It couldn't be better
Things are going extremely well. I’m very happy with how things are.
Example:
Imagine you run into an old friend at a café.
You haven’t seen each other in years.
After catching up for a few minutes, you ask,
“So, how’s the new job?”
Your friend smiles and says,
“Honestly, it couldn’t be better. I love the work, my coworkers are amazing, and I’m learning something new every day.”

To say the least
mean: What I just said is actually an understatement. The reality was even more extreme.
Example:
Imagine you’re watching your favorite team play in a championship final.
The game goes into extra time, and the winner is decided in the very last minute.
Afterward, someone asks how you felt.
You say:
“It was stressful, to say the least.”
You’re letting people know the stress was intense.

Nothing beats
Nothing is better than…
We use this expression when we want to say that something is our absolute favorite or that nothing else compares to it.
Example:
Imagine it’s Saturday morning after a busy week at work.
Your friend asks,
“Any plans for today?”
You stretch, smile, and say:
“Honestly, nothing beats sleeping in on a Saturday morning.”
You’re saying that, for you, few things are more enjoyable than getting extra sleep after a long week.

More often than not
Usually. Most of the time.
It’s a slightly more advanced way of saying usually, and it’s very common in both spoken and written English.
Example:
Imagine your friend is terrified of speaking English.
Before every conversation, they expect people to laugh at their mistakes.
You encourage them by saying:
“More often than not, people are happy that you’re making the effort to speak their language.”
In other words, most people appreciate the effort rather than judging it.

What has become normal
Think back five years.
What felt impossible then?
Now ask yourself another question.
What feels completely normal today that once seemed extraordinary?

Nobody Has It All Figured Out
Have you ever looked around and thought,
“Everyone else seems to have life figured out except me.”
They know what career they want.
They know how to raise children.
They know how to manage money.
They seem confident.
Meanwhile, you’re still questioning your decisions.
If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone.

It goes a long way
A small action has a much bigger positive effect than you might expect.
Example:
Imagine you’re starting a new job.
On your first day, a colleague takes a few minutes to show you around the office and introduce you to everyone.
It doesn’t take much time.
But it makes you feel welcome immediately.
You could say:
“That small act of kindness really went a long way.”

Have a change of heart
A change in your feelings, opinion, or decision about something.
Example:
Imagine your friend invites you on a weekend trip.
At first, you say no because you're tired and want to stay home.
But the next morning, you start thinking about how much fun it might be.
You call your friend and say:
"I've had a change of heart. I'd love to come."

A reality check
An experience or piece of information that makes you see a situation more realistically.
Example:
Imagine someone starts their first job after university.
They expect to immediately get exciting projects, earn a high salary, and move up quickly.
But their first few months involve routine tasks, long days, and a lot of learning.
They might say:
"My first few months at work were a real reality check."

That being said
Even though what I just said is true, I also want to add another point that may contrast with it.
Example:
1- Imagine you’re talking to a friend about a new job.
You say:
“The hours are long, and the work can be stressful.”
But you also genuinely enjoy what you do.
So you add:
“That being said, I’m learning a lot, and I’m really glad I took the job.”

On weekends, we slow down. Through ideas from psychology, philosophy, and real human experience, we explore language as a way to better understand life, emotions, identity, and growth.
This podcast is created by Jale, an English teacher with 13 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in English language and literature based in Canada, who teaches with patience, clarity, and care, and believes learning works best when students feel seen, respected, and safe to think aloud.
The goal is simple but meaningful: to help you understand English deeply, use it confidently, and connect it to your real life. English here is not just a skill. It’s a gentle companion for clearer thinking, honest expression, and deeper human connection.
