After years of teaching, Arianne Craig Jolla says parents, not just educators, need to teach their children. And as the nation celebrates Juneteenth on Monday, Craig Jolla says parents have a wonderful opportunity to educate their children on the history behind the day and the joy of freedom.
Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of the last enslaved blacks after the end of the Civil War. As the author of “Teach Your OWN Kid! Schools Can’t Do It Alone,” Craig Jolla says parents play an important educational role on Juneteenth.
Craig Jolla joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the history of Juneteenth and a new initiative that aims to end generational cycles of poverty.
As co-founder of the Louisiana based HYPE Academy Private School & Academic Resource Center and a longtime teacher, she says students lack basic financial knowledge.
"It is a cycle of poverty that will not be undone just in a classroom, but there has to be a tool that we bring online, a learning solution for those kids to undo some of the generational issues that we're seeing," she says.
Through an interactive app called Cash Academy, Craig Jolla says students will be able to learn how to "earn, invest, save, spend, and give."
"Just as we are fighting for education freedom in black and brown schools that serve black and brown kids, just as we, Hype Academy, is now moving into our project Cash Academy, and we're fighting for financial freedom for those same kids, it is important for them to know that historically that their ancestors ... fought for those fundamental freedoms to be able to go to school and to get the kind of assistance that many of our young people are the beneficiaries of," she says.

Daniel Huerta says it's not uncommon for fathers to tell him they're worried that they're “messing up” their kids.
Huerta, vice president of Parenting and Youth at Focus on the Family, says may of the fathers he works with have “fears around the gender issues [and] sexuality issues” in today's culture, and says dads “don't know where to start and how to counter the messages that are out there."
Fathers today are also having to navigate heightened levels of anxiety among kids and teens, says Huerta, a licensed clinical social worker.
“And then there are dads that have [a] tremendous amount of ... demands on their life, from work and from the home, with multiple kids and just a variety of things that are surrounding them, and they just find themselves tired, worn out, and distracted,” he says.
Fortunately, there are practical tools, such as asking simple questions, that Huerta says can help fathers connect with their children in a significant way.
With Father’s Day around the corner, Huerta joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to offer dads a practical road map for how they can move toward having stronger relationships with their children and navigate the parental challenges of the current culture.

Strong communities and families, well-paying jobs, and industrial power—those are three key foundations to America’s success, according to Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. America was at its best when it had all three, but “all of them have been undermined,” the Florida Republican says.
According to Rubio, after the Cold War, America's leaders thought all nations were moving toward democracy and being "consumers and investors in a global market." But things have not gone as anticipated, and the result has been “the deindustrialization of America, the Rust Belt, [and] the loss of good-paying jobs,” he says.
In his new book “Decades of Decadence: How Our Spoiled Elites Blew America's Inheritance of Liberty, Security, and Prosperity," Rubio explains a path forward to restoring America’s key foundations.
Rubio joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the moment in history in which America finds itself and how we can begin to decrease dependence on China.
