The heavens declare the glory of God as made known in the gospel of Jesus the Messiah (Ps. 19:1-4; cf. Rom. 10:16-18). In the last session, we looked at some of the ways that the moon functions as a prophetic witness to the Messiah, and how God uses the rising of the sun to communicate the resurrection, the Day of the Lord, and the coming judgment on the wicked. In this session we turn our attention to two of the constellations that the Bible mentions specifically by name – the Pleiades and Orion. One of the most forgotten of God’s evangelistic strategies is the night sky. Many believers today feel nervous about contemplating the stars. Perhaps the biggest reason for this is that this realm of knowledge is typically associated in people’s minds with the New Age, the occult, and pagan mythologies. However, the Bible has a lot to say about the stars. When we examine the Scriptures closely, we see that pagan and New Age treatments of the stars are but corruptions and perversions of a message originally communicated by God to humanity concerning His plan of redemption. In this session, we turn our attention to God's plan to fulfill those promises in context to His dealings with Abraham's singular (the Messiah) and collective "seed" through different stages in history. Jesus, born under the stipulations of the of Mosaic Law (Gal. 3), fully obeyed the terms of the Mosaic Law in God's sight, and therefore inherited the eternal promises made to Abraham and his "seed." However, the question was: if the rest of the Jews had fallen short of obeying the Law, and if Gentiles were still trapped in sin apart from the Law, how then would other human beings besides the Messiah himself be able to inherit the promises? The answer is "in Christ." Through repentance and faith in the gospel, believers receive the Spirit and are thus "in Christ."
