Polling will take place in over 90 constituencies across 13 states.

Early results from Wednesday's presidential election in Indonesia show Joko Widodo winning a second term.

But his challenger, ex-general Prabowo Subianto, has claimed victory.

The government, army and police say they will crack down on any attempt to disrupt public order as official results are tabulated.

North Korea tests a new tactical weapon

North Korea says it's tested a new tactical weapon.

State media said Kim Jong-un observed the trial.

It comes as talks with the US on ridding the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons are going nowhere.

Some analysts see it as an attempt to prod the tiger, in other words, to see if Trump's rhetoric is actually anything more than hot air.

CHP's Ekrem Imamoglu named Istanbul mayor

Turkey's electoral council has installed the CHP's Ekrem Imamoglu as mayor of Istanbul.

The CHP margin of victory was some 13,000 votes, or less than 0.2 percent of the vote.

The defeated AK Party is alleging irregularities. It has appealed to the electoral council, or YSK as it's known, to annul the result and call a new election.

Researchers revive pig brains hours after death

Researchers in the US have revived activity in pigs' brains, four hours after they were declared dead.

Oil-rich but poverty-stricken Venezuela was further plunged into crisis when Juan Guaido named himself interim president earlier this year and called for Nicolas Maduro to step down.

Trump vetoes end to US involvement in Yemen war

US President Donald Trump has vetoed a bipartisan congressional resolution calling for an end to support for the war in Yemen.

The US is backing a Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-linked Houthi rebels.

The civil and regional proxy war has triggered a humanitarian disaster with millions facing starvation.

Turkey expects US to extend sanctions waiver on Iran oil

Turkey's Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin says Ankara expects the US to extend a waiver on Turkey importing oil from Iran.

The Trump administration ripped up a multilateral nuclear pact with Tehran and six world powers in 2015 and reimposed oil sanctions last year.

Kalin said, "People should not expect Turkey to turn its back on Iran."

Teen climate activist tells EU it's time to panic

And finally,

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg says time is running out to halt climate change.

Thunberg got a standing ovation in France when she told EU lawmakers it's "time to panic."

The Swedish teenager is fast becoming the face of environmental activism as the adults in the room continue to pretend there isn't a problem.

A fire at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris has destroyed parts of the iconic structure.

It broke out Monday and destroyed much of the church's 13th-century roof. Its landmark spire fell.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control after eight-and-a-half hours.

The French government says it will be rebuilt.

AU calls for civilian government in Sudan

The 55-member African Union is threatening to suspend Sudan from the body if the military does not hand power to a civilian government within 15 days.

Protesters are still camping outside the defence ministry and are demanding an end to military rule.

The army ousted long-time president Omar al Bashir in a coup last Thursday.

Egypt's parliament to increase the president's power

Egypt's parliament is set to vote on constitutional changes on Tuesday that could strengthen the presidency.

Supporters say the changes will allow the president to finalise economic reforms and major development projects.

Critics argue they will entrench authoritarian rule and further empower Egypt’s military.

President Abdel Fattah el Sisi came to power in 2013 in a military coup, when he ousted and jailed Egypt's democratically elected Mohamed Morsi.

Parliament is expected to pass the changes. The public will then vote on them in a referendum.

Israeli researchers print 3D heart

Israeli researchers have printed the world's first 3D heart with blood vessels.

The 'prints' are only about the size of a rabbit's heart.

The scientists from Tel Aviv University say hearts suitable for human transplant are still a long way off.

Tour of Turkey cycles out of Istanbul

And finally,

The Tour of Turkey gets underway today, with the first leg cycling out of Istanbul, 157 kilometres west to Tekirdag on the Marmara Sea coast.

The 6-day 1,000-kilometre event is part of the UCI World Tour. This year 119 riders in 17 teams are competing.

The event crosses from Europe into Asia then ends back in Istanbul on Sunday.

A measles outbreak has killed more than 1,200 [12 hundred] people in Madagascar.

It's the worst outbreak in the recorded history of the Indian Ocean country off the coast of east Africa.

Many parents want to protect their children.

But poverty and misinformation are among the reasons preventing this.

Sudan’s military council appoints new intelligence head

Sudan’s military council has appointed a new intelligence chief, retired the defence minister and also sacked the country's envoys to Washington and Geneva.

This has all happened in days, as part of an effort to appease protesters since last Thursday's military coup.

The opposition is demanding that the army hand over power to a civilian government.

The military says it will name a new cilivian prime minister and cabinet, but not a president, after it removed Omar al Bashir from power.

UN says 120 killed since fighting broke out in Libya

The UN says more than 120 people have been killed in fighting since the commander of eastern-based Libyan forces launched a drive against the capital, Tripoli.

Khalifa Haftar has also thrown into chaos UN plans to try to reunite the divided country.

Oil and gas-rich Libya has been riven by violence since NATO backed the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

DNA tests confirm death of Daesh leader in the Philippines

DNA tests in the US confirm that a senior pro-Daesh commander was killed in the Philippines in March in a battle with government forces.

The militant who goes by the name Abu Dar was one of the leaders of the 2017 siege of Marawi City.

The siege on southern Mindanao island, which is home to many of the country's minority Muslims, left over 1,000 people dead.

Tiger Woods makes Masters his 15th and most improbable major

And finally,

After more than a decade of scandal and surgeries that appeared to derail his career, Tiger Woods has won another major.

It was also the first time Woods has come from behind in a major, as he claimed his 5th Masters green jacket at Augusta on Sunday.

It was his 15th major overall and first since the 2008 US Open.
