I am stepping in for Pastor Toby, well...because he is a Pastor first. 

Friends of the show. Before I get started, I want to bring you backstage behind the CrossPolitic scenes on some things. We started CrossPolitic in 2016, and never could have imagined the world we are living in now. Men can magically become penguins...I mean women...I mean uh democrats are going insane, abortion is infrastructure, and conservatives are racist because we think voter ID is a good thing. The left/right divide use to be cordial, but now it has entered into Cold War era. You see this in cancel culture, the sexualization of politics (thinking of required cake baking scenarios), and partisan voting fraud investigations. And now that cancel culture has leaped from the government/university setting into the business world, the cold war is shifting into gorilla games. I am grateful for the voice God has given CrossPolitic, and I hope God continues to bless the road we are on. Our goal for CrossPolitic and the network is really two fold: First is to speak with courage the truth in such away that it creates space for you to do the same. Courage begets courage, and when we push back effectively that creates room for thriving Christian communities to grow. This is what it means to fight wolves is to create room for the sheep to run, to eat, and to sleep, so we hope we are doing this at a national level for you. Our second goal is to create a thriving Chrisitan economy. We have mentioned before, that the Babylon Bee was canceled from Mailchimp’s services, Trump was kicked of Stripe, our friends over at Gab have been kicked off 5 banks. As our platform grows, we hope to bring more and more businesses together that are like minded in our walk with God and the mission of Fight Laugh Feast. The next 20 years, I believe, are going to be quite the fight, and this is why I think building our own platform is so important. Antifragil/Cancel free. The world has their platforms, think of ABC/FOX, etc…, we need to build ours. Why doesn’t FOX host their own conferences/events? We are the only network, that I know of, that host our own events. We have to build, we have to be in community, we have to map out a game plan that hits back at a political culture that is hostile to Christ and His Church. Mark Driscoll is Back in the News

ore than 40 elders who served with Mark Driscoll during the final years of Mars Hill Church are publicly calling for him to step down from his current pastoral position and seek reconciliation with those he has hurt.

“We are troubled that he continues to be unrepentant despite the fact that these sins have been previously investigated, verified, and brought to his attention by his fellow Elders, prior to his abrupt resignation” from Mars Hill, they wrote in a statement originally released Monday to CT. “Accordingly, we believe that Mark is presently unfit for serving the church in the office of pastor.”

Driscoll founded The Trinity Church in Scottsdale in 2016, two years after resigning from Mars Hill at the conclusion of an investigation into his leadership. In recent months, several former Mars Hill elders have heard directly from members leaving The Trinity Church over concerns around Driscoll.

Several former members of The Trinity Church, including its recently resigned director of security, Chad Freese, have begun to share their experiences online. Their accounts and criticism predate Christianity Today’s recent podcast, The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill, which looks back at the factors around the former church’s growth and collapse under Driscoll.

When the Eneas family joined The Trinity Church last year, they felt like they fit in as fellow transplants from the Pacific Northwest. “We were even telling our friends, ‘Don’t google him, just come and see it for yourself,’” she told CT.

“Denying Republicans a quorum to enact voting restrictions will cost Texas Democrats north of $1 million, according to the state legislator leading the fundraising effort.

More than 50 Democratic members of the state House fled Austin for Washington, D.C., last Monday, paralyzing the House just as the GOP was advancing sweeping changes in elections during a special session. Under the Texas Constitution, the Legislature requires a quorum of two-thirds of lawmakers to be present to conduct state business in either chamber.

The price of keeping the Democrats out of Texas through Aug. 7, when the session expires, is expected to be around $1.5 million, state Rep. Armando Walle said in an interview.

Walle said the pair of private charter jets the majority of legislators took to Washington cost more than $100,000, while housing, food and other transportation costs will make up the bulk of other expenses.

Who is paying for the exodus has been an open question, as the legislators fled in a hurry without a fundraising plan.

The charter jets were paid for by wire transfer from the state House Democratic Caucus just hours before takeoff Monday afternoon, after NBC News reported that the legislators were planning to leave town, a caucus staffer with knowledge of the matter said.

Legislators make $600 a month, as well as a per diem for each day in session. Republican House Speaker Dade Phelan has asked the runaway Democrats to return their $221 per diem, which at least one member said didn't appear possible to do.

The Texas Democrats plan to spend the week meeting with national voting rights advocates and labor leaders, election officials and other Democrats as they seek to keep the pressure on Congress to pass federal voting legislation.”

Judge Tries to Make an Example in the First Sentencing for the January 6th Capitol Protests

A Florida crane operator who walked onto the Senate floor during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison and two years of supervised release.

Paul Hodgkins' sentencing is the first in a felony case stemming from the deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters. It is viewed as a potential bellwether for how other Capitol defendants charged with similar offenses are likely to be treated.

Hodgkins pleaded guilty last month to a single count of obstructing an official proceeding. On Jan. 6, he marched from then-President Donald Trump's rally near the White House to the Capitol, where he walked inside and onto the floor of the Senate while carrying a red "Trump 2020" flag.

In court Monday, Hodgkins, dressed in a dark suit with his hair pulled back in a pony tail, said he was "truly remorseful and regretful" for his actions on Jan. 6.

"I say this not because I face consequence, but because of the damage that day's incident caused, the way this country that I love has been hurt," he told U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss.

Hodgkins said he traveled to Washington, D.C., from Florida to support Trump, and he had no idea the crowd would later storm the Capitol. He said he got caught up in the passion of the day and entered the Capitol and walked onto the Senate floor.

"It's essential to send a message that this type of conduct is utterly unacceptable and that grave damage was done to our country that day," Moss said. "But at the same time, I do not believe that Mr. Hodgkins, other than having made some very bad decisions that day ... that he is a threat."

Moss noted that Hodgkins did not previously have a criminal record. He did not engage in violence on Jan. 6 or destroy property, and he was in the Capitol for less than 30 minutes. But his presence at the Capitol, Moss made clear, did contribute to the mob's ability to achieve its goal of disrupting the certification of the 2020 presidential election.

Arizona Senate President Karen Fann held a public briefing on Thursday with the leaders of the ongoing election audit that she authorized. The auditors’ update was harrowing: 74,000 absentee ballots lacked documentation, thousands of ballots were duplicated without proper documentation, and most shockingly, over 11,000 voters were not on the November election voter rolls, but showed up later on the December voter rolls.

Marine experts and advocates in Australia are urging the public to refrain from using the word “attack” in reference to sharks, declaring that the majestic predatory fish has been unfairly stigmatized as a deliberate killer. 

Instead, officials have suggested that violent run-ins with sharks be dubbed with more neutral words — such as “interactions.”

Others have suggested swapping the word with the terms “negative encounter,” “incident” or simply “bites,” the Sydney Morning Herald recently reported.

” ‘Shark attack’ is a lie,” said University of Sydney language researcher Christopher Pepin-Neff, who argued that a majority of what people call “attacks” are merely nips and minor injuries from smaller sharks.

In other news, the Drag Queens of America are petitioning the world to begin calling what they are doing to little kids in public libraries “interactions.”

“Gov. Greg Abbott, the Texas Republican, criticized state Democrats who fled to Washington, D.C., on Monday in an effort to deprive the Legislature of a quorum, thus the ability to vote on the GOP's sweeping elections overhaul bill.

"Once they step back into the state they will be arrested and brought back to the Capitol and we will be conducting business," he said.

Republicans argue the contentious bill would provide greater election security, while Democrats charge it would suppress voter turnout of minorities. (How?)

The exodus was the second time that Democratic lawmakers have staged a walkout on the voting overhaul, a measure of their fierce opposition to proposals they say will make it harder for young people, people of color and people with disabilities to vote. 

But like last month’s effort, there remains no clear path for Democrats to permanently block the voting measures, or a list of other contentious GOP-backed proposals up for debate.

"We have special sessions that last 30 days," Abbott said. "And the governor calls them, and I will continue calling special session after special session because over time it is going to continue until they step up to vote."

As they arrived in Washington Monday evening, the lawmakers said they would not be swayed.”

“Texas state House members reportedly voted 76-4 to send law enforcement to find and return absent Democrats "under warrant of arrest, if necessary," a day after dozens left the state in an effort to kill election legislation, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The body cannot approve legislation without a two-thirds quorum of its 150 members...

"Public pressure is going to get them to return to Texas — I don’t think it will come to them being handcuffed," GOP stateRep. Matt Shaheen told the Journal.

While Texas Democrats have promised to stay in Washington until the end of the special session Aug. 7, Abbott could continue to call special sessions to pass the voting bill. Democrats acknowledged the only long-term solution was federal legislation.

"We can’t stay here indefinitely," said Democrat state Rep. Rhetta Bowers, the Journal reported. "Texas Democrats will use everything in our power to fight back. But we need Congress to act now."
