Vice President Pence responded with this tweet "So God Made a Farmer" and it includes a popular 2013 Super Bowl commercial featuring audio from a 1978 Paul Harvey speech praising farmers.

The video is done well, and a nice response to Bloomberg. But here is the deal. The left constantly say they are for the working class because they want votes, but their contempt is hard to keep bottled up. Meanwhile Bloomberg qualifies for the next democratic debate. Maybe that is because he dropped $124 million on super Tuesday states (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/elections-2020/bloomberg-drops-124-million-in-super-tuesday-states-rivals-go-on-the-attack/ar-BB105kMi).

Boy Scouts of America files for bankruptcy after sex abuse lawsuits

“The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection early Tuesday after decades of sexual abuse claims within one of the country's largest youth organizations.

The petition, filed in Delaware bankruptcy court, halts the hundreds of lawsuits the BSA is facing that allege sexual misconduct by people within the 110-year-old organization over the years.

Sexual abuse settlements had reportedly strained the Boy Scouts' finances, with states passing laws last year so victims from long-ago abuse can sue for damages.

The bankruptcy petition reportedly listed the Boy Scouts' assets as between $1 billion and $10 billion, and its liabilities at $500 million to $1 billion.”

President and Chief Executive Officer of the Boy Scouts of America, Roger Mosby,  said in a statement Tuesday:

"The BSA cares deeply about all victims of abuse and sincerely apologizes to anyone who was harmed during their time in Scouting. We are outraged that there have been times when individuals took advantage of our programs to harm innocent children. While we know nothing can undo the tragic abuse that victims suffered, we believe the Chapter 11 process – with the proposed Trust structure – will provide equitable compensation to all victims while maintaining the BSA's important mission."

Scouting programs will continue during the BSA's bankruptcy process and for many years to come, the organization says. Local councils are not filing for bankruptcy, as they are legally separate and distinct organizations.”

NHS staff can now refuse to treat patients deemed racist or sexist

According to Discrn: “The National Health Service in England recently released new rules that allows staff to ban racist or sexist patients from non-emergency care.

Staff can currently refuse to treat non-critical patients who are verbally aggressive or physically violent toward them, but new rules taking effect in April allows them to also refuse treatment to patients who harass, bully, or discriminate, including those who are homophobic, sexist, or make racist remarks.

The UK Medicare for All is a disaster. Just this past year, NHS registered their worst wait times since 2004. “Less than three-quarters (74.5%) of people who sought care at A&E unit in England in October were treated and then discharged, admitted or transferred within four hours” (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/nov/14/ae-waiting-times-in-england-hit-worst-ever-level).

Conservative Baptist Network

If you have been following any of the Southern Baptist Convention in-fighting over the last year or two, here is some good news. Good guys are rising up to the challenge. The Southern Baptist Convention has been getting woke and played over the last couple of years, and leaders, like Al Mohler, have offered up at best anemic responses to the problems plaguing the SBC. So men like Tom Ascol and Jared Longshore are leading the charge with their organization Founders Ministries, and just this past weekend the Conservative Baptist Network just launched to add to the faithful resistance. 

According to the Conservative Baptist Network’s website here is their purpose:

The Conservative Baptist Network is a partnership of Southern Baptists where all generations are encouraged, equipped, and empowered to bring positive, biblical solutions that strengthen the SBC in an effort to fulfill the Great Commission and influence culture. 

-The Network affirms the longstanding Baptist beliefs as expressed in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. 

 -The Network affirms the inerrancy, supremacy, and sufficiency of the Bible in all facets of life and application. 

-The Network affirms religious liberty and encourages Christian individuals and churches to influence the culture by engaging in the public policy process and demonstrating their patriotism. 

-The Network rejects various unbiblical ideologies currently affecting the Southern Baptist Convention such as Critical Race Theory, intersectionality, and social justice.

-The Network is committed to seeing the SBC function biblically — efficiently, and  strategically — believing Convention entities and leadership are accountable to and encouraged by the autonomous, local churches that cooperate together. 

Responses have been all over the map to the launch of this network but here is a smatter of Twitter responses:

One pastor tweeted: “This new baptist network thing is about love of Trump and being butt hurt about Paige Patterson. Don’t be fooled.“

Al Mohler tweeted:

“The real network of Southern Baptists is called the Southern Baptist Convention. It’s going to meet June 9-10 in Orlando. I look forward to joining you there.”

Woke Dwight McKissik tweeted: 

“The new so called Conservative Baptist Network is openly staunchly Republican. They are upset that some messengers opposed Vice President Pence addressing the 2018 Annual Session in Dallas. Because a number of messengers refused to hear Pence, they now want to insure never again.”

The Democratic establishment does not like Bernie. Bernie is too socialist still for the establishment, and a threat to the party’s actual existence. The latest establishment kurfluffle happens when Bernie called, Bill Clinton’s former the lead strategist James Carville, a political hack. 

James responded in a podcast interview by saying “That’s exactly who the [expletive] I am,” Mr. Carville said. “I am a political hack. I am not an ideologue. I am not a purist. He thinks it’s a pejorative. I kinda like it. At least I’m not a communist.”

New York City’s Mayor, Bill Hotdog Di Blasio, endorsed Commie Sanders, while not one CEO for the S&P 500 has endorsed him, so theres that. 

In the meantime former VP Joe Biden is focusing his efforts on South Carolina and not Nevada. This means Biden has all but given up on Nevada, and is betting his whole campaign on South Carolina. If Biden wins South Carolina, he will only have won one state before Super Tuesday, which is March 3rd.

What Happened with Roger Stone?

Andrew McCarthy writes in the National Review: Some background: In a ridiculously overblown, overcharged prosecution, Mueller slammed the ineffable Stone with seven felony counts of obstructing Congress’s Russia investigation. One of these involved tampering with a witness, left-wing radio host Randy Credico (through whom Stone sought a communications channel with WikiLeaks honcho Julian Assange).

At a certain point, Credico let it be known that he intended to cooperate with investigators. A ballistic Stone, warned the “stoolie” “rat” Credico to “prepare to die” and vowed to steal his pet dog. We should note that Roger Stone stopped short of calling Credico a “lying dog-faced pony soldier,” but one wonders if he was thinking it. Even in context, these don’t seem to have been real threats. (Stone added that his lawyers were anxious to “rip [Credico] to shreds,” so any murder and dognapping was apparently going to await cross-examination.) And though Stone is patently guilty of witness tampering, Credico himself told the court that he did not take Stone’s threats seriously.

Stone being the sort of Einstein who commits his obstructions in writing (the Credico contacts were mostly text messages), the jury convicted him in nothing flat. That meant DOJ would give the court its take on how the sentencing guidelines applied to the case, as it does with every convicted defendant.

With Mueller’s shop closed down, the Stone prosecution was run out of the U.S. attorney’s office for the District of Columbia. But it was still being overseen by two Mueller staffers, Aaron S. J. Zelinsky (on loan from the U.S. attorney’s office in Maryland, where he had worked for Rod Rosenstein, who, as Trump’s deputy attorney general, later appointed Mueller), and Adam C. Jed (an appellate lawyer from the Obama Justice Department who first came to public attention in 2013, arguing that the ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional). Also assigned to the case were Jonathan Kravis, a former associate White House counsel to Obama, and Michael Mirando, an experienced assistant U.S. attorney in the D.C. office.

This team of prosecutors filed a sentencing memorandum last Monday, laying out the guidelines and advising Judge Amy Berman Jackson that they called for a prison sentence of about seven to nine years, based on sentencing “enhancements” available to judges under particularly aggravating circumstances, like when the guy is associated with Trump. Ok, not that, but international crimes can invoke enhanced sentences, and this team of legal beavers went for the jugular.  

As is his wont, the president went bonkers on Twitter upon learning of the recommendation, calling it “horrible and very unfair” and a major “miscarriage of justice” because “the real crimes are on the other side” — i.e., the Russia-probe investigators — yet “nothing happens to them.” While the Justice Department was obviously aware of the president’s tweet, as well as press reporting about the harshness of the prosecutors’ sentencing recommendation, the DOJ and the White House have had no communications about the case, according to both the president and a spokeswoman for the attorney general.

Nevertheless, the DOJ made it known that the sentencing memo would be rescinded and a new one filed. That announcement prompted the recusals of all four prosecutors, some of whom are quitting the DOJ entirely and some apparently just stepping aside from the Stone case.

Late Tuesday, the DOJ headed by William Barr filed a revised sentencing memo, which does not recommend a specific sentence but strongly suggests that a term calculated without the eight-point enhancement — i.e., between 37 and 46 months’ imprisonment — would be just.

Bloomberg heard in 2015 audio clip defending ‘stop and frisk,’ throwing minority kids against wall: report

Back in 2013 Mayor Blooberg said ““I think we disproportionately stop whites too much and minorities too little. It’s exactly the reverse of what they say,”. He was referring to New York City’s Stop and Frisk policy. 

Now according to the New York Post, at the time of his comments in 2013, “eighty seven percent of all stops last year were for blacks or latinos, who constituted 90 percent of murder suspects, according to city stats. Only nine percent of stops were for white people, who made up 7 percent of all murder suspects”. Setting aside the “Stop and Frisk” debate for a minute, as I have some serious concerns with that policy. If these stats are true, statistically speaking Mayor Bloomberg is not a crazy racist. If high school kids were known for stealing all the cars in our town, then the police should be on the lookout for high school kids when cars get stolen.   

But here is what gets my funny bone. The left can’t help but devour each other. Forget reason, for get common sense, just stop thinking thoughts that the left don’t like. Your thoughts are hateful to them, because your thoughts hurt their feelings. You don’t even need to say your thoughts, what you think make them cry. Bloomberg please meet your own devouring party. You have been a part of creating this woke party, and now it is going to toss you aside like an aborted fetus. 

Let's talk a little about what is stop and frisk?

According to Cornell Law School Legal Information Institute : “A stop-and-frisk refers to a brief non-intrusive police stop of a suspect. The Fourth Amendment requires that before stopping the suspect, the police must have a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been, is being, or is about to be committed by the suspect. If the police reasonably suspect that the suspect is armed and dangerous, the police may frisk the suspect, meaning that the police will give a quick pat-down of the suspect's outer clothing. The frisk is also called a Terry Stop, derived from the Supreme Court case Terry v. Ohio, 392 U.S. 1 (1968). Terry held that a stop-and-frisk must comply with the Fourth Amendment, meaning that the stop-and-frisk cannot be unreasonable. According to the Terry court, a reasonable stop-and-frisk is one "in which a reasonably prudent officer is warranted in the circumstances of a given case in believing that his safety or that of others is endangered, he may make a reasonable search for weapons of the person believed by him to be armed and dangerous." Stop-and-frisks fall under criminal law, as opposed to civil law.”

This law basically allows officers frisking privileges, according to how it is being interpreted, it does not violate our nation’s Fourth Amendment which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any search warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. This of course opens up the door for all sorts of abuse and real constitutional concerns. But the left, and the right for that matter, cannot have an adult conversation about this because they would just rather virtue signal and call each other racist. I bet Bloomberg wishes he was Blackface Northam right now.

The Ninth Circuit Denies an Appeal to Rehearing Idaho Transgender Prisoner Case

Ed Whelan at the National Review reports that the Ninth Circuit has denied a request that a case be reheard by the court “en banc,” which means that the case reheard by the entire court of judges, not just a selection of justices. 

After the case was decided last August, 2019, eight dissenting judges joined Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain’s scathing opinion, which said in part:

“With its decision today, our court becomes the first federal court of appeals to mandate that a State pay for and provide sex-reassignment surgery to a prisoner under the Eighth Amendment. 

The three-judge panel’s conclusion— that any alternative course of treatment would be “cruel and unusual punishment”—is as unjustified as it is unprecedented… Deliberate indifference is a high legal standard. It is, after all, under governing precedent one form of the “unnecessary and wanton infliction of pain” that is the sine qua non of an Eighth Amendment violation. Simply put, Edmo must prove that Dr. Eliason’s chosen course of treatment was the doing of a criminally reckless—or worse—state of mind…. 

[T]he panel concludes that the decision to continue hormone treatment and counseling instead of sex-reassignment surgery for Edmo was “medically unacceptable under the circumstances” … 

Even were the panel correct that the only medically acceptable way to approach a gender dysphoric patient’s request for sex-reassignment surgery is to apply the WPATH Standards of Care, we still could not infer a constitutional violation from these facts. As the Supreme Court has explained, the Eighth Amendment simply proscribes categories of punishment, and punishment is “a deliberate act intended to chastise or deter.” “[O]nly the ‘unnecessary and wanton infliction of pain’ implicates the Eighth Amendment.” …

We have applied the traditional deliberate-indifference standard to requests for back surgery, kidney transplant, hip replacement, antipsychotic medication, and hernia surgery. Yet suddenly the request for sex-reassignment surgery—and the panel’s closing appeal to what it calls the “increased social awareness” of the needs and wants of transgender citizens—effects a revolution in our law! The temptation to stand at what we are told is society’s next frontier and to invent a constitutional right to state-funded sex-reassignment surgery does not justify the revision of previously universal principles of Eighth Amendment jurisprudence.”

On Monday night the Democratic Iowa Caucus ends with no results. Apparently the new app rolled out to tally caucus votes was experiencing some sort of a glitch. According to KHQ “the Iowa Democratic Party blamed a “coding issue in the reporting system” that it said has since been fixed.” While the confusion rolled into the night, several candidates took the time to comment on their status in coming results:

Sleepy Joe said: “It looks like it’s going to be a long night, but we’re feeling good,” 

#breadlinebernie said that he had “a good feeling we’re going to be doing very, very well here in Iowa”... “Today marks the beginning of the end for Donald Trump,”

Pocahontas said: “Listen, it’s too close to call,”...“The road won’t be easy. But we are built for the long haul.”

Pinko Pete said: “So we don’t know all the results, but we know by the time it’s all said and done, Iowa, you have shocked the nation,”...“By all indications, we are going on to New Hampshire victorious.” 

And of course don’t forget about our Commander in Chief’s twittering about this: “The Democrat Caucus is an unmitigated disaster. “Nothing works, just like they ran the Country.” He added: “The only person that can claim a very big victory in Iowa last night is ‘Trump.’”

Trump is pretty much right about this, and regardless of the results that will have come out by the time this news brief drops, Iowa’s results will be insignificant regardless of who wins. Any candidate now has the grounds for casting a shadow over the victor, and Iowa deserves it. So, Iowa is out of the race before any of the major Democratic candidates bowed out, and who would have predicted that. 

The other thing to not forget about, is that the current CEO of the tech company that flubbed the app is Gerard Niemira. Niemira served as Clinton’s Director of Product during her 2016 campaign. Krista Davis, who served Hillary’s campaign, is also the current CTO of the app company. 

I had a friend who is all in on Bernie say this about the Iowa fiasco:

“i’m inclined to dunk on all those libertarian know-it-alls who loudly repeat the article of faith that “big government is incompetent.” or who trot out that quippy mantra of our first media star president: “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the Government, and I'm here to help.”

the Iowa caucuses were a damn mess this year. a display of “Epic, raw incompetence.” but not because the state government bungled the job. it was because the Democratic Party put their faith (&$) in a shadowy, private, for-profit tech firm that was gonna #disrupt the election industry, or whatever. even though the old school system of hiring a sufficient number of workers to answer the phones and record the data worked just fine in the past.”

But this is how confused the Democratic party is right now. My friend does not like libertarians and he doesn't like fascism democrats (business in bed with politicians). But what is his solution? #breadlinebernie, who, if he had his way, would bring the US under a full on socialist agenda and heading right into communism. Included in this, is he wants to national electricity, raise the minimum wage, virtually destroy the stock market, force everyone to have government healthcare and so on. Meanwhile Michael Bloomberg has spent more money in a quarter ($200 million) than the NRA spends in a year ($194 million), and yet Bloomberg calls the NRA Goliath.

Halftime National Geographic Show

For anyone who was not on social media over the last 24 hours, let me be the first to fill you in on the fact that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira apparently did their best National Geographic “Missing Link” impressions during the Super Bowl Halftime Show. I didn’t see the dancing-poodle Circus event personally, but Jeb Bush said it was the very best Halftime Show he’s ever seen – so there’s that. But there’s been a healthy uproar from sane, civil, and relatively Christian quarters. And I will just add that this is how you know that the hashtag #metoo movement has been nothing but lies all along. The Cosbys and Weinsteins of the world deserve whatever justice demands, but they are scapegoats not emblems of repentance. Do not be deceived: a culture that celebrates this kind of public shaming and degrading of women made in the image of God does not give a damn about women. 

Of course millions of Christians watched and giggled and made excuses about how they are not bothered by all the skin, but for some reason don’t feel comfortable taking their family to the strip club next Sunday. Or just do a quick thought experiment: what if your neighbors invited you over next weekend and after lunch offered to let you watch them have sex. And when you objected, they offered to play some loud dance music and take off most of their clothes while gyrating on the table. And when you object once again, they look at you confused: but why is it OK for you to watch that kind of thing on television or youtube or Netflix or at the theater? The answer is that we are a very special kind of hypocrite. 

When the objection comes, well what about violence in movies or bad language? Well, I would have the same objection if people were really being stabbed and shot in the filming of war movies, but everyone knows it’s fake. But when a woman is undressed on screen, she is really being shamed and degraded. The Bible also contains examples of profanity and obscenity and swearing. It is not gratuitous as it often is in our modern films, and the Bible also contains many warnings about the power of words and the tongue and letting unclean things come out of our mouths – which is why no Christian should be known for having a foul mouth, but there is at least a biblical category for representing evil in story telling accurately. There is no such biblical category for being entertained by the public shaming of women – which is what it is, whether they are being paid millions or not. 

Jonah Goldberg on Dershowitz

I have a lot of respect of Jonah Goldberg. His book Liberal Fascism is phenomenal and I highly recommend it, as it connects so many important historical dots over the last century. I also respect the ground he has sought to stake out somewhere between “Never-Trumper” and “Mostly-Never Trumper,” a lonely place for sure, but one where he is willing to admit that Trump has done some good things for our republic, while generally urging conservative America to do better. In other words, he’s trying to retain a rational, conservative opposition to Trump, but not an emotional-reactionism or Derangement Syndrome. And I completely sympathize with his point that many of Trump’s fans are just as bad as his foes. There truly is a lot of derangement going around on all sides. But I want to offer here a brief pushback, but one that I trust it is nevertheless friendly, appreciative, and hopefully not all deranged.

This last Friday Jonah issued a short plea to the Republican Senate, that if they are going to exonerate Trump to at least do so with some kind of accompanying resolution insisting that the acquittal has nothing at all to do with the case that Alan Dershowitz made in defense of Trump. We covered that defense in detail last Friday, January 31st. 

Now, I happen to think that Jonah has a point: he raises the question of wheth

Rod Dreher at the American Conservative: Did you hear about Goldman Sachs’s newest diversity policy? From the NYT, reporting from Davos:

Goldman Sachs’s C.E.O., David Solomon, prompted chatter on Wall Street yesterday about his plan to require I.P.O. clients to have at least one “diverse” board candidate before the bank helped them list in the public markets.

“We’re not going to take a company public unless there’s at least one diverse board candidate, with a focus on women,” Mr. Solomon told CNBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The mandate starts July 1 for U.S. and European clients, and starting next year, Goldman will require two diverse board members.

“We might miss some business, but in the long run, this I think is the best advice for companies that want to drive premium returns for their shareholders over time,” Mr. Solomon added.

It’s a big deal in the I.P.O. world, given that Goldman was the top underwriter of U.S. offerings last year.

And it’s the latest push for diversity within Corporate America, Jeff Green of Bloomberg notes. The money-management firms BlackRock and State Street plan to vote against directors at companies without a female director. And California-based public companies with all-male boards face a $100,000 fine.

As Tucker Carlson pointed out on his show the other night, Goldman excepts itself from this rule, and Goldman is also not applying the rule to China. 

Dershowitz at the Senate Impeachment Hearing

Meanwhile, the Impeachment Hearings continue in the Senate, with apparently hardly anyone really caring. Although, Senator Ted Cruz has started a podcast called Verdict that has shot to the top of the podcast charts, where he chats with Michael Knowles at the end of each day of the Senate Trial, the first episode apparently being recorded at 2:30am, after the first day of the Senate trial finally finished back on January 21.  

One item of note this last week was the testimony of Alan Dershowitz, appearing to present arguments in defense of President Trump. Alan Dershowitz appeared in the Richard Nixon trial of 1973 and 1974, as well as Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial in 1998 and 1999. Dershowitz is a lifetime democrat and also a legal professor, who was also involved in the OJ Simpson Trial. 

Noting his support for and vote for Hillary Clinton in the last election, Dershowitz insisted that his defense of Trump and the constitution is non-partisan, and he would be making the same defense if Hillary had been elected and had been brought up on the same charges of impeachment.

Dershowitz summarized the job of the senate under three basic issues: “In exercising that power the Senate must consider three issues in this case. The first is whether the evidence presented by the House managers establishes by the appropriate standard of proof, proof beyond a reasonable doubt, that the factual allegations occurred. The second is whether if these factual allegations occurred, did they rise to the level of abuse of power and/or obstruction of Congress? Finally, the Senate must determine whether abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are constitutionally authorized criteria for impeachment.”

“I will ask whether the framers would have accepted such vague and open-ended terms as abuse of power and obstruction of Congress as governing criteria. I will show by a close review of the history that they did not and would not accept such criteria for fear that these criteria would turn our new republic into a British style parliamentary democracy in which the chief’s executives tenure would be in the words of James Madison, the father of our constitution, “At the pleasure of the legislature.”
