Sylvia Likens was a happy, beautiful 16-year-old when her parents left her and her sister in the care of Gertrude Baniszewski while they went on the road for work. Within a few short months in Gertrude's care, Sylvia's treatment turned horrifyingly awful. She was beaten, humiliated, and ultimately left to die from neglect and abuse. When all was said and done, Gertrude was not the only one guilty of tormenting the teen; other neighborhood children would ultimately be indicted as well.

In today's minisode we wanted to shed light on hate crimes. We'll discuss two examples of bad dudes who are getting prosecuted for their racist actions. In one, a man in New York is arrested after a road rage incident directed at an off duty police officer (never a good idea). In the other a Wisconsin man faces sentencing after throwing acid in the face of a man at a bus stop. You'll be shaking your head in disbelief when you hear the details from these two articles.

It's Baltimore, 1999. Hae Min Lee, a popular high-school senior, disappeared sometime after school and before work one day. Six weeks after she disappeared, detectives arrested her classmate and ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, for her murder. Syed claimed his innocence, but damning testimony from a close friend quickly put him at the top of the suspects list.  A classmate at Woodlawn High School claims she knows that Adnan's whereabouts prove he couldn't have committed the crime, but others still claim he is responsible.  Who is telling truth and who has the answers to Hae Min's untimely death?  The case remains solved, yet unanswered questions cast doubt on the outcome of the investigation.
