William Barr says 'no thanks' to House questioning

US Attorney General William Barr has been defending his rollout of the Mueller report on the Russian hack of the 2016 US presidential election.

But even Mueller has objected to Barr's soft sell of his report that did not rule out that the president obstructed justice.

Trump is reported to be happy with Barr.

UN adds Masood Azhar to 'global terror' list

The UN has declared Masood Azhar a global terrorist.

The Security Council backed the US-sponsored move after China withdrew its opposition.

Azhar is head of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed.

JeM claimed a suicide attack in India-administered Kashmir in February that killed 44 Indian paramilitary police.

16-year-old migrant boy dies in US custody

And finally,

A 16-year-old boy trying to migrate to the US has died in custody.

He died at a hospital in Texas after he was caught after he crossed the border.

He was the third child to die in US custody since Trump ramped up his attacks on refugees and immigrants.

The UN is warning of a looming humanitarian crisis in Libya.

The UN wants safe corridors out of the capital Tripoli so civilians can leave.

Sri Lankan security forces are on high alert after intelligence reports that militants were planning more attacks before the start of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Police informed lawmakers that attacks were expected over the past two days by militants dressed in army uniform, but none were reported.

Security remains ramped up across the country and scores of suspects have been arrested since the April 21 attacks on hotels and churches that killed more than 250 people.

*)A purported video of reclusive Daesh leader released

Daesh’s propaganda wing has released a video message purportedly from its elusive leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.

Baghdadi was last seen in Mosul in 2014, announcing the birth of Daesh’s so-called 'caliphate' in Iraq and Syria.

The man shown in the 18-minute video, dated from April, says the Sri Lankan Easter bombings were revenge for the terror group’s losses in Syria.

He threatens more terror attacks and says the group will continue to take revenge for members killed.

*)Erdogan and Trump discuss S-400 anti-aircraft system.

Turkish President Erdogan and US President Trump have discussed the creation of a joint working group on Ankara’s planned purchase of a Russian S-400 missile defence system.

The two countries have argued for months over Turkey’s order of the missile system, which the US says is incompatible with NATO’s defence network and could compromise its F-35 fighter jets.

Ankara said a working group could assess the impact of the S-400 on the fighter jets.

*)Sudan military, opposition negotiations at a stalemate

The leading protest group in Sudan has called for civil disobedience, and a general strike as meetings with military rulers have failed to result in the formation of a joint civilian-military transitional council.

Protesters at a sit-in in the capital Khartoum are demanding a governing council led by civilians to help the country transition from years of authoritarian rule.

The Sudanese Professionals Association said late on Monday that the military was trying to break up the protests, and called for more civilians to join.

Hollywood filmmaker John Singleton has died at the age of 51, days after suffering a stroke.

Singleton is best known for directing the iconic 1991 film 'Boyz n the Hood'.

Spain's Socialist party wins snap election but without the necessary majority.

The centre-left party will need the backing of smaller parties to lead the government.

The Vox Party secured 10 percent of the vote, making it the first far-right party to win seats in Parliament in four decades.

Sri Lanka bans clothing covering face after attacks

Sri Lanka announces a ban on all articles of clothing that cover the face as part of security measures following Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The decision will impact some Muslim women on the island country who veil their face as part of their faith.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan police say some members of Zahran Hashim's family were killed in a shootout between suspects and security forces on Friday.

Hashim, who blew himself up at a Colombo hotel, was the alleged ringleader of the group behind the bombings.

Security beefed up in Tokyo as emperor prepares to abdicate

Japan's 85-year-old Emperor Akihito will end his three-decade reign on Tuesday when he abdicates to his son Crown Prince Naruhito.

He's the first emperor to abdicate in 200 years.

Japan's succession rules prevent women from reigning and the crown prince has no sons.

Cyclone Kenneth death toll in Mozambique rises to five

Rains from Cyclone Kenneth, the second tropical storm to hit Mozambique within weeks, continue to pound northern parts of the country. At least five people have been killed.

Tens of thousands of people are bracing themselves for what the UN is calling “violent flooding”.

The government asked residents to seek shelter on higher grounds as flooding and heavy rains are preventing rescue work by both road and air.

Final 'Avengers' obliterates Hollywood records

And finally,

Marvel's “Avengers: Endgame” has only been in the cinemas for five days- and the film is already obliterating world records.

The movie made $1.2 billion in global box office sales with the biggest ever opening weekend.

“Endgame” which ties together the "Avengers" storyline, as well as the previous 21 releases of the Marvel "cinematic universe", has already made more than“Skyfall,” ’’Aquaman” and “The Dark Knight Rises” grossed in their entire runs.
