The cavalry is arriving. Mykel Williams — the 49ers' first-round pick who has been on PUP since before the season started — is set to make his 2026 NFL debut Sunday night in Seattle, and the timing could not be more perfect or more important.

Through four weeks of the 2026 NFL season the San Francisco 49ers lead the league in explosive plays created on offense and explosive plays surrendered on defense — and nobody else is doing both at the same time at this level. That's not a coincidence. That's a formula. Kyle Shanahan's offense is built to attack vertically and horizontally simultaneously, forcing defenses to choose their poison on every single snap. And Raheem Morris's defense — shorthanded, banged up, and missing Nick Bosa for two of four games — has somehow been the stingiest unit in football when it comes to allowing the chunk plays that change games.

Somebody throw a flag on the flags. The 2026 NFL season has become unwatchable at times and the reason isn't the talent, isn't the coaching, and isn't the competition — it's the officiating. There have already been more TD's taken off the board though 4 weeks than all of last season. Something has to change.

Four and zero means something in the NFL. It always has. Since 2000, teams that start 4-0 make the playoffs at a rate north of 90 percent. More than half of them win their division. A significant chunk of them make deep postseason runs. And the ones with a top-five offense AND a top-ten defense at the time of going 4-0? They win Super Bowls at a rate that should make every 49ers fan feel genuinely electric about what is happening in Santa Clara right now.

Take and early lead and hold on during the "Dre Greenlaw Revenge Game". It won't be that simple, but Brock's heater, the solid offensive line play, and a team that's clicking should be able to handle their business. The Broncos aren't half the team that was in the AFC Title game last season.

Welcome to the most important month of Brock Purdy's football life.
October. Four games. A schedule that gets harder by the week. And a quarterback who has spent his entire NFL existence answering the same question — is he the guy, or is he a product of the system — about to get the loudest, clearest, most definitive answer this league has ever demanded from him.

The San Francisco 49ers are still 3-0 and still the NFC favorites — and Nick Bosa is still not on that football field. The Denver Broncos are coming to Levi's Stadium this Sunday and the most important defensive player on the roster is going to be watching from the sideline for the second straight week. And while this team has done a remarkable job of winning without him — Kyle Shanahan's offense covering for a defense that is operating well below its ceiling — the question that every honest 49ers fan has to start asking out loud is simple. How long can this go on?

With 13 players on IR, Nick Bosa's huge absense, key contributors dropping by the week — the San Francisco 49ers finally got some good news. Trent Williams, Mike Evans & Dre Greenlaw just received encouraging updates and the collective exhale from 49ers Nation right now is loud enough to hear from Santa Clara.

This is becoming the defining story of the 2026 San Francisco 49ers. They win. Someone goes down. They win again. Someone else goes down. Repeat. Three weeks in and this team is undefeated, NFC favorites, always hurt, and has Purdy playing OUT OF HIS MIND. They're all alone in first place in the NFC West. Also, someone else probably got hurt while I was tying this.
