“The company, which estimates that it provides 45% of the East Coast’s fuel, shut down the pipeline last Friday after being hit by a ransomware attack. U.S. officials and cybersecurity experts have linked the attack to a Russian-speaking criminal gang known as DarkSide, believed to be based in Eastern Europe.

DarkSide, which has said it has broken into networks on more than 80 companies dating back to August 2020, claims to be an experienced team of ransomware creators that previously made millions of dollars infecting victim networks.

DarkSide also claims to engage in extortion, threatening to publicly publish data belonging to its victims if they don’t pay the ransom. The hackers have said they are willing to sell inside information about publicly traded companies if these companies refuse to meet their ransom demands.

Ransomware is a type of cyberattack that locks up a victim’s computer systems and demands payment from a victim to have the files released. Payments are usually made with cryptocurrency.

“The USPS is changing the standard on how fast you get your mail, with a slowdown that starts Oct. 1.

The Postal Service is creating new service standards, which will mean longer first-class mail delivery times and cuts to post office hours.

Starting Friday, first class mail may take as long as 5 days to reach destinations in the contiguous US. That's a change from the previous standard of 3 days.

USPS said that standard led to an over-reliance on air travel, which is more costly that ground transportation. The Postal Service will increase time‐in‐transit expectations by 1 or 2 days for certain mail that needs to travel longer distances.

If you're shipping something within 139 miles, you can expect it to take 2 days. For anything traveling up to 930 miles, expect 3-day shipping. Times go up to 4 or 5 days for anything over 930 miles traveled.

Officials say most mail will be unaffected, but they recommend planning ahead and sending first class mail early, if it has to travel far distances.”  

Leave it to the government to define “improving service” as actually lowering standards of service.

Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act

Last week the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act bill was printed and given a number HB361. This means that now, for those who are in Idaho, you can contact your senator and legislatures and tell them to get behind this bill and even become a sponsor. The best thing we can do is to get broad support in each district, so email and call your local legislatures and senators. It sounds like we will also be seeing a heartbeat bill and a dismemberment bill this legislative session. Impeachment Update

On Friday, before the weekend kicked in, the Senate voted to not to call witness in the Senate trial for Trump’s impeachment trial. This vote become pretty contentious when “reports” surfaced in the New York Times that John Bolton’s, Trump’s former national security advisor, manuscripts of his upcoming book were leaked that revealed Trump supposedly wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into the Bidens. Now this was an unpublished manuscript by the former adviser and at minimum a great publicity stunt. But we need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. First the impeachment process started in the House. Now the House put together a kangaroo process not allowing Trump to have lawyers present nor allowing the republicans to call any witnesses. This is a standard that no one would want to go through if it was your trial. You can’t have any lawyers and you can’t call any witnesses. This is absurd and sham trial in broad daylight.  Secondly, The democrats in the house had subpoenaed John Bolton to testify, in which Trump claimed executive privilege for John Bolton. John Bolton then went and asked a judge what he should do (should Bolton follow the rules of the subpoena or the executive directives of President Trump), but before the judge made a recommendation, the democrats removed their subpoena for John Bolton. So the Democrats could have pushed for the Bolton subpoena, but ultimately chose not to call John Bolton as a witness in the House impeachment trial. Now that the trial is in the Senate, the democrats are crying foul because the republicans control the senate, and as mentioned, voted on Friday to not call any witnesses...and this is important, because the House did not demonstrate sufficient burden of proof that the President committed High Crimes and Misdemeanors in the Ukraine phone call. So House Democrats complaining to the Senate republicans about witnesses is really a joke. The house democrats wont an elite lynching not a judicious trial.  

UK formally leaves the European Union and begins Brexit transition period 

This just gets all my Texan succession goosebumps tingling. According to CNBC: “The U.K. finally left the EU on Friday evening after 47 years of membership, marking one of the biggest political and economic shifts in modern European history.

Brexit brings about the end of a tumultuous three-and-a-half year departure process that has caused turmoil in the U.K.’s political establishment, economic uncertainty and heightened tensions between the U.K. and the EU — its largest single trading partner as a bloc.

The departure on January 31 also marks the start of a “transition period” in which the U.K. remains a member of the single market and customs union and begins negotiations with the EU to strike a free-trade deal. During the transition period, the U.K. will not have voting rights on EU matters but will still be bound by EU rule

Dem. Governor Candidate Says He Will Never Allow School Choice in Virginia

Terry McAuliffe has four kids going to 30K per student tuition private school and opposes the use of vouchers to send poorer kids to private schools. 

But it’s actually not just that. He opposes allowing parents to keep their own money to pay for the education that they believe is best for their own kids. He supports taking money from hard working families whether or not they want to pay for government schools.

That’s the video/audio of the school board meeting back in June where Scot Smith was arrested for exploding at the school board. 

What was the board discussing that day? Transgender policies. 

What was the frustrated 48-year old father trying to say? He was trying to tell the room that his daughter had been raped by a boy at school in the girls' bathroom.

In an interview with The Daily Wire that was published on Monday, he explained that he was trying to stick up for his daughter, who was attacked at Stone Bridge High School in a girl’s restroom on May 28 by a boy 'wearing a skirt.' 

Smith says the boy took advantage of the school's trans policies to get into the girls' bathrooms and assault her. 

On the day of the incident, Smith says the school told him to come to the campus because his daughter had been physically assaulted. They did not say she had been sexually assaulted. Once he got there, he says school staff told him they would handle it internally, choosing not to call the police for an as-yet unexplained reason. 

He was enraged by the decision and challenged them on it. The school board then did call the police but to report Smith, not the boy, for making a scene. 

The school's principal sent out an alert that day warning parents of what had happened involving Smith, but it said nothing of the sexual assault allegations in the bathroom.  

Smith and his daughter ultimately ended up at the hospital where a rape kit was performed that verified his daughter's claim. They took it to the police and a case was then opened.

Meanwhile, it would be two months before the boy was arrested, a month after the crazy school board meeting. 

So the boy in a skirt who had assaulted his daughter in a ladies’ room was still at large, when at the meeting on June 22 the board took up discussion of their trans policy. During the meeting, Loudoun County School Superintendent Scott Ziegler said the school had never had any form of incident inside a bathroom or locker room involving a transgender child.

Gov. Noem Partially Veto’s a Bill She Said She Looked Forward to Signing

South Dakota's GOP governor declined on Friday to sign a bill from legislators in her own party that would have banned transgender girls from participating in women's high school and college sports.

In a statement released on Twitter, Noem said that she was sending the bill back to lawmakers for changes, and indicated that she thought the ban should not be extended to college athletes.

"Unfortunately, as I have studied this legislation and conferred with legal experts over the past several days, I have become concerned that this bill’s vague and overly broad language could have significant unintended consequences," Noem wrote.

"I am also concerned that the approach House Bill 1217 takes is unrealistic in the context of collegiate athletics," she added, writing that banning transgender athletes from collegiate sports would cause conflict with national college athletic associations (NCAA).

Michael Ferris, CEO of Alliance Defending Freedom, Chairman of the HomeSchool Legal Defense Association, and Chancellor Emeritus of Patrick Henry College was among the first conservatives to call “Foul!” 

On Facebook, Ferris wrote: 

“Kristi Noem, the REPUBLICAN Governor of South Dakota, has just vetoed portions of the Save Women’s Sports bill in her state. 

Girls sports are saved for high school. But because of her veto men can now play women’s sports in college. And she took out the enforcement clause for high school sports.

It is clear that she bowed to the pressure from Amazon (which is supposed to be building a new facility in South Dakota) and the NCAA. 

She was considered a shining star in the GOP with a bright future. No more. 

We don’t need leaders who lack the courage to stand up to the corporate bullies who want to turn our country into an amoral wasteland filled with compliant consumers. 

Republican leaders count on people like us to help elect them. With leaders like this it makes the need for a new political alignment all the more acute. 

South Dakota deserves better. All of America deserves better.

ADDITION IN RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS:

Gov. Noem’s criticisms of the bill can be broken down into 3 basic points. 

1. She didn’t want the bill to apply to college athletics. 

2. She didn’t want high school girls whose rights were violated to have the right to sue. 

3. She had some technical amendments about drug testing etc. 

Keep in mind that after the Senate passed the bill, she tweeted that she looked forward to signing the legislation.
