UN report says Myanmar military should face genocide charges
A UN report says Myanmar’s top military brass should be prosecuted for crimes that were genocidal in intent.
The report follows the mass killings, rape and abuse of Myanmar's Muslim-minority Rohingya, prompting some 700,000 to flee to neighbouring Bangladesh since last August.
The UN investigation said the civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi was effectively complicit in the military's crime by doing nothing.
Vatican official calls on Pope Francis to resign
More shocks have jolted the Roman Catholic church with a top Vatican official calling on Pope Francis to resign.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano accused Francis, along with current and past church officials, of knowing about, and covering up for years the sexual abuse of children under its pastoral care in the US.
The Pope has dismissed the accusations and said he will not comment on them.
Head of Daesh in Afghanistan reported killed
The head of Daesh in Afghanistan, Abu Saad Erhabi, was killed in a strike on the group on Saturday night, Afghan authorities said.
The raid by Afghan and US forces also killed ten other members of the terrorist group.
Daesh has not commented on Erhabi’s death which would be the fourth Daesh leader in Afghanistan to be killed since July 2017.
Florida shooting
A video game tournament in the US state of Florida turned bloody after a gamer shot dead two people before killing himself.
Police say the shooter was David Katz from Baltimore.
Eleven others were wounded.
It's unclear why he did it, but US media say the 24-year-old white male was losing at the tournament, which was being streamed live on Twitch at the time of the shooting spree.
John McCain loses battle to brain cancer
And finally,
US Senator John McCain lost his battle to brain cancer on Saturday.
The 81-year-old Republican was formerly a Navy pilot who spent time in a POW camp in Hanoi after he was shot down during the US war against Vietnam.
He was also an anomaly within his own party, defying the current administration, and making up his own mind about what was right and wrong.
