewife turned adventurer who learned her warlock abilities to protect her partner, Kos.

The party make their appearance at the Masquerade Ball, in honour of Emperor Atlas’s secret love, Raffael. The Royal Court brings as much drama as expected, with an old friend of Verity warning of an impending assassination attempt. Taabi is surprised to find a familiar Tabaxi face working as entertainment at the ball, and the group finally finds Elly, although the reunion was much colder than they had hoped! Will the Masquerade Ball the end of the line for Arsen, Verity and Emperor Atlas?

Last week on Darkness and Dragons; The party met Lady Elaine who helped them prepare to infiltrate a Mascarade Ball, in honour of Emperor Atlas’s secret love, Raffael. Finally zeroing in one Elly’s location, the group chooses their outfits, strategies and who will arrive with whom. Tiffania and Ariana buy puppies; Arsen and Verity discuss how they will present as fiancees; Brilia and Kos enjoy each other’s outfits; and Taabi worries about how the human nobles will treat a Tabaxi in their midst.

The party begins their three week journey from the Golden Academy to Carquette. After practicing their skills, they arrive in Braespa where they are shocked to find The Unseen former rebels acting in a peculiar manner. Instead of planning the next steps of the rebellion Tiff, Lien, Carmen and Everette are now heavily invested in farming and having guests over for dinner. 

 

After some clever investigation (and some unsuccessful flirting), it becomes clear that the rebels are not themselves! After being attacked by Doppelgangers in a shed, the party uncovers the true rebel leaders in cages underground. Learning that they were sent to reduce Atlas’ allies by Verity’s aunt Ondrea (through Nikolas Faulkner), the group resists the urge to kill the last Doppelganger until they get all the information possible out of her.

The adventurers arrive at the Golden Academy in hopes of stocking up on some powerful spellbooks. Knowing they are less than welcome, the group attempts to disguise Ariana. Although they make it to the library unscathed, Ariana's disguise quickly unravels when she meets an old friend, Padem. Kos and Brilla meet a new and elf 'friend', who has a distressing fascination with tieflings.

 

Meanwhile, Ariana and Padem are confronted by a University Official who orders Ariana to speak to the higher ups. After trying unsuccessfully to flee, the group meet by Headmaster Krivi, who confronts the crew about Ariana’s debt and admits to assisting a fleeing Cade. Krivi agrees to let the party leave with their books in exchange for the Arsen’s Bucket of Rubies TM and the promise of other items of value that belonged to Cade and might still be inside the castle walls.

Mistress Ferr presents Ariana with a mysterious tooth to help her connect with Vecna. Verity says farewell to her estranged brother and before the party makes their way to the Fortress of Memories to face the will of the Raven Queen. The team helps comfort souls as they departed the Shadowfell and transitioned to what lies beyond. 

 

Each party member offers up a powerful memory The Raven Queen for safe passage, causing everyone to share in each other’s pain. Once emotionally drained, they enter the fortress where Lenore meets The Raven Queen for the first time. The party learns about a curse that afflicts Lenore and all Shadar Kai, and are confronted by its physical manifestation on her body. The Raven Queen promises to ease the curse by sharing it among others, leaving Lenore, Brillia and Kos uniting their souls to lighten Lenore's burden.

 

Tabbi gets a glimpse into the fate of his father through the voice of a raven which gives him some small comfort. Finally the party returns to the Material Plane and parts ways with their new friend and planar tour guide, Fennir.

The party decided to venture to the Feywild to gain strength to fight former-Emperor Cade. Unfortunately the Raven Queen had other plans. Through divine intervention, our adventurers found themselves in the dark and depressing wasteland that is Shadowfell. There they were met by a few old faces and new. Finding sanctuary at the Red Rake (run by Mistress Ferr), Verity got a shock when coming face to face with someone she never thought she'd see again.

The adventures caused more than a few fires- both literally and figuratively speaking- as they successfully reunited the Hillgaurd family. Taabi and Brillia were made aware of both Arsen and Verity’s royal heritage through a gossip collum delivered by a peppy new friend, Fennir. Fennir also brought news from "Carrotcake" delivering a sticky letter from their estranged party member Elly. 

The party are beginning to recognise the urgency to face the mess they left behind in Caraquette and the impact the political turmoil is having on lands around it. A folk in the road presented itself and some party members struggled to choose which path to take. What lies ahead, the uncertainty of the Feywild or a journey back to lost allies and loose ends?

The adventurers split the party...again! Brillia, Arsen and Lenore chased after an emotional Vertity while Tabbi, Kos and Arriana prepared to integrate the Hilligaurd Family.

Verity stumbled upon some creepy death hags on her rage walk and was almost tricked into making a deadly decision. Back at the bar Arriana and Tabbi played good cop furry cop and managed to uncover the family's connection to a corpse snatching resurrection cult. Lenore, Arsen and Brillia caught up to Verity and dispelled the hags tickery with a well placed zone of truth.

After a quick boink across the head the adventurers dragged the unconscious hags back to the bar to compare their findings. The party put hag and cult together and used locate object to find the missing Hillgaurd sibling as well as the stoney reanimation of Lord Hillgaurd’s corpse.

The party were confronted with a moral dilemma when they discovered the corpse snatcher's intentions were not as sinister as they had originally assumed.

The Shady Bunch picked up where they left off, investigating the missing corpse of Lord Hillguard. Arinna charmed the townsfolk, uncovering some helpful DNA evidence while Lenore and Arsen batted heads and noticed some suspicious behaviour from the youngest Hillguard sibling. Verity discovered a photograph depicting a mysterious fourth Hillguard child which led the party to investigate the towns ‘Wall of memory’. Brillia imparted some celestial wisdom to Verity and gave us a glimpse of her own troubled past. The adventures prepared for a murder mystery style interrogation and Arsen enlisted the musical stylings of Tabbi to serenade Verity and finally confessing his love.
