  • DMN E17 - The Neverending Story
Pete and Brian get to watch one of the greatest neverending stories ever. The Neverending Story has the catchiest song that will get stuck in your head forever.... If you don't believe me just YouTube the techno remix version that Brian used to work out to.
Bastian runs away from his problems and locks himself in the creepiest attic I've ever seen in a school so he can read a book that "isn't safe". We had a ton of fun with this one.

  • DMN - E15 The Secret of NIMH
We finally did an animated movie from our youth! The Secret of NIMH is based on the children's book Mrs. Frisby and the rates of NIMH but for some strange reason they decided to change the name of Mrs. Frisby to Mrs. Brisby (Brian shakes head in bewilderment as to why...) This movie is an underrated gem of storytelling for kids but don't think you're in for an epic tale across lands far and unknown. It all takes place inside about a half-acre of land on a farm.

  • DMN E14- The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Pete and Brian picked a WINNER!! Pete was worried that after two weeks of movies that were more WTF than FTW, we get to watch the amazing adventures of Robo Cop delivering soothing serenades to the adopted twin sister of his dead ex-wife (She's gone now....) and no movie is complete without performances from Jeff Goldblum, Christopher Llyod, and Robo Cop... I mean Peter Weller with hair.
Everyone gets to hold Buckroo's oscillation overthruster in this one...

  • DMN E13 - Pet Sematary
When you remember a movie as being really scary as a kid, make sure it's not because you owned a shitty cat. That might cloud your memory. . . just a bit. . . or a lot.
Pete and Brian delve into the horror masterpiece Pet Sematary. We are using our own definition of 'masterpiece' for this episode.

  • DMN E12 - The Dark Crystal
Pete and Brian dive into the 1982 Jim Henson "classic?" The Dark Crystal. Pete thought he loved this movie as a child. Did he really? Or, was there so much nightmare fuel in this movie to suppress watching it just a few years ago with his wife? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm m m mmmmm mmm m
"This movie is skeksist" - Brian

  • DMN E11 - Real Genius
Was college really like that? In more ways than you can imagine...yes. yes it was. With popcorn to boot. Join Pete and Brian as they discuss one of Brian's favorite movies from his childhood starring Val Kilmer, Real Genius. This romping escapade has everything a 15yr old boy genius would hope to expect from life on a college campus...even 'almost' beauticians.

  • DMN - E10 Weird Science
We've got bras on our head, Let's do this! Pete and Brian watch 1985's Weird Science. There were some laughs, chuckles, and good times walking down memory lane with this one.

  • DMN E9- Time Bandits
Wow... this one is weird...and dark. Pete and Brian delve into the twisted dream of a young boy named Kevin. But it's not a dream? There is a time map, a gang of little people, Napoleon speaks English, Agamemnon speaks English (with a Scottish accent via Sean Connery), Evil is an awesome character, the best portrayal of Robin Hood ever (John Cleese).
Honestly this movie was all over the map (see what we did there?). I'm actually a little scared to go to sleep tonight.

  • DMN-E8 The Lost Boys
One of Brian's absolute favorite movies of all time. The Lost Boys is a teenage vampire dream that doesn't suck (see what we did there?), it blows you away like a sexy saxophonist.

About Dad's Movie Night

From the publisher's feed

Three dads watching movies from our youth and trying to figure out if they hold up, should they be rebooted, and... should we force our kids to eventually watch them.
