I'm bad at both digital simplification and real life simplification, but digital is definitely more fun. What ways have you been able to simplify your life without too much effort?

      • The One Where I Turn 50

In the first episode of Dailyish for August 19th, 2026, I kick off my new project to record an episode every day during my 50th year.

It's a pretty big commitment. Much more daunting than last year’s selfie-a-day project. The internet feel different now. Authenticity and human connection in the age of AI is weird.

I invite listener feedback or questions via voice notes or on social media.

          • This Is My First Pandemic
Recorded early in the COVID-19 pandemic, just after finishing a mandatory 14-day quarantine. Chris reflects on the strangeness of everyone going through their "first pandemic" at once, the lingering anxiety of bringing groceries into the house even after quarantine ends, and how technology has kept the family connected — the kids playing Minecraft with cousins over Discord, his wife on Zoom calls, and his own work continuing as normal.
He mentions two other Good Stuff shows: The 25 Cent, an Apple Arcade podcast he co-hosts with Nick, and Crosstalk, a Patreon-exclusive discussion show with other Good Stuff hosts. He also recommends Jackbox Games' party game packs (Quiplash, Drawful) as a fun way to play with friends and family remotely during lockdown.
            Mentioned in this episode:
            - goodstuff.fm/25c - The 25 Cent (Apple Arcade podcast)
            - patreon.com/goodstuff and patreon.com/ichris - Patreon/Discord community

            • This Is Surreal
Recorded right after flying home to Canada from a family vacation in Mazatlan, Mexico, just as COVID-19 rules shifted from "recommended" to mandatory quarantine. Chris describes the disorienting last-minute scramble to get home before borders and flights shut down, and adjusting to 14 days of self-isolation with his wife (now also working from home) and their kids.
He points listeners to the Good Stuff Discord's "health talk" and "working for a living" channels for community discussion during the pandemic, and offers to personally help anyone who wants access to the community but can't afford the $5/month Patreon tier right now.

                • Never Dig Down #9
A bonus Minecraft episode of the "Never Dig Down" show, with co-host Tim Marta. They cover Iron Golems and how to use them for defense, walk through a detailed strategy for reaching the End game — finding Eyes of Ender, farming them from Endermen, locating a stronghold, and activating the End Portal — and answer a listener question about finding underwater Ocean Monuments. They also note Minecraft creator Notch's departure from Mojang and recommend two book resources for parents and new players: "The Visual Guide to Minecraft" (Peachpit Press) and Mojang's official illustrated Minecraft book series.

                  • New Podcast - Who Dis?
Chris returns after a long summer break and reflects on how hard it is to get back into a recording rhythm after time off. He shares an idea he's been developing for a membership community for people who create (or struggle to keep creating) podcasts — inspired by Justin Jackson's "Mega Maker" community for indie software makers — offering monthly hangouts, encouragement, and accountability rather than a big course launch. He also reflects on a day spent helping a friend with farm work, and how working alongside others toward a shared goal made him think about how much of his own work happens alone.

                    • Social Media Jealousy
An unscripted, stream-of-consciousness episode about how Instagram has shifted, for Chris, from a fun photo-sharing app into something that stirs up jealousy and comparison — especially when it's local friends and family posting rather than distant acquaintances. He talks candidly about wrestling with jealousy and bitterness, the social awkwardness of unfollowing people, and the then-upcoming iOS 12 Screen Time feature as a tool for building awareness of app usage. He also mentions capping his own daily time on the mobile game Clash Royale as a way of managing his own habits.
