I am currently reading a great story about Theodore Roosevelt when he descended the River of Doubt through the Amazon Jungle. He was on the very first expedition by explorers that were not native to that area.
The trials and surprises of going into a hostile environment with no prior knowledge or possible way to prepare, is staggering to say the least. No less challenging is when I hear today of someone who is determined to explore unknown territory of the mind, beliefs and having the courage to become something they have never been before.
My story began with a heart attack. Every inspired step has produced a piece that has added credibility and adventure to my story. It’s definitely not done, but I am quite pleased with how it is progressing.
One of our live participants today, Daniel, was drafted after high school graduation and served in the military for 2 years during the Vietnam war. Every choice, every experience is training for who we are becoming.
There are multiple stories of individuals committed to freedom who shaped the America we live in today. I am so grateful for people who are committed to their values. I respect the never-say-die determination it takes to create a foundation of freedom for a country, a family or a life of purpose.
Our story is something we will take with us when we leave this earth. Phil, on our call shared a thought that he had of sharing our stories with the Angels, friends who have gone on before.
Our pain and struggle on earth is but a moment. The memory of the hardship is just that, a memory. The glory and honor of finishing lasts an eternity., and will be talked about by the angels of heaven. The regret of succumbing to fear equally as long-lasting.
“If you live up to your privileges, the angels cannot be restrained from being your associates” -Joseph Smith, first prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
It is possible that those who have gone on before can literally get behind us, and support us with invisible strength that takes us beyond human capacity.
Michael reminded us on our call today, that our Savior was the greatest story-teller.
Stories help us put ourselves in the place of the hero, the villain or the advocate. Regardless of where we are in our journey, we can find something to relate to in the story. And the beautiful thing about stories is they can be re-told again and again.
Each time, we find ourselves in a new position, because of our choices and growth. Regardless of where we are today, or how we see ourselves, we truly are the hero of our own story.
