It dawned on me

Examples:

Blindsided

means to be strongly surprised — often emotionally — by something you never expected. 

Examples

1- We were completely blindsided by the company’s decision to shut down the department. There was no warning — it felt like the floor was pulled from under us.

2- I was blindsided — in the best possible way — when the podcast suddenly reached thousands of listeners last week. I checked the numbers twice… and I just felt deeply grateful.

Catch up on sleep

 to get extra rest after not sleeping enough for some time—to slowly recover what your body has missed.

Examples:

1-  After working late all week, she finally used the weekend to catch up on sleep and felt like herself again.

2- She felt overwhelmed emotionally, but after catching up on sleep, she realized she didn’t need more strength—she needed more rest.

Put things into perspective

means: to step back and look at a situation more calmly and realistically, instead of only through the emotions of the moment.

Examples:

1- When she made a mistake during her presentation, she felt terrible — until she put it into perspective and remembered that one bad moment wouldn’t define her career.

2-  She felt anxious about a decision, but after asking herself how she would feel about it in the long run, she put it into perspective and found calm.

Let it sink in

means to give yourself time to fully understand or emotionally absorb something important.

Examples:

1- When she finally heard someone say “I’m proud of you,” she didn’t reply immediately. She smiled softly and let it sink in.

2- He had waited so long for good news that when the doctor finally said, “You’re going to be okay,” he just stayed silent and let it sink in.

Make the most of it

means using the time, situation, or opportunity in the best possible way while it lasts.It doesn’t mean rushing. 

Examples:

1- They had only one hour together each night before falling asleep, so instead of scrolling through their phones, they talked and truly listened. They made the most of that quiet time.

2- She didn’t love her job, but she realized it was giving her skills she could use later—so instead of waiting for the perfect position, she made the most of where she was.

You snooze, you lose

means if you wait or hesitate, you may miss an opportunity.
Examples:

1- She always wanted to tell her father how much she appreciated him, but she kept waiting for the perfect moment — and when she finally tried, it was too late. You snooze, you lose.
2- He had a brilliant business idea but hesitated out of fear, and months later someone else launched exactly the same thing. You snooze, you lose.

Hit home

 means to strongly affect someone emotionally because it feels real, relatable, or true to their personal experience. 

Examples:

1- Her speech about burnout really hit home — I realized I’ve been ignoring my own limits.
2- When she whispered, “I haven’t felt truly seen in years,” it hit home. I realized how many people live feeling invisible.

 means to feel relaxed, comfortable, safe, and not worried.

Examples:

Grow out of it

means to stop doing something as you mature or evolve.

Examples:

1- I used to keep my work quiet because I thought nobody cared. But I’ve grown out of playing small. Now I share my voice confidently.

2- I questioned myself all the time, wondering if I was good enough.
 But I’ve grown out of that — I trust my skills and the value I bring.
