As it turns out 

 We use “as it turns out” when we reveal the truth or final result of a situation—especially when it is different from what we originally believed or expected.

Example:

Imagine you meet someone at a friend’s birthday dinner.

They barely speak, give short answers, and seem serious the entire evening.

You assume they are unfriendly or in a bad mood.

A few weeks later, you meet them again in a smaller group. This time, they are relaxed, funny, and easy to talk to.

You could say: “I thought she was a little grumpy. As it turns out, she was just shy around new people.”

That's a story for another day

It means: “I’ll tell you about it another time because it’s too long, too complicated, or not relevant right now.”

Example:

Imagine someone asks:

“What was the hardest part about leaving your home country?”

You take a quiet breath and reply:

“That’s a story for another day.”

Chances are 

means something is probably true or likely to happen.

Example

Imagine you’ve applied for a job, but you haven’t received an answer yet.

You start thinking:

“They probably didn’t like my application.”

Your friend tells you:

“Don’t worry. Chances are, they’re still interviewing other candidates.”

Your friend doesn’t know this for certain.

But based on the situation, it seems like the most likely explanation.

Truth be told

It means: “To be honest.” “If I’m being completely honest.”

Example:

 Imagine a friend asks, “Do you enjoy working from home?” You think for a moment and reply,

“Truth be told, I miss seeing people every day.” You aren’t just giving a polite answer. You’re sharing how you genuinely feel.

Here's the thing

It means: “Let me explain the most important part of the situation.”

Example:

Imagine your friend asks,

“Why don’t you just quit your job if you don’t enjoy it?”You reply,

“Here’s the thing… I don’t hate my job. I just know I want something different in the future.”

You aren’t disagreeing.

You’re simply explaining the bigger picture.
