According to the Council on Foreign Relations, “the United States imports more from China than from any other country." The total volume of imports in 2022 from China into the U.S. amounted to more than $536 billion, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported.
The Group of Seven leaders in May issued a statement about "de-risking and diversifying" from China, while also acknowledging that they would not be "decoupling or turning inwards."
What does "de-risking" and "diversifying" look like?
"Well, I think the imbalance of trade is extremely concerning, particularly when we're talking about a regime that is now credibly accused of a genocide against the Uyghur people. It has totally broken an international treaty in regard to Hong Kong and dismantled completely the promised freedoms and autonomy for Hong Kong," says Benedict Rogers, co-founder and chief executive of Hong Kong Watch.
Hong Kong Watch is a "registered charity" based in the United Kingdom that "researches and monitors threats to Hong Kong’s basic freedoms, the rule of law and autonomy as promised under the ‘one country, two systems’ principle, which is enshrined in the Basic Law and the Sino-British Joint Declaration," according to its website.
"And it's committing other very serious atrocity crimes against other groups within China, but also it's complicit with atrocities in other regimes, particularly North Korea and Burma," Rogers says. "And of course, it's increasingly threatening Taiwan. And plus, it's a regime that hid and lied to the world over the virus, which became the COVID-19 global pandemic."
Rogers adds:
So, to have such a high dependency on that one country for imports I think is a very dangerous situation to be in. And I hope that the United States and other countries as well will diversify, and that means producing more at home, but also investing in other countries that are less risky.Rogers joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss the difference between "de-coupling" and "de-risking and diversifying"; how the U.S. can ethically trade with China; and his book, published late last year, "China Nexus: Thirty Years In and Around the Chinese Communist Party’s Tyranny."

A Christian group that sends Bibles to Eastern European countries has a report from the field: the war in Ukraine is a "spiritual war," and the Bible is bridging divides between groups that have hated one another for centuries.
On today's show, Dirk Smith, vice president of Eastern European Mission, explains how the gospel is being spread in Ukraine.

Bill Courtney made his mark in Memphis as the volunteer football coach of the Manassas Tigers and successful businessman. Now, he’s taking his message to a much larger audience with the launch of a new podcast called “An Army of Normal Folks.”
Courtney’s inspirational message to an underrated high school football team in North Memphis became the subject of Oscar-winner documentary called “Undefeated.” He followed that with a book called “Against the Grain: A Coach’s Wisdom on Character, Faith, Family, and Love.”
On today’s edition of “The Daily Signal Podcast,” Courtney explains why he decided to take action in his local community—and why he’s encouraging you to do the same. His new podcast features stories of normal people who are doing their part to change lives and our country.

The greatest tool for fighting antisemitism is the Bible, and Jew-hatred is on the rise in the U.S. because Americans are less and less familiar with the holy text, a Christian leader warns.
Antisemitism "is on the rise in general," Luke Moon, deputy director at The Philos Project and leader of Philos Action League, told The Daily Signal. Philos Action League mobilizes Christians to fight antisemitism.
Speaking with "The Daily Signal Podcast" late last month at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention, Moon said Jew-hatred is "on the rise because we as an American society are becoming less biblically literate, less connected to the Bible."

The Biden administration is using a Department of Homeland Security anti-terrorism grant program to target Americans with conservative and Christian beliefs. It's a shocking discovery that came to light in recent weeks thanks to the Media Research Center.
The Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program provided $352,000 to the PREVENTS-OH initiative at the University of Dayton. Included in the grant application was a chart, "The Pyramid of Far-Right Radicalization," which links well-known conservative organizations to neo-Nazis.
Dan Schneider, vice president of the Media Research Center's Free Speech America, MRC Business, and the external affairs division, joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to explain what his organization discovered.
"They held a conference even before grant funding was provided, where they specifically used this chart and additional charts to train people on how to subvert organizations like The Heritage Foundation," Schneider said. "And this sounds like such a conspiracy theory. It sounds crazy that this is happening, but it really is."
